Mist over the Plains
Aurielle
Drachen had been away from Valhalla since spring, off on a mission for the Spirit to travel Boreas and gather information on how the sickness affected the other packs and animals. At the time, the Mist was reluctant on leaving the pack lands so soon after the plague had finally past and their ranks were weak but he could not deny how valuable that information would be. So once his shoulder was healed enough for travel, the black and tan male set off and wandered around the mainland and soaked up all the information he thought was important. Now it was fall and his breath clouded the air in front of him as he paused for a moment Valhalla's borders, the air was nippy but not as threatening as it had been in the past. Silently the man sent out a prayer for a mild winter to whatever god or deity that might be listening. Then after a heartbeat, Drachen stepped back into the lands of his home and lifted his head and howled for the Spirit to alert her of his arrival as he walked deeper into the plains. He was sure if she wanted his information right away she would no doubt find him as he made his way towards the center of the plains and with Enzi circling high above him it would be easy to locate the male. As he walked, his blue eyes scanned over the plains and he sighed a breath of relief, glad to finally be back in the place he called home.

He’d just finished the stretching of a hide on a frame when the call came, and his ears perked, a smile touching his features. Drachen had been off on a mission, examining how the Long Night had affected the other packs since Spring once he was healed and well enough to travel.
The call was technically for his mother, but he’d been part of that briefing and rose, scanning the plains and the sky as Lyr croaked and indicated the hawk-shape that was Enzi. Aurielle and Red were out enjoying their time together, anyway.
Ardyn trotted easily toward the Mist, tail swaying in greeting as he came into sight. “Good to see you, Drachen. Safe travels?”
He studied the tan and black male closely, with much of his mother’s intensity and care as he added, “Mother stepped down while you were away as she informed you she might, so… I’m High King now. Still getting used to it.”
The admission came with a soft, rich chuckle as he turned with a nod toward the hillock.

Ardyn at first glance is as black as can be imagined with a raven sheen.
Closer inspection proves that he shimmers in fire tones in every hair on his hide right down to his lashes.
More obviously, he glows like a bed of coals and flames with every movement and brush of fur. His tail is usually wagging, so blazes like a torch.
His adult teeth are in and his saber canines have grown to their full length (see profile). His mane and tail hair have grown to full length, as well as being lightweight and easily buffeted by breezes.
A look at his front paws will give the impression of hands, with his dew claw dropped low and lengthened into a functioning thumb, and his toes elongated into fingers. He has retractable, solid black cat-like claws on every paw.
Ardyn has developed a glowing mast of intricate markings in fire and ice colors over his face, symmetrical over the last seasons of Year 17 (see profile for details). During hunts or raids/sieges, he will smudge them out with black soot to cover the glow, otherwise, they are bright enough to note at first direct glance at his face. Not all his artwork currently portrays the mask markings.
He is also often bedecked in beads, small bells, feathers in blues, ribbons and braids thanks to the Ooze Event of Halloween 2021, and the Coathanger item that he got. The accessories generally are seen most in his mane and tail hair. He removes the brighter items and bells for hunts or battle.
