Kotori was back to his old haunt of a hunting area.  It wasn’t only because he’d grown up near the area but the woods connected with a variety of good lands and was frequently crossed through whoever you were going.  Prey also enjoyed the area for the hiding spots, water, and currently lush growing grasses.

Today was no exception and Kotori followed the scent and as he got closer the tracks of the deer.  As he neared Kotori spied the mule deer near a tree where it was drinking some water that flowed in a thin channel.  The wind blew and for a moment the draping leaves hid it from sight but as the air stilled once more the animal was in plain sight.  Perfect.

"Kotori Fatalis"

Eulogy is out stretching her legs; the warm day had invited her to go exploring. As she walks, the older wolf scents the air, the idea of hunting fresh on her mind after meeting the young Kotori and hunting with him. The day after had been painful but, she also found that her joints were easier to move and she hopes that, continuing to exercise, will make movement less painful. The willow trees wave their long branches at her, as if greeting an old friend as she slowly meanders through the area.

Nostrils pull in the air and she finds, not only the scent of a deer but of the young male she had hunted with. Eyes light up as Eulogy changes course, quickly and makes her way to join Kotori near the prey. They are downwind and the mule deer does not notice Ko so the older wolf takes extra care to not draw attention to them. Coming up next to him, the older woman flashes Ko a smile and inclines an eyebrow while tilting her head in silent question about the plan.


"Eulogy Destruction"

Kotori is formulating his plans when a soft rustle sound comes near him.  Kotori turns his head to nod at Eulogy.  This changed up his plans to a degree and Kotori’s lips curved in a thin smile.  “Go over there,” Kotori nodded his head to another tree with thick wavy branches that obscured sight between the gusts of wind.  “I’ll head over,” Kotori pointed to a different tree that would create an almost straight line from Eulogy’s future tree, to the deer, to where Kotori would end up.  “Chase it when I’m in position.”  Kotori kept his words hushed.

He could let her take the kill, it didn’t particularly matter to him who got the final bite but he was playing on strategy  She was smaller and potentially faster whereas Kotori had the size for an easier and faster takedown.  If there were no questions Kotori would quietly move away from Eulogy to go get into the position he’d pointed out for himself.

"Kotori"

The older woman looks to the younger Kotori, following his paw to the tree he points out to her. Then her gaze shifts to the tree where he says he will be and the woman nods as the plan suddenly comes into view. With a dip of her head, she softly whispers, “As you wish.” A small smile is given before she silently moves away toward her designated tree. Making sure to stay downwind, Eulogy makes her way to her hiding spot and settles in to wait for Kotori.

Blue eyes scan the tree he pointed out to her and she soon spies Ko’s eyes staring back at her. Gaze flicks over to the mule deer and she lowers her body, readying to chase it to where Kotori waits. Without warning, Eulogy launches forward, racing toward the deer and growling. It startles and turns to flee, heading right for where Ko is waiting.


"Eulogy Destruction"

Kotori glides through the grass, careful of each step but it doesn’t take much effort.  He knows these stomping grounds all too well and muscle memory knows just how to move when hunting.  He makes his way to the designed tree and sets his gaze on where he had directed Eulogy.  

Patiently he waits but it’s a short wait before Eulogy runs from her spot, chasing the mule deer to where Kotori waits.  The closer they get the more Kotori’s muscles coil, ready to break free.  Something that happens fast seems to take far longer when all one’s attention is focused on it.  Kotori rushes forward when there are only a handful of strides between them.  Kotori lunges in, teeth gripping the underside of the neck.  

Kotori lifts his front legs off the ground, using his height to get them on her back, putting pressure to try and make the deer fall over.  The deer tries to run despite the wolf attacking its neck and back, it struggles to try and escape but Kotori’s not worried.  He’s expecting the other wolf to make it easy at this point.

"Kotori Fatalis"

Eulogy breaks cover, racing to where the mule deer grazes. Its head shoots up, nostrils flaring as it scents the predator and it turns to flee. From there it is easy to guide the prey to where Kotori hides, the older wolf only needing to adjust its course twice to make it head to the ambush area. The pair approach, the wolf’s heart thundering excitement and the large earthen male deftly leaps from his hiding spot. Ko makes it onto the deer’s back, attacking its neck and back while the creature continues to struggle and attempt to escape.

Silently, Eulogy moves ahead of the prey, turning to leap up and latch onto the prey animal’s neck. The deer snorts, attempting to take a few more steps and the older wolf adjusts her jaws while wrapping his forelegs around the creature’s neck. It stumbles, the combined weight of the wolves and fatal injury to its neck taking its toll on deer. With a snort, its legs collapse under it and Eulogy rips her head back, ending the struggling prey’s life swiftly. As the body stills, the older woman huffs and puffs, looking to Kotori with a happy grin.
