Maki decided now was as good of a time as any to practice her growling. It was very important for a wolf to perfect its snarl, and she was determined to have a proper one, one that would send shivers down her enemies spines. Not that she had any enemies...or even disliked anyone but still! Sitting in the cosy greenery of the Ravine, Maki sat there, expression very serious as she tested it out. But as always reality rarely lived up to her sparkling expectations, but that wouldn't stop her from trying. Very little could.
"Grr?"Not very fierce. Not even a mouse would cower.

Hotate was getting more used to the other young ones as time went on. He was still maybe a little sour but that was just him. He still liked to wrestle and play games sure, but for the most part he liked his personal time to himself. How often was that? Not very often. But to his little young mind it felt like a lot of time, or enough at least.
While he was out exploring the new lands of Ashen, he came across his sister before she started practicing that silly little growl of hers. He had a silent chuckle to himself as he witnessed, but he wouldn't condemn her for it. Not too much for now at least.
Without much warning he approached her more, not making himself well known other than the sound of his paws and voice when it rang out, "Got'ta be tougher than that." Maybe a little tease, typical. He'd let out his own little snarl out into the ravine. It wasn't much better being the little boy he was, but he sure thought it was. He looked back to Maki with a smirk, waiting for her to give it a go again.

Maki turned, her eyes wide and ears flopping slightly with the momentum of her movement. Oh it was Hotate, watching her with his darky, dark eyes. She paused for a moment, unsure of what he was referring to, only to realise she'd been growling-or trying to- a moment ago. No doubt he was a better snarler than her and so she was very quick, probably too quick, to take his opinions on board. She nodded very seriously, before getting up to give him a gentle head nudge to his shoulder.
"Can you show me?" And then he snarled and ooooh, maybe to anyone else it might not have been very impressive or scary, but Maki looked at him like there were stars in her eyes. All full of wonder. And so she tried again, attempting to sound fierce and scary, enough to scare birds from the trees.
Somewhere nearby a bird pooped off a branch, clearly not intimidated in the least.

Somewhere in his young little brother mind he could love the admiration he saw in Maki's eyes as she looked at him through his impressive snarl. Nothing he would ever admit though. The other group of pups, his siblings, were growing on him as time went on. But he was still that rough and irritable boy. Most of the time at least. He let his guard down a little just for the way Maki reacted to him, and still tried her best afterwards.
With a toe pointed at the bird that flew off, Tate showed a smirk and commented, "Better, but you'll have to keep practicing." Not so harsh as he could have been for sure. "Bet we can find something better to scare." He'd try to lead her off, a little bit of a stalk maybe. He thought somewhere in the brush they could find a rabbit or some guinea fowl. Or better yet, a skunk. He wouldn't mess with those of course, but he wouldn't warn his sister of that either. How sad after she made him feel such pride in himself.

Maki was more than eager to follow her brother's lead, just from his more serious personality and the way he spoke made Maki feel like he really knew what he was doing. Like he was wise beyond his years, and probably even smarter than their daddy.
"Yeah!" Maki's imagination was quick to unfurl, unravelling like a long parchment with words scribbled all along its length. "We could find a lion! Or a tiger! And roar real loud and it'd get all scared like AHH! NOOO! DON'T EAT ME!!" She puffed up her chest, leaning onto her tippy toes to stand tall as she could manage...Which wasn't all that tall, even if we're being generous.
