He padded briskly across the plains, tail level with his spine and long hairs floating in an ink-black, fiery struck banner as he ran over the plans for the coming week.
Despite it only being Spring, it was always good to stock the larders. He wanted to do a hunt like his father’s mammoth hunt. Not just a bison or two. It would normally have meant a long trip to Auster to hunt one of these beasts he had his mind on, but Lyr had returned from one of his flights, practically shrieking with excitement as he dropped from the sky.
An elephant, an old bull that was well-fed but asking confused and unsteady, was meandering through the west of Boreas. It would take many paws to bring the animal down, and he wondered if they had enough to hunt him down. The confusion was that it was in the Ravine right next door, still on the upper half. Only Aerie… wasn’t there at all anymore. No pack border scent save for stale traces. What had happened since his encounter with Asmodeus?
It left Valhalla open to hunt there, however, so as he leapt to the top of the boulder, he tipped his head up and howled, long and loud, for the pack, his tone making it clear that it was a call primarily for hunters, but extra help might be required. A big hunt was on the wind.

Ardyn at first glance is as black as can be imagined with a raven sheen.
Closer inspection proves that he shimmers in fire tones in every hair on his hide right down to his lashes.
More obviously, he glows like a bed of coals and flames with every movement and brush of fur. His tail is usually wagging, so blazes like a torch.
His adult teeth are in and his saber canines have grown to their full length (see profile). His mane and tail hair have grown to full length, as well as being lightweight and easily buffeted by breezes.
A look at his front paws will give the impression of hands, with his dew claw dropped low and lengthened into a functioning thumb, and his toes elongated into fingers. He has retractable, solid black cat-like claws on every paw.
Ardyn has developed a glowing mast of intricate markings in fire and ice colors over his face, symmetrical over the last seasons of Year 17 (see profile for details). During hunts or raids/sieges, he will smudge them out with black soot to cover the glow, otherwise, they are bright enough to note at first direct glance at his face. Not all his artwork currently portrays the mask markings.
He is also often bedecked in beads, small bells, feathers in blues, ribbons and braids thanks to the Ooze Event of Halloween 2021, and the Coathanger item that he got. The accessories generally are seen most in his mane and tail hair. He removes the brighter items and bells for hunts or battle.

It was his day off, and the First Guardian strolled lazily through the plains, until a loud call fell on his ears. His laziness fell away as he broke into a lope toward Ardyn’s call, ears up and alert. It was a call to a hunt, but this sounded big.
Once upon a time it was the entire pack that attended a hunt, at least once a month, but over time the job fell more to the dedicated hunters of the pack. If Ardyn was calling on the rest of the pack to lend a paw, he had something large in mind. It wasn’t the usual time of year for a hunt beyond the walls, but if there was a good opportunity, traditions could be edited.
He trotted to a stop at the base of the boulder, studying the young king with interest. Lyr was perched above in the oaks and Cairo could see the raven was thoroughly excited.

She’d been tidying up and weeding out her mother’s herb garden when Ardyn’s voice called for the pack. Legacy glanced at her mother who nodded toward the call. If this was as big a hunt as it sounded like it would be, then they’d need a healer involved in case of injury.
Legacy swiped her paws through the grass, scrubbing the dirt from her fur as she set off, slipping her gathering pouch on. It held her emergency kit and supplies, and she hoped she wouldn’t have to be using it. If he needed so many that even those who weren’t dedicated to hunting, then whatever Ardyn wanted to bring down was dangerous.
Legacy slowed to a stop, glancing between Ardyn and Cairo as she took a seat to the side, wondering who all would respond to the call. Maybe she wouldn’t be the only healer to attend today.

Legacy is nearly always clad in her Deer Hide Armor when on outings, mainly because you never know when you'll find an herb to take home. Unless stated otherwise, it's relatively safe to assume she's wearing it.
A hunt had been called. Torben was not one to shirk duties, even if they were not his own. The scout with the very long title arrived, spotting faces he both knew and did not. He sat under as much shade as possible, cloud cover welcomed on his albino fur. He gazed intently at Ardyn, waiting for the High King to speak and give a plan. While a bit slower than some wolves, he was of a Dire height and could take down prey more easily than others. Attacking was his forte, and scouting was also his skill... But he would be assisting the hunt nevertheless. It helped to give this a shot; it was what he had said to Audra when she expressed interest in leaving the pack she wanted to join. He was no hypocrite. |

Ardyn's howl for a hunt rang loud and clear. She had been working on a couple of trinkets, though the task was a little difficult since she didn't have the dexterous hands or helpers that Ardyn had. Still, she enjoyed the challenge of it, even if it meant earning some frustration along with it. She put her stuff away for now, carefully putting it back into a shelf she had made in her part of the den before heading out to meet Ardyn and whoever else had arrived. The large she-wolf made it in time to find a few others gathered already, and although she wasn't intimately familiar with them, she at least could put names to faces. Joining the group, she sat among them and waited to see what would be on today's menu.
