The rain had just started where one could spot where the occasional drop landed by how it slightly darkened the surface it landed on.  Misery ignored it and continued a lazy patrol of the border.  His mind had been roaming and so his thoughts really got more attention than the weather.  The rain picked up enough to a more steady yet light pace to it.

Misery was bored but wasn’t thinking up anything that really seemed entertaining in his mind.  He could spar which was good for sharpening his skills but honestly he wasn’t one of the brutes that could think of nothing better to do than fight all day long.  He could continue patrolling or go playing friendly with others but none of it sounded exciting at the moment.

The young wolf was tired of being a pup in training , finding the constraints of youth overly tight.  Looking past the pack border he looked out at the wide world past their home.  There was an entire world out there, and so many wolves he had never met.  Misery liked figuring out how others thought but it grew boring to always focus on the same wolves day in and day out.

Misery belonged to a pack that had its own spy ring and he wanted to be the best of them.  He could hardly spy on anything useful while here.  He was going to be a year old soon and felt more mature every day in his mind.  Of course, to be fair, he had felt he was old enough since the time the notion came to him when he was still falling into snow piles as a smaller pup.

The distant sky turned brighter for a short moment as lightning dancing along the clouds, a few heartbeats later came the thunder.  It wasn’t on top of them but it was nearby.  Misery gave the weather a moment of attention now then turned to head back towards the den at a leisurely pace.  The storm wasn’t coming towards them so much as passing by a bit to the west.  As far as he could tell the worst they would get was some wind and wet coats.  The young wolf had spent enough time playing in the snow when he was younger to be perfectly fine with a wet coat, and now it had all the nice guardhairs to keep the rain from soaking through the fur.

The rain picked up its intensity as he neared the den.  Sure, the dangerous part of the storm might not be hitting them but there was a point at which even he chose to get out of the rain.   Would mom be in the den with all the crazy rain?  Izzy wanted to talk with her about when he could start actually being a great spy.  If need be he’d call for her but this did seem like a good day to be near some place dry.  Misery grinned as he imagined that meant Wendigo was finding someway to get even more drenched than he was.  Maybe instead he’d try to stay dry by jumping into the lava pit.  Somehow if anyone could survive it, that’d be Wendigo. The thought gave Misery a soft chuckle as he stepped inside.

The rain had indeed driven the albino woman into her den, though she did not expect any of her children to join her, they were quickly growing and sooner rather than later it would be time for them to find and choose their own dens. Wendigo, in particular, she expected to be romping around in the rain and mud, Carnage was the one she expected to see first, though none of her children were weak she was the most preoccupied with her outward appearance, though Kali was also rather self-interested in her own way. It was almost amusing to the pale woman that neither of her sons seemed all that interested in their potential of heirs, maybe it was the fact that she herself was a solo alpha and their only present parent that had motivated her daughters rather than sons but she would support them all regardless of what they wanted, she wanted for them to care about their futures and as long as they were thinking it through she could be happy with most things.

Recluse looked up as she heard small paws approaching the den. "Don't track any mud in." She said, smiling up at her son. "Didn't expect you to be back so soon." She gestured for Misery to join her on the pile of furs she was lounging on. "Was the rain so bad?"

Mom was in the den, excellent.  At her first words though Misery paused on moving further in, dipping his paws in a puddle just enough to help wash off mud that had been there.  He made sure each paw was clean and even gave a good shake off of rain droplets while still outside before coming in.

Misery made his way over to sit on the furs near his mom, “Not that bad, think the bad part isn’t gonna hit us.  I’m surprised Caranage and Kali aren’t in her making sure each fur is in place,” said with a small smirk at his sisters need to look so perfect.  Sure was a good thing he had someone with better priorities like Wendigo in his litter.

“Anyway, I figured it was a good time to talk.”   Misery sure hoped she decided to see him as mature as he felt he was.  He was better than the others, did she know that?  Of course, Kali and Carnage probably thought they were each the best also.  Stupid Kali was the worse but, this wasn’t the time for it. “So, I intend to be Maarifa Tarshishim in the future.”

Misery had no concern for the final result that he would ‘try’ to be, he would make it happen. “So, I’d like the status of Maarifa Hashmallim and I want to go and spy on a pack or band or something now to get experience.” The best part of his age was using youth to appear harmless or naïve but now he was aiming for as mature as he could.  His chest was out and those shoulders rolled back.  Surely mom would see he could do this.

The only reason Misery didn’t care about leadership was he’d rather be out spying on others, a task he surely couldn’t do, and lead the pack.  The black and silver pup would just make sure he helped Carnage get the leader role in the future.  She would be the best for letting Misery do as he pleased.  Kali would probably try to make his life a real pain with rules and crap.
