As Sybil traveled south, the ground softened and the air got thicker. She didn’t mind the fog, it
enveloped her in a comforting embrace, and she liked how it blurred the edges between her
pale fur and the vapour. A ghost. She liked pretending to be intangible, beyond any common
dog’s grasp.

What she didn’t like was the cold puddles she seemed to step into every minute. The ice was thin,
as if it were simply a crunchy coating on the original surface tension, caving easily with a touch.
Her pace had been leisurely before, but she was considering moving quicker, if she even could.

She took a moment on solid earth, white with snow, to spare herself from more freezing water.
And she had dared to think this continent would grow on her. She sat, grumpy as all hell, glaring
at the frozen swamp around her.

The young wolf felt more than a little strange being this far from home. He’d been chasing his falcon, lost in the thrill of it as he tore through the lands after her. When he stopped to catch his breath, he was already pretty far from home, and so he started to wonder. Sticking his curious nose here and there until he arrived at the swampy territory. He stuck his nose up at the thick, muggy scent of the place.

Not one to back out of a challenge, he moved forward. Darting a glance up occasionally to the sky, where his falcon could be seen swooping. So long as he knew where she was, she could lead him home again.

Moving further in, he startled at a white shape in the fog, and let out a soft gasp before he could stop it. A ghost! Was that a ghost?

A solitary bird of prey flew above, and Sybil watched the bird dance with glazed eyes. She found
some peace in observing its movements, bored mind transfixed on it as it swooped.

A shadow on ground level snatched her attention away, shattering her meditation as her gaze
darted to the fog, muscles ready to spring her away like a frightened hare. She stood her ground,
waiting for a better look as the fog birthed a fearsome silhouette, moving towards her. A wolf, one
who had yet to notice her.

Their obliviousness was short lived as she saw them freeze, and she was surprised to hear a gasp.
Did she scare them? It was hard to pick up much detail due to fog and distance, but she thought it
safe to assume so. She rose to her feet, slowly, making no sound, blue eyes still focused on the
other canine. If they thought her a ghost, than she’d neither confirm or deny the fact. She reveled
in the feeling once again, of being formidable and unknowable. Gods, she loved the fog.
