This early in the fall, it was still surprisingly warm, making it pleasant to move along the river and feel the water spray on his dark fur. He had no fear of moving so close to the border with Fireside, though he wasn't particularly looking to run into any of them. He'd always had fair relations with the pack, and thought that the fosterlings carefully tucked away in Aerie's lands would likely ensure those relations didn't fail the test of time. He just wasn't particularly in the mood today to be assaulted with the overly boisterous nature some of the members exhibited, so he kept quiet as he skirted the territory. Most of the more... Sparrow-like members had probably gone off to join Sparrow's pack, but better safe than sorry.
No sooner had the words been thought than a stone turned beneath Eligos' paw and dropped into the river along with a good portion of the bank, and only his own natural agility and wrenching himself backwards stopped him from following it.
For a long moment he just lay there, staring grumpily at the sky. The way his back and leg felt, he knew that as soon as he moved there would be torn muscles knotting up and screaming in pain. At least if he just laid here he could enjoy a few more moments of relative pain free existence. Well, it didn't seem he would be making his rendezvous with Kida and Cypher for a while...

The pale healer's days had been... long, lately. She'd flipped her sleep schedule so she could stay up long into the night, keeping an eye on Sirius as he slept. The deerskin curtain hanging in front of her den wasn't the best at keeping the sunshine out, but that was alright. At least she'd been sleeping a bit better than usual, being so busy and all. The checkups had paused as well, leaving her time to recoup her supplies in the few hours of daylight she saved for herself.
She'd really only just woken up as she moved down the banks of the Rio Grande, Mr. Raccoon wandering at her side. The two had a companionable silence about them, granted talking to him was better than talking to herself. He didn't talk back, but that was okay. She didn't expect him to, and really, a talking raccoon would have been more startling than anything. No, today they were just looking for more horsetail to dry before winter.
At least, that's what they were looking for until she heard the splash of something falling into the river. What a strange sound, like a chunk of bank falling on in. The tenderhearted creature's head jerked up, brow furrowing. "H...hello?" A soft voice into the afternoon, parting the tall plants along the base to peer through. She saw the crumpled body of a man staring up at the sky above, and her head quirked to the side as she peered on at him. "Sorry... sorry to interrupt you, I just heard um... I was worried that someone had fallen into the river," a step back... was he cloud watching? Had she interrupted him? Oh no. Not again, going on interrupting everyone in their day-to-day.

He hadn't lay there overly long, contplating the vagaries of fate that had led him to this miserable, irritating moment in time, when the moment got worse with the addition of a soft voice and the scent of the Armada. The sound of the voice had him almost twisting around to see, but he stopped himself before he had done more than twitch, and even that sent a ripple of pain through his injured muscles. "Not fallen into the river," he said through jaws clenched around the pain, "but nearly." He made himself stay immobile, though the idea of a strange wolf prowling around him unseen made his hackles attempt to rise against the ground.

The pinched tone, coupled with the way he moved (and then didn't move), drove concern across the tenderhearted creature's face. With careful steps, Halo cut through the reeds around the banks of the river. The water that stretched between them was shallow, something Halo could cross easily even with her small size. No fear of the water, no fear of the stranger, but any hesitation that managed to peek through the healer's gaze would come purely from social anxiety. This was the man that had caused the splashing sound, though he hadn't fallen in.
"Are you alright?" Her tone is gentle, words soft, eyes visibly wide as she peers carefully at him. "I'm a healer, I'd be happy to take a look if you'd like," Halo does her best to prevent any wayward trembling in her voice. Strangers... she's not so good at strangers. Still, the tenderhearted creature wouldn't cross to his side of the river unless told it was alright. That's the thing about wounded animals-- you never know how they'll react. Concerned as she is, Halo doesn't want to get her ass kicked for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
