A burden come to bear
The information he’d just learned was…well…about as life changing as when he’d learned Sedna was pregnant. But it couldn’t be true, because if it was…he didn’t even want to think about it. He went straight to the clinic where he was sure she’d be, and thankfully she was. He entered like a bat out of hell, mouth open as he breathed quickly from running. “Sedna, I need to talk to you. In our room. Please,” he said, his golden eyes pleading. His partner was always a good ear and would be able to suss out just how much truth there could be, but more than that this could potentially affect her, too. The woman had quickly grown to be someone he would daresay he loved, and her presence alone was enough to quell some of his panic.

Sedna was sorting away the last of her latest lesson with the girls when Raijin burst into her clinic. Her brows drew together in concern, and her eyes flicked to Otis who was poised and ready to grab a go bag in case there was some medical emergency that she hadn’t heard howling for.
The pair of them visibly relaxed when he asked to talk, her posture relaxing as she let go of a breath she hadn’t realised she had been holding. A small smirk tugged at the corner of her lips as she opossum made a shooing motion and continued to tidy up the small space, although she was still concerned. He had clearly run the whole way here. “O’course.” She responded easily, though it wasn’t really needed as she crossed the gap between them to press her shoulder into his.
Once safely tucked away, she made herself comfortable on the small pile of furs they slept on, and gestured with a tilt of her head for him to join her, though she would understand if the restless energy rolling off him kept him on his paws. “What’s troublin’ yer?”

He had clearly startled her and Otis, something he felt a bit bad about, but he could hardly see past how much he could have utterly fucked up. Thankfully, she agreed, pressing her shoulder into his and he relaxed into her touch. Everyday he was grateful for her coming into his life and gifting him with her presence and the lives of their little ones, but it was especially true in that moment.
The pair adjourned to their room, his partner settling on their bed of soft furs, leaving room enough for him but he didn’t feel as if he could lay just yet. He wasn’t sure how she would react when he told her. Their situation was born of happenstance, but they’d at least met on more than one occasion before getting knocked up. From what he’d learned of Sedna, he didn’t think she’d judge him on a possible mistake, on something that was completely out of his control, but this was going to hit closer to home than he had ever anticipated. Literally within their home, in fact.
He paced for a moment, trying to gather his thoughts before pausing and turning to her. “I…just spoke with Hattori, and he insinuated that Kuroo and Usagi are my sons,” he said at last. Between the partners, they rarely beat around the bush when it came to important matters. One of the things he loved about Sedna was her wit and the banter they shared, but when it came to being serious, she quickly got down to business. It certainly wouldn’t be any different now, he was sure.

Sedna allowed the words to wash over her, blinking once, head canting and then blinking again. She had her suspicions but was sure it would have come to light long before now if that were the case. She breathed in steadily, knowing her next words might cut to the bone, but there was no use pacing and panicking and putting thoughts and emotions in other people’s heads that may not even be there. “So what’re yer gonna do about it then?” There was no secret that she was fond of the boys, particularly Kuroo, who took every chance he could to bury himself in a pile of small bodies, his brothers and sisters. He had never bothered to treat them as anything less than blood. It was clear from the long bamboo pole that Fuji kept carting around to practice, and the scowl she kept practicing when she thought nobody was watching, that she thought Usagi was as close to the centre of the universe as her own parents were.
At least she wouldn’t have to mother them, they already had one of those. It didn’t change anything between her and the brothers, but she was lying to herself if she denied a new protective streak taking root in her heart. “They’re still young, yer can’t expect ‘em ter come ter yer an’ lay it all out. I’ll take th’ kids down ter th’ bay so yer can sort this out. Jus’ …don’t be an asshole about it. Don’ go makin’ excuses. Life is messy, shit happens. All yer can do is yer best from now on. An’ if that’s not enough, well…” It wasn’t his decision to make. “It’s unlikely ter be a quick fix anyway. How long ‘as it been?”
