Modesty had never bothered to learn much about plants, that had always been Pont’s area of interest, but now she kinda wished she’s paid more attention. It wasn’t that she had a problem with the blue tinged fireflies, they seemed alright, and happy to just bob around her, mockingly, like Oh look even the plants and rocks are glowing, everyone and everything is glowing except you. Had she poorer emotional control she might just scream.
Still, it was a bit of pain not having any chance to get away from them. If she happened to find somewhere they fireflies weren’t, well then, there were crystals, or mushrooms. There was just no getting away from it. Maybe if she prayed really hard, Archon would give her the answers?
Gathering up the supplies for a dream was tricky enough when the sun was shining but now? Well she was kinda guessing at what she was gathering and just hoping it wasn’t going to get her killed. She tried to mimic her mother’s ceremony, just so before drinking the concoction and laying down to rest her head on her paws. She felt the familiar sensation of drifting, and the next time she opened her eyes she exhaled with relief. It was just like it had been last time, or, well, almost. “Hello?” She called out tentatively, but this time no ghostly apparition came forward. “Is anybody here?” Her voice seemed to echo eerily, as if this place had been abandoned…
Perhaps the strange shapes moving in the mist were ghosts after all? Maybe they weren’t here because they were there?
Well that meant she wouldn’t be getting any answers. She tied to step sideways out of the dream, but her body was sluggish to respond, and though the dream shimmered around her, she remained. It wasn’t supposed to be like this… She tried again and felt the tug of her body, but she snapped back to the vacant dream like a rubber band. As her heart rate increased and she looked around, really taking in her surroundings, she realised there were faintly glowing blobs amongst the mist and if she focused… there were mushrooms and crystals here too…
She started to breathe heavily, stepping back, it wasn’t supposed to be like this! She’d only come here looking for advice! Tears stung the corner of her eyes as she flopped to the ground… and seemed to fall straight through it and back into her body.
Modesty awoke with a gasp, mind reeling over the emptiness of her dream. If Archon wasn’t there… what did that mean?
She could feel her faith beginning to tremble.
