And It's The Stars That Shine For You

A snowstorm had passed through the night before leaving several inches of fluffy white snow upon the ground. Stjarna was out scouting, and surveying prey movements within Ashen's territory. Now ranked the Renja of Ashen, Stjarna knew it was important to train the younger hunters in various methods of hunting and as they scouted they found several hare tracks and areas of brush that would make an excellent location to set up snares. Star worked farther in toward the heart of the shrine territory and let out a call for any who were interested to come learn and help with setting snares. Snowshoe hare were a delicacy on cold winter nights and Star was eager to get a few caught. Passive traps paired with active hunting would work well to keep the pack full and satisfied all winter long.

Takeshi had been out doing his rounds when Stjarna’s call had rang out into the air. He’d paused in his strides, auds angling to try and decipher the direction it had come from before he turned his direction toward the Shrine. He took off at a light jog, not rushing but not taking his time either. The snares would still need to be made when he got there, a tool that was ever in use especially in the dead of winter when it was harder to come directly across them. He and his mother had made a session of crafting them, so he wasn’t a stranger to making the tool, but he could always use practice.

It wasn’t long before he arrived at the Shrine, coming across the monochrome frame of the wolf. He offered them a woof of greeting, settling down not too far away and gathering the supplies laid out in front of him to begin making them, his paws tending to the rope to begin the delicate loops that would eventually snap onto the neck or limb of their prey, rendering it immobile for their hungry stomachs.

And It's The Stars That Shine For You

Star didn't have to wait long before one of the young princes answered their call. The yearling was swift to begin creating the loops for their snares and the older wolf chuckled. "Eager to get started aren't we? Thank you, Takeshi, for joining me. Once we have our loops made we will pick out our locations. I found a few potential rabbit runs that should work for our purposes." Location was everything with a snare. It didn't matter how well or expertly it was crafted, if it wasn't in a good location it was essentially useless.

Star took about 2 feet of the the cord and then used their teeth to sever the rope. They made a small loop on one side and the pulled one strand through the little loop to make a larger loop a bit bigger than their paw. It wasn't easy for Star to do but the results would be worth it. Once the rope was ready they looked over to see how the yearling was doing. Next step would be to find a place to set up the snare. And then they would need to disguise it. Rabbits could be quite clever and Star had been out-witted a number of times.
