Dunkan didn't know anything about Ashen at all, well when he used to be from the Armada he met someone from there but it was at to that, nothing else. Dunkan wanted to be on this tournament to see if he had things to improve still, if he should train more. As Ardyn peeled away to find his opponent, Cairo shifted and padded to a spot, and soon his deep sapphire eyes found a determined set if lighter blue eyes in a man, recognizing him for the opponent he was. He nodded a brief greeting, a smile flashing quickly over his features, good-natured as ever as he settled into his defenses. The man, Dunkan, came at him, and as the male drew near, Cairo pivoted sharply on his hind paws to his own right, taking a quick further sidestep to the right and letting Dunkan’s attacks fall short, the other man’s bite catching only hairs that pulled loose from Cairo’s left shoulder while the slam merely slid along his left shoulder instead of hitting its mark fully. Cairo, whipping his head to his left and snapping open jaws for the right side of Dunkan’s neck behind the cheek, seeking a grip, shifted his weight and sought to snap his left forepaw up and bring it down in a swift stomp for Dunkan’s toes, aiming to bruise them, but not break them. His bi-chocolate tail flicked level with his spine, a rudder for balance as his hackles, already fluffed out, stood in a bristling line from head to tail, ears pinned flat to his neck in the fur. He had a few inches on the other man, and they were evenly matched for size, so it’d be interesting to see how this fight turned out. He hasn't fought in a while now, as since he joined the Hallows he hasn't had much of an opportunity to fight. Swiftly he made to tighten his grip, weight shifting into his hind end and his tail sweeping low for added balance, toes spreading, as his forelegs both snapped up, almost immediately after his paw had struck, and just ahead of Dunkan’s retaliatory stomp, though the younger man’s toes did just brush the side of one of Cai’s front paws without doing much damage beyond ruffled fur. He sought to shake his head lightly, aiming to rattle Dunkan’s balance as his forelegs sought to wrap the man in a bearhug, left foreleg seeking to drape over Dunkan’s back at the shoulders and his right seeking to wrap around the man’s chest as he sought to slam forward and drive his chest into Dunkan’s right shoulder and stagger the man. As he fought, a small, private part of his mind found itself thinking about how much Nolan would have loved this.
