Eligos had made his way back to the battlefield again - it seemed he practically lived there these days, estranged from his pack as he was, but it was doing him a lot of good after the long nights of madness. Working his body tired him enough that he had to sleep, though sometimes he would dream dreams he couldn't escape, dreams that he was carrying his niece's body home, dreams of her blood in his mouth. Almost worse though were the dreams of waking up in a puppy pile with his brothers and sisters, his parents curled around them. Warm, fed, content. He missed his home and his family with a vicious longing. Sometimes, the fights would exhaust him to the point that he didn't dream. Those were the good nights.

He could already tell that tonight wasn't going to be a good night, not if he tried to sleep now with energy still sparking around in him like a livewire in his mind. So he'd come here, and now lifted his muzzle and called out for an opponent.

I'm Tired of Looking for Answers

Birna returned to the battlefield to test herself once more. After encountering all manner of predators and seeing the skill of the wolves here she knew there was more to glean from their battle arts. She stalked through the grassland, pausing as she heard a call for an opponent.

Birna padded softly toward the source of the call to see a massive horned male. He was a good deal taller than her but that would not dissuade her. She dipped her head lightly in greeting. "I too seek a spar. Will I do as an opponent?" She had yet to be turned down but one could never be sure, especially as she was a leopard and not a wolf.


Speech

He was surprised to see that his would-be opponent was not a wolf - not, in fact, canine at all, but rather a starkly colored feline of some kind. However, he only hesitated a moment before bowing his head to the cat. "Of course," he acquiesced, "I would be glad for the opportunity." It was novel - he'd fought other predators before in earnest, but not for some time. And never in a spar. It would stretch his skills in ways that weren't entirely familiar, and would be more physically and mentally taxing. More likely for him to be too tired to dream.

Squaring up to the cat he gave her a moment to prepare herself, out of politeness, before he leaped towards the shorter opponent, fangs flashing as he aimed a bite for the back of her neck to seek to bear her down to the ground.

I'm Tired of Looking for Answers

Birna set her defenses as the wolf agreed to spar her. Her ears pinned, fur standing on end as her shoulders rolled foward and her neck scrunching back. Her limbs coiled elegantly beneath her but her tail remained free. She had learned that wolves often tucked theirs but she needed hers for balance and considering it was just as long if not longer than her she couldn't tuck it anyway without tripping herself up.

The wolf charged and she leapt forward but slightly to her left, seeking to get at his right side. His fangs grazed the back of her neck as she leapt. Her claws lanced out seeking to strike his right thigh. She was eager to see how wolves of such a massive size moved. How nimble were they? This male towered over any of the wolves she'd ever seen in her homeland.

His teeth caught slightly on the cat's neck and she moved almost impossibly fast to claw at his leg. Eligos was nimble for his size, yet as he twisted away from the attack he barely moved quickly enough to avoid the worst of it. The tips of the cat's claws opened a series of shallow lacerations along his thigh. He was going to tire quickly moving this fast to try to keep up with the cat's natural lightning-fast movements, and the stiffness and bloodloss of being wounded would very soon slow him. The strength of a wolf lay mostly in stamina, so he would have to outlast her, but he probably wasn't going to be able to do that here without getting himself diced to pieces. He needed to even the playing field a bit. Even as the claws scored his thigh, Eligos lunged in an attempt to crush the offending paw between his fangs and take it out of commission, as he did seeking to slam his lowered shoulder into the smaller predator in the hopes of sending her rolling.

Birna grinned as her claws drew blood. For his size the wolf was faster than she'd expected though she still had him on speed, at least for now. If she wanted to win she'd need to make this a quick fight and resist the urge to test and poke at the larger creature. The wolf twisted around jaws lunging for her lifted limb. His jaws seized over her paw and she hissed in pain, willing the elctrocytes in her paw to give the wolf an unsuspecting shock to his tongue. She shifted her weight to her hind legs to lift herself, seeking to rake the claws of her other paw down the side of his neck even as his shoulder struck her chest.

Eligos felt a startling snap of shock to his tongue before he collided with the cat, and a scrape of claws, but he didn't flinch at the pain and pushed through, ending the fight in his favor. He stood a moment, eyeing the cat appreciatively. "An intriguing trick, the electricity," he mused aloud. "You are blessed to have such an advantage. I am glad I encountered it for the first time with you, and not in a more earnest fight. Thank you for this spar." He was tired enough to likely be able to sleep now, his mind mulling over this strange new mutation rather than circling the problems of his life over and over, so it might even be a restful sleep this time.
