my, what big flippers you have!

He was so bored. Being stuck on the beach was awful! They almost didn't allow them to leave the dang ship, but thankfully agreed that the beach would be safe enough in the meantime. If he was being honest, the day was pretty nice too. Not a cloud to be seen, just barely a whisper of a chilly breeze ruffling his quills, and the obsidian sand beneath his paws sparkling like diamonds. Even the frothy waves that washed upon the shore looked rather inviting, but he told himself not today. No, today was a day for him to haul his brother along the beach shore to look for cool shells! "That one is huge," he said as he pointed a paw at a broken conch sticking from the sand. As the lanky boy approached it, a loud honking call caught his attention. Instantly his fur stood on edge as his quills bristled instinctively. Not far ahead of them, a rather slimy and furless creature flopped around on the shore with bristling whiskers and beady eyes. It honked and garbled strange noises that made Scald wonder why the heck it was even on their beach! "C'mon we gotta chase it off!" The boy said to Rexx as he took off toward the large flippered animal. Letting out a few loud alarming barks in the animal's direction, he wasn't expecting the thing to start barking back at him. Startled, Scald skidded to a halt and bared his teeth. No creature was gonna scare him off! Without thinking or assessing the situation, the pup lunged forward and snapped at the sea lion's flipper. Like Scald, Rexx was utterly bored of the ship. After a while, the novelty on being aboard the thing had worn off, revealing it was really little more than a wooden boat on the water. It just wasn't that fun to run around on anymore - so when it was said that the pups could explore the beach again, considering it safe, the burly boy wasted no time hopping off the ship with his brother, eagerly loping behind him with large toes splaying with each wide gait. He was growing - taller, heavier, bigger in general. Tusks were nearly reaching their full splendor, curled upwards and slightly behind in the most formidable manner. His crystal spikes elongated, now more dangerously sharp and clean-edged than ever. He just didn't realize he'd have to use them today. He and Scald were trying to find seashells, which he was more than happy to do. As his attention was directed by Scald to examine a broken conch in the sand, a strange braying noise interrupted them. Like his sibling, Rexx tilted his head at the strangest sight - a furless blob with beady eyes and flippers was honking about the beach, hopping about less than gracefully. He frowned. What the hell was it - some strange fish-dog he had yet to learn of? A lost deep sea creature? He still wasted no time as Scald rushed towards it, recognizing that it was strange and unwelcome. "We'll make sure it regrets trespassing on our beach!" Rexx barked, brow furrowed as he saw Scald snap at one of its strange flippers. The creature honked in alarm this time, trying to writhe its way away from the quilled boy and slap the empty air in some feeble effort to defend itself. Oh, that wouldn't do. With a snort, the tusked boy aimed to ram his thick skull into the seal's side, forcefully pushing it towards the water's edge. Still, the creature relented despite its sudden shove, snapping its jaws at him to reveal its sharp teeth. Next time the seal tried anything, it was getting the full brunt of his tusks. He'd clearly gotten it with the tips, noticing the punctures on its side welling with blood. |

Scald's quills bristle as the seal snapped and honked at them. Even when Rexx rushed to his side to help intimidate the creature into leaving the beach, the stupid thing wouldn't budge! Snarling himself, Scald let out a puppy-like growl that was met with beady eyes and a flap of a flipper toward his face. The brisque slap across his muzzle caused him to whine as his brother punctured the animal's side. That'll teach it to mess with them! Determined to chase this honking blubbery thing off their territory, Scald lunged once more at the beast. Latching his puppy sharp teeth onto the seal's flipper, Scald began shaking his head back and forth. Maybe he could rip it off! The tactic would prove to be unsuccessful as the seal ripped its flipper from his grasp, leaving fat and slimy skin stuck between his teeth. This, of course, pissed the seal off further until it was honking more and more at them. It aimed to latch onto Scald again but thankfully he had darted out of the way and laughed loudly. "It's so slow!" He squealed in delight as he dashed back in to try and grab at the flipper again. S C A L D

Rexx was all too annoyed, like Scald, that this dumb thing was refusing to leave their beach. The beady-eyed mammal simply snapped its jaws, huffing and swiping its flipper at his brother like it owned the place. Nope, that wouldn’t slide, especially not when the creature tried to slap him again. ”Not like we didn’t give it a warning! Come here, slowpoke!” Rexx barked towards the seal, sinking into a playbow to taunt it with his rows of crystal spikes. It seemed to work - the gargantuan thing wrenched itself slowly towards Rexx’s bowed form, where at that point the nub-tailed boy suddenly rose. He charged the animal, skidding at the last second to make the seal face his spikes with its teeth. He must’ve chipped a few teeth on the intruding creature, as he began to bray in some form of pain. If it even felt pain - did it? It was so thick skinned, even as Rexx giggled and swung himself out of the way and dove in to jab it again in its side with his tusks. The seal roared as Rexx’s tusk jab had purchase, though it didn’t bleed much on account of its fat and thick hairless pelt. |

"It'll regret coming on our beach after we're done with it!" Scald barked as he took his chance. As the lumbering beast hobbled its way toward Rexx's beckoning call, Scald dove in to grab at a flipper. The sea lion bellowed in agony as Scald held on for dear life. Puncturing the thick flubber, that tasted awful, he swung his head back and forth. In the process, his own quills flared along his spine. When the creature reached over to try and snap at him after the mouthful of crystals, it was now receiving a piercing bite of Scald's quills. More blubbering wails fell from the beast as it began trying to recede. Scald let go and let out a laugh. "Not so fierce now is he?" He cast a jovial look at his brother when the injured animal tried turning away. Lunging in one last time, Scald got ahold of its tail and began leaning back. Digging his paws into the sand, he held firm now to keep it from running away too fast. S C A L D
