Have We Lost Ourselves

Viper was nearly a feather to the behemoth Chimera. She just made it easier for him to throw her around ontop of him or under him. She didn't struggle, she had trusted him with her life even through jaws that could kill her so easily and instantly. Though she may have never really understood how good she had it with Chimera. At least compared to the slaves maybe. She had shown through actions that maybe it wasn't enough for her. Sharing his den, his bed, sharing some kind of genuine connection with him. She had felt like she was missing all of this throughout her life, this weird, strange, but somehow love that he showed her. Right now in this moment. It was enough for her to stay loyal to him, to want to be with him. But of course she didn't know any different than what he gave her.

She too clung to him gently when he pulled her into a tight hold. She didn't want to leave, even here in the springs instead of home. The privacy they still had here was soothing, even if privacy wasn't on her list of wants. It felt different under the trees, under the stars, a different kind of nightly noise instead of the den and the dogs. She couldn't deny the easy rest even with the slight stinging she felt under her. She would heal in time, it always got better, she always got better. All she needed was her and Chimera like this.
