How May I Be Of Service

The last few weeks he'd spent recovering and getting his strength back up so that he may be of use again. He didn't deserve to be saved by those men, but he was grateful nonetheless and sought to repay them for their effort. With his burned skin mostly healed and fresh fur covering his once raw spots, Lucian wanted to get out of the bungalow he'd been staying in and get some fresh air. During the early hours of the morning while the sun was still rising over the horizon Lucian left quietly and anxiously crept around the outside of the hut. The fresh spring air was nice but he couldn't help but feel like he wasn't allowed to leave the bungalow. Pale, frightened eyes scanned around before each step until his attention had been drawn to some flowers that were close, but just far enough to question it.
It wasn't much, but gifting Erystotle flowers for taking care of him was at least a good place to start. He suspected the man would like a gift, even if it wasn't particularly useful of him. Without much strength, perhaps making a flower chain would be a good place to start getting back into the routine of things. At least until someone else gave him a more useful task. He could only hope that he wouldn't be punished for doing something useless when he could've done something useful instead with what little strength he had.
Eventually he approached the patch of small flowers and got a closer look at them, wondering if it was a smart or a stupid idea still. Glancing back towards the safety of the bungalow, he felt tempted to run back and hide.
"Speech."

"You're feeling better, I see." Chimera had been cutting through the island to make his way back to the resort when he noted the pale form of the bound man timidly making his way towards a patch of flowers. If he was well enough to venture out on his own, then he was well enough to tell Chimera his story. It was about time.
Coming up behind the small, pale wolf, the hulking King of Fenmyre seated himself. "My wolves have been tending to your wounds. You were left in poor condition," as though he didn't know what condition he'd been left in. "I need to know who left you there and why. If you believe someone is coming to collect you, I'll need to decide what to do with you." He wouldn't risk bringing danger down on his pack unless the small man gave him a damn good reason to. Reila had been of sound mind and he had seen her potential. Chimera couldn't see much in this small, timid man. Not yet.

The sudden voice startled the small man and he cowered immediately, turning to face the black and white man though averting his own gaze to the ground all while retaining his submissive posture. Well taught to not speak unless spoken to and only when an answered is required, Lucian hesitated before answering the larger man. He didn't want to speak out of turn, or worse, interrupt him. So he waited until what felt like two seconds beyond a natural time to answer everything that had been spoken to him.
"Yes, Sir. Much better." He replied with a singular nod, moving on then to what the man really wanted to know. Why he had been left there, what he had done, or if anyone was looking for him. All valid concerns, but Lucian couldn't help but fear the worst. Would they return him to where they had found him? He certainly didn't deserve to be rescued, at least in his mind, but he didn't want to walk back into certain death either.
"No one is looking for me, Sir. I failed too many times." Perhaps admitting the entire truth wasn't a good idea, but who was he to decide his fate?

The small man cowered, but it didn't phase Chimera. He was used to small wolves feeling fear around him. Especially small slaves. It was obvious that this little man had been used and abused almost beyond repair, so the cowering made sense. After hesitating, the little wolf claimed to be much better than he'd been previously. That much was obvious to the Fenmyrian king.
After being questioned again, the little wolf claimed that no one would be looking for him and that he'd failed too many times. A bad slave, it seemed. A low rumble reverberated through Chimera's wide chest as he contemplated the words of the small man. "You don't look as though you'd be able to make it in the wild on your own," he openly observed, mismatched eyes narrowing as he stared at the pale brute. The man was in poor condition, yes, but he was also very small and looked rather frail. Unlike some of the wolves that he'd saved, this brute had yet to rouse any emotion in Chimera. Perhaps it was too soon to judge, however.
So what did he do with him? It was obvious that the man knew servitude all too well. The gears in Chimera's mind turned, thinking up a game plan for the man. "You're welcome to stay here in Fenmyre," he offered, "But there will be expectations. You'll report directly to Erystotle, the man that saved your life. You'll be expected to grow strong once more so that you can contribute to the pack. Do you understand?" Mismatched ears shifted forward, waiting for a reply. "Or, if you'd rather brave the world on your own, one of my wolves will see you to the mainland. The choice is yours." From the look of the little brute, Chimera doubted that he'd ever been given a choice for anything.

He couldn't bring himself to look up at the two-toned man and instead his blurry gaze found his paws and glued to them. He feared the worst with his admittance of his past and that no one would be looking for him. Honestly, if they found him, they'd only do it again if not worse. At least on this island he was free from that, though the likeliness of a life being any better here still felt too far out of reach.
The man had a point about his lack of ability to make it on his own. Lucian had little to no knowledge about caring for himself in that sense. Sure he could retrieve food from the stores, but actually hunting it was a luxury that he was never given. Not to mention he wasn't exactly built for it, but that was hardly mattered. There was a pause that seemed to last forever before Chimera spoke again and he listened intently. Although he heard that he was given a choice, he knew better than to take the option that granted actual freedom. It was a trick question; in repayment for saving his life, he must now live out the remainder of it serving them. He was grateful for them but he still couldn't help but be scared. It was all he knew how to do next to serving and a few other less favorable tasks.
"I owe my life to you two. It's yours." His voice was still weak, almost smaller than he was, but for once he knew the right answer to a trick question, or what he thought was one anyway.

The small man drew in upon himself and proclaimed that his life belonged to Chimera and Erystotle. "No," he spoke clearly, "It doesn't." The man's life was entirely his own. He didn't belong to anyone, but he would he treated like one who wasn't able to care for himself. "You'll learn to care for your own life and take accountability for your actions or lack of actions. We'll teach you to be a wolf." Seeing this small, somewhat lifeless brute... Chimera knew that turning him into a wolf would be a hard task.
"As I've already stated, you'll be reporting directly to Erystotle, understand?" The giant brute then motioned to the cabana's behind them. "You can continue staying here or you can choose another place on the island to live." He was a rather generous alpha. "Report to Erystotle every morning and help him with his work. Build your strength." Chimera noted how dingy and dull the man's coat was looking already. "I expect you to stay clean and well fed as well." Maybe if it sounded like an order, the man would be more open to caring for himself.

Everything that Chimera said to him was absorbed and clung to as if they were actual orders. He'd never been given a decision for his own life before, so choosing to live in the bungalow he was given or finding a new place was a no-brainer, he'd easily stay where he was put. He nodded along with everything the man said, listening intently and memorizing his words.
"Yes, Sir. Thank you, Sir." He nodded a final time, thankful to at least have some expectations and direction. He knew at least how to keep himself clean, something he's often been required to maintain in the past for his nightly tasks. Getting cleaned up sounded like the first thing that was expected of him, and so he was somewhat eager to do so as if it would please Chimera and Erystotle to be getting to his expectations so quickly.

The little brute was so timid that Chimera was on the verge of being irritated. He knew that, in order to fix the man, he would have to be patient. Sometimes it was just difficult. "Try to remember that you're no longer a slave. Every choice that you make is entirely your own. You will never be forced to do anything against your will again." It was like talking to a brick wall for now. With repetition, he was sure that the small man would get it eventually.
Erystotle had come far from the days where he'd been a lifeless, broken slave. He hoped that this little brute would be able to learn from the galactic marked man. Erys had really come into his own. If this discarded slave could do the same, then he was sure that the pair of brutes would form a lasting bond. Chimera couldn't be the main wolf in everyone's life, so sharing the load with Erystotle took a load off of the king's mind. "If you need or want anything, report to Erystotle first. If you can't find him, come to me. Understood?" Mismatched ears shifted forward for a moment, then Chimera nodded and left the man to his devices. His life was now his own and the dire brute was curious to see what he'd eventually do with it.
