Location: Alias Island
The explorations of the islands were something a little more adventurous, though there were plenty of other lands in Boreas that were beautiful and unique. She walked alongside Segin through the low tide sand bridge to the island they were off to scout out. It reminded her of the Bifrost, but she wouldn't know what would be on the other side. The cold waters gently pushed up the small sand bar, but the bridge was wide enough for the both of them to cross together without being splashed or falling off course into the freezing tide. She wondered if this island would be like the last they explored, or maybe it would be completely different because of the winter. The last winter was very brutal, and Duchess wasn't quite used to it while living in Auster her whole life. But she learned to adjust to the lifestyle of travelling and through different climates.

Segin's curious silver gaze roamed over the landscape around them as they walked across the land bridge that connected the mainland of Boreas to the island they were scouting. At least this time they wouldn't have to swim in the cold ocean water to get to their destination. It made him wonder if maybe there was a better way to get from shore to shore than swimming, but he wasn't even sure how to go about doing that. For now he'd just be grateful for things like this sandy bridge that they could cross while it was low tide. They were further north than they usually were so the temperatures were colder than he would have liked, but he didn't mind enduring it for a quick trip or a visit. He couldn't understand wolves that preferred it up here though or chose to live in the north of their own free will. He would much rather be back in the tropical temperatures of Auster. "This one looks much more mountainous," he mentioned as they reached the island's shore, scanning up and down the beach around them.

As they made it to the beach, Duchess nodded at Segin's comment about the island looking mountainous. Her gaze moved upwards to the towering mountains, the island looked huge from this side and she was sure there was too much for them to explore the entire island. Maybe if they made it up one of the small inclines just to get a better look of what the island harbored.
She moved forward, just trying to find a less steep hill to move up, and when she did she carefully started to trek the side of the mountain. She wasn't going to do a whole rock climbing adventure, but she hopped just looking on the other side of this hill would reveal more. And she was not wrong. As they made it over the side of one of the more hill than mountain mounds, she could spot a lake down in the center of the island. Birds who looked tiny from here flew around the lake and resided in the sparse trees. This seemed like a pretty okay island to visit, but she still preferred their last stop at Ibis islands since it seemed much colder here or at least at this time.

Segin followed beside Duchess as they climbed one of the rocky hills, keeping his eyes peeled for any predators that might make this island home. He hadn't scented any so far, but he knew bears and mountain lions and the like enjoyed making caves their home and he had spotted several in the side of these mountains already just in their short time on the island. As they reached the crest of the hill he paused next to Duchess and looked down into the valley, also spotting the lake that made up the center of the island.
The hardy pine trees had a surprising number of birds roosting in and around them. Even though it was much colder here than some of the other islands and places they had visited so far it was surprisingly full of life from what he could tell. He wondered if the lake was any good for fishing. If it was it would be pretty easy to live here. The land bridge meant you wouldn't even need to swim to get to it even if you had to wait occasionally for the tide to pass. A clatter of pebbles rolling down the mountainside near by pulled his gaze up and he saw a cluster of mountain goats perched along the steep mountain side and he chuckled softly. "Dinner might be a bit harder to get ahold of around here," he commented, looking back toward the lake. "Do you want to go take a closer look or do you want to start heading back?"

Duchess hummed at Segin's comment, watching the goats as they noticed their own predator's locations. Her eyes wandered down to the lake again as she caught movement, noticing a couple wolves passing by, possibly about to go out on a hunt for the goats. She looked back to Segin as he had suggested, "No, I think we've seen enough to report." Her eyes looked back down at the wolves that disappeared into the trees below them. She didn't want to be a nuisance and scare off the prey for any residents of the island. Looking back to the bridge, it was still uncovered by the tide though she hadn't expected it to close up at all. "I'm ready to head back."
