Admittedly, Víðarr wouldn't pine for the desert once it was time to leave. The shifting beneath his paws was hard on his joints and reminded him that he was far slower than some of his companions. Slower, bulkier, more easily weighed down. Though the shadow carried himself well, it was hard out here for such a big guy. That was alright, though. He was alright. It was easy for his head to be filled with complaints, but the cause was good. Family, found or not, was important. Family kept him whole, and kept his head on straight. For them, anything.

The scent of the mule deer on the air was heavy, and the herd must be close. With his head high and gaze bright, he pinpointed their location. Down what was once a River, and around a slight bend, where the ground was packed hard enough to be able to chase for real. He's ready. The shadow was always ready. All he needed was someone to join him, knowing his limits and just how wily the dear could be.

"Come, I found dinner," right. Of they'd go.

"Víðarr"

She followed the shadow that day without so much as one word. In truth, the monochrome girl was still being hard on herself about the whole pack situation. Way to let down a whole bunch of wolves, eh? What she needed was a good run, a chase, something to go after and sink her teeth into. It was safe to say that the shadow man would lead her in the right direction.

Following the packed earth with her obsidian ears lifted between her curling horns, Celeste’s calm gaze flickered between Vidarr and where the mule deer scent wafted from. Her paw steps were light as a feather as she danced back and forth from one of his sides to the other. Unlike the behemoth Titan clothed in the night sky, she was light and agile, too quick for some to even see.

As he rumbled for her to follow, a quick smirk fell upon her stoic expression. Too bad she was ready to go after their dinner. Taking off like a bullet from a gun, Celeste opened up and headed straight for where the herd grazed lazily in the afternoon sun.

She was fast, he was not-- it made them an awfully good pair for hunting. Falling in a practiced tandem as they had many times before, the pair was able to work in harmony. That, and maybe Viðarr could hope to take her mind off of whatever not so great feelings in her chest. Though he wasn't much of a talker, he could help in the ways he knew. This is what he knows. Having pinned down the scent, the two of them were off.

Celeste was off like a shot, and the shadow trailed at a distance. The herd of mule deer came into view around the bend, and he took off at a steady run. Slower, but with purpose. Every ounce of the man (and there were many) was dialed in. Focused. The winds were in their favor, and the pair were able to approach their quarry without much detection. The shadow fixed his gaze on what looked to be an elderly cow toward the back of the herd, with enough meat on her bones to feed what remained of their scattered band. He inclined his head toward his target before surging towards her, making to push her away from the pack and pinch her position between his own and Celeste.

A small hunting party, but the perfect balance between strong and fast. Viðarr was living for it.

The thing about deer was that if you weren’t quick or smart, you would starve. These were the things she knew like the top of her paws. Ruling? Leading? Diplomacy? That was all stuff she was new at and apparently sucked at. Fuck, all she wanted to do was lounge around and have a good time. She hadn’t realized there was more to the fame and glory than being gluttonous.

Pushing all that agony aside as she drowned herself with the rushing of wind in her ears, she would steal quick glances back to the steady rhythm of Vidarr. The perfect hunting partner as she took her place. Creating a wide berth as he selected their target, using all of his intimidation to cut off that old cow, she clipped in from the other side.

With her head lowered, ears folded back, and teeth snapping at the old girls ankles, one might think she was a border collie. Relentless as spittle fell from her lips, Celeste drove her closer to Vidarr until there was nowhere to run.

Diplomacy, leadership, all the other things-- they'd come in time. They took practice. The things that were true weaknesses or that someone had a harder time learning? Well, those were things that could be outsourced. Viðarr knew all about that. He had sisters to do the diplomacy, the talking things for him. All he needed to do was fight and hunt, and keep them safe. Though he wouldn't admit it, maybe that had hurt his band too. Still, these things aren't personal failings. They aren't weakness. It's a learning curve, and nothing real would be lost in that curve anyway. Viðarr knew as much.

There was nowhere for the cow to run. Nowhere for her to hide. The pair moved in harmony, closing in from both sides. The shadow caught up, heart pounding in his chest. With as much force as he could muster, gathering all the strength in his back legs and pushing off, he sprung at her back legs. He'd topple the prey to his side, and out in front-- couldn't squish Celeste. The cow wobbled on her feet for a long moment before finally going down, fighting and flailing the entire way.

By the time the shadow makes it to the cow's shoulder and exposed throat, curiously, she's stopped moving. The creature's neck is at an odd angle. Having broken on true impact with the ground, it's spared of further misery. Panting, doing his best to catch his breath, he takes stock of the food source. This would make for a fine meal for the band, after all.
