Kotori and Grimshaw had found the deer’s trail and tracked out here to the willows.  The young stag was drinking at a pool of water.  It looked up occasionally with a cocky gaze as if nothing could scare it.  Kotori glanced at Grimshaw for a moment, a soft whisper just for him, “I’ll get around to the other side.  Once I’m ready I’ll nod for you to start.”

Kotori assumed Grimshaw would agree with it, a pretty basic plan.  Kotori slid through the willows and all the various hiding spots it offered.  The boy’s eyes flicked between the best path to take and watching their food.  He was already enjoying the idea of the upcoming hunt.  With each successful hunt his confidence grew.  Kotori settled into his position once reached and looked to Grim, nodding quietly that he was ready to begin when the other wolf started.

Grim nodded in agreement with Kotori when he mentioned the plan. After stalking the young stag through the willows, Grimshaw was ready to get this over with and bring this animal down. If they were quick about it and this deer didn't pose much of a challenge, then perhaps they'd be lucky enough to go out again and bring something else back to the stores. Grimshaw was on a bit of a hunting frenzy lately, so he was a bit surprised to find some room left in the stores for more meat. This deer wouldn't fill it all either, so he could only hope there would be another chance for them today. Or even if Kotori didn't want to continue, Grimshaw certainly wouldn't stop.

He waited for Kotori to nod and was quick to set off when the signal was set, coming out from the shrubs behind the deer and barking at it to gain it's attention. What fun was sneaking up on an unsuspecting victim anyway? He wanted the animal to know it was being hunted, otherwise where was the fun for them? The deer panicked at his bark and was quick to hurry downstream, following the waters edge unknowingly in the direction of another danger.

"Speech."

Kotori and Grimshaw certainly weren’t thinking the same way.  Though, a few months ago Kotori probably would have thought the same.  While he was roaming alone a lot it was more about the fun but now it was about the work.  Funny how a small shift in focus could change everything else.  The horned wolf scowled as the deer fled earlier than necessary.  Grim was making this take longer than necessary.

Kotori gave chase after the buck.  It wasn’t that it should be a hard kill it was just a lack of desire for pointless effort.  Kotori got up alongside the deer, slightly behind it and to one side.  Jaws clamped down on the back leg.  It wasn’t enough to bring it down, the deer was able to free itself but the wound was there.  So long as Grimshaw did his job the deer was dead and still plenty of the day ahead.

"Kotori Fatalis"

His plan had worked, steering the deer off towards Kotori in the hopes that he would drag it down or slow it enough for them both to bring down. He tailed after the deer, watching as Kotori grabbed onto his hind leg enough to leave a wound, but not enough to bring the animal down. It didn't matter, as now the animal was hobbling and howling from the pain. Grimshaw's pace quickened from a lope to a sprint in order to match pace with the massive animal as it slowed. He kept this pace for sometime before jumping up and reaching to grab the animal by the neck. His newly sharpened teeth had barely made purchase, but his weight was enough to teeter the animal over and it quickly would lose balance. Grimshaw struggled to let go in time and fell briefly, but scrambled to avoid the weight of the toppling cervid.

Narrowly escaping being squished, Grimshaw lunged one last time for the animals throat and as the animal crashed into the ground, it's throat ripped out in Grimshaw's jaws from the weight. Spitting the blood and flesh from his mouth, Grimshaw stepped back from the animal and looked over to Kotori. At least they weren't far from the Armada, this one wouldn't take long to ready and deliver.
