I'm sick of convеrsations in the dark.

Beru was so bored. He'd explored the whistling willows, traversed the whispering gorge on a surface level, travelled back into the willows, and now here he was in emerald valley. Only problem was he'd been here for the better part of a day and a half now so sight seeing was losing it's luster. The yearling wasn't sure if he was worried sick or annoyed like hell over the absence of his sister this past week. At this rate she'd better hope she was in some kind of danger, because he couldn't fathom why she'd otherwise need to leave him all alone for this long. So. fucking. bored.
He'd been gazing up at the clouds not because he wanted to, but because looking at the river got boring. His right paw was slothfully waggling around in the running water. Every once in a while a small fish would come nibble at his toes, but the male would just shoo them away. They were too small to satiate his apatite, and he was in no mood to entertain the small creatures or have them as company. Fish made for rude guests. "Stupid." He grunted.
"Stupid." The male heard his words repeated back in a rather raspy tone from just behind him. He shot up and immediately sought to locate the source, and when he realized it was but a raven he started to laugh. "No, you." Beru grinned.
"Stupid." The raven responded once more, and the yearling could feel his eye twitch. The raven hopped a few feet closer to the wolf, then bravely flew up and landed on his back. "Stupid." Oh, what the hell? Beru didn't know they were chill like that. Or maybe they weren't, considering the fact that the bird only seemed to want to insult his intelligence. Whatever. He was lonely and if a bird was to be his only company while he waited for his stupid sister to show up then so be it. "I'm gonna call you Walpurgis." He grinned, head positioned so that he could see the bird on his back.

And in time we find some shelter, Spill our seeds and then wait for our turn Wari followed Beru's trail at a leisurely pace, huffing a sigh every now and again when she realized he seemed to still be moving, but making absolutely no move to speed up. She had very politely asked him to remain where she'd left him, and he had very rudely decided to go gallivanting across the entire continent instead, so she'd catch up to him when she caught up to him. Never mind the fact that she'd gone ahead and scouted out a herd, picked out the most likely creature to become their dinner, andfound a half-way decent den site to crash at, and they were heading further and further away from those things. Never mind the fact that he didn't seem to listen to a word she ever said and never mind the fact that she was, rightly, a little bit angry with him and his stupidity. When she finally, finally stumbled upon his big, dumb form, Wari nearly tackled him, and really, she might have, if she hadn't tuned in to his little conversation. Peachy eyes painted a very interesting scene as her gaze locked on to her brother's form, and subsequently made its way to the raven he had so lovingly named. "Miss me so much that you've now resorted to chatting up birds?" The yearling huffed a laugh as she waited for Beru's response. |

"Wari." Beru snarled as his head shot toward the sound of her voice. "Stupid!" The sudden movement spooked the bird, but it settled back in just fine not even moments later. "And where the hell have you been?!" He snapped. "When you left I didn't think it would take this long! It's been, like, what? A whole week, maybe more?" Truthfully he didn't have a frame of reference at all when it came to how long she'd be away because, again, the yearling hadn't been listening when she'd told him where she was off to. She looked fine though, a sight he swore would piss him off, but.. Well, he'd never admit it but he felt relieved by it.
"And for fucks sake. Of course I'm talking to birds now! I've been alone all this time and they match your intelligence well enough so I figured why the hell not?!"

And in time we find some shelter, Spill our seeds and then wait for our turn Wari couldn't stop the incredulous look that danced across her features, nor the confusion and anger that followed it. How fucking dare he use such an accusatory tone on her, as if she'd wanted to be gone so long. "Who pissed in your leftovers this morning?" Because she knew it wasn't her. "Maybe it wouldn't have taken a week if you'd stayed where I left you. I've been hunting you down for the better part of three days." And he didn't make himself easy to find, either. To his last quip she could only reply, "Go to hell, Beru. You and I both know I'm the intelligent one. All you're good for is brute strength and bad plans." Which wasn't exactly true, but the yearling was too mad to care. |

"Well then you should have walked faster." Beru couldn't deny the fact that perhaps their reunion taking as long as it did might have fallen on his shoulders because he really could have been the one to blame here. In fact, he was pretty sure that he was. "How long did you expect me to sit around and wait for you? I grew bored, Wari." And with that being the best he could do, the boy felt the scales tip in her favor. He had just entered a losing battle. "You want me to go to hell? Fine. Show me the fuckin' way." He suppressed a snarl. She was so annoying. Why couldn't she just be a good sister and let him be mad at her for reasons that were completely of his own making?
"...Where... did you even go..? I was worried, you know." the yearling said with a semi-softer and much quieter voice.

And in time we find some shelter, Spill our seeds and then wait for our turn Wari flashed her teeth at his suggestion. "Maybe you should have walked slower." Or not walked away from their decided meeting spot at all. His excuse was nothing short of exasperating, causing her to huff an angry laugh at the sheer audacity of it all. "Bored? You were bored? You could have come with me, you know. It's not my fault you wanted to stay behind, and I expected you to wait until I got back. Like you were supposed to." Ugh he was so frustrating. But then his tone shifted, and with it, her anger dissipated. "I went to scout out the herd, just like I said." A herd that was a few days behind them now. "And we decided it'd be better if I went alone. Remember?" Because she was smaller, and therefore, less noticeable. He had been a part of that conversation, hadn't he? |

"Oh, yeah.. I know.." He hadn't known, actually. "I just.. I don't know.. I thought something could have happened." It all sounded so stupid leaving his lips. Of course nothing happened, because she was too smart and too agile to let anything happen to her on a simple scouting trip. He'd never admit and of that out loud though.
"It's whatever. Don't take that long again. I could have done it in half the time even if I am bigger than you." There it was, that previous hostility from before. Beru wasn't good at all of that mushy shit. It was better to just act pissed. "Or I'll just come with you next time if you don't think you can do any better."

And in time we find some shelter, Spill our seeds and then wait for our turn Wari softened completely, releasing all the tension she'd been holding in her shoulders. "You know I'm too smart for that." Her voice was warm and smooth as the words fell from her tongue. "And I'm always careful." Which might have been a bit of a lie, but felt like an appropriate thing to say. Even his slight insult wasn't enough to rile her, because it lacked fire, which meant his heart really must not have been in it at all. "Fine, then. Next time you can just come with me." She offered a smile. "Just don't get in the way." |
