He slid from the water with a slosh of sodden fur and glared back at the raft as it bobbed innocently on the ocean water. He could count himself lucky that he hadn’t laden any supplies on the raft for the trip over here, or it would have been floating on the waves, or sunk to the sand beneath the water.
He was glad the wave had sent him flying off the raft relatively close to the island’s shoreline. Sighing, Ardyn waded back out to snatch the rope in his jaws, turn to and heave the raft behind him onto the shore.
Once he was certain it had been lodged well above the reach of the water, Ardyn flopped into the sand, glad for the Summer sun beating down on him—he’d be dry quickly, at least. So far the pig-hunting trip was off to a bit of a bad start, but hopefully, the snares had caught some hogs to bring home.

Ardyn at first glance is as black as can be imagined with a raven sheen.
Closer inspection proves that he shimmers in fire tones in every hair on his hide right down to his lashes.
More obviously, he glows like a bed of coals and flames with every movement and brush of fur. His tail is usually wagging, so blazes like a torch.
His adult teeth are in and his saber canines have grown to their full length (see profile). His mane and tail hair have grown to full length, as well as being lightweight and easily buffeted by breezes.
A look at his front paws will give the impression of hands, with his dew claw dropped low and lengthened into a functioning thumb, and his toes elongated into fingers. He has retractable, solid black cat-like claws on every paw.
Ardyn has developed a glowing mast of intricate markings in fire and ice colors over his face, symmetrical over the last seasons of Year 17 (see profile for details). During hunts or raids/sieges, he will smudge them out with black soot to cover the glow, otherwise, they are bright enough to note at first direct glance at his face. Not all his artwork currently portrays the mask markings.
He is also often bedecked in beads, small bells, feathers in blues, ribbons and braids thanks to the Ooze Event of Halloween 2021, and the Coathanger item that he got. The accessories generally are seen most in his mane and tail hair. He removes the brighter items and bells for hunts or battle.

A scuff of paws in sand and a yip of greeting sent Ardyn’s head lifting, craning to see who was there. A man of warm tans and browns with yellow eyes. It only took a second of contemplation before he pulled the name to the surface and matched it to the face. Seumas had volunteered his help in hunting that elephant. It'd been a wild day, indeed.
“Afternoon, Seumas. How’ve you been since that hunt?”
He rolled to his paws and shook the sand from his damp coat, sending sparks flaring through his ink-black fur and long mane and tail as he smiled at the man. The bells and beads woven into the long strands of his mane and tail tinkled and clicked softly, while the feathers twisted on the wind as he padded forward to meet the male halfway.
Lyr dropped to the top of the shoddy mast on the raft, head tipping this way and that as he observed the two men, glowing black and white plumage fluttering against the breeze.

It still amazed Seumas to see some of the peculiarities that the wolves in these lands bore. For instance, Ardyn's glowing fur, his tusks! He wondered what the mystical causes were for such wonders. The male himself felt quite plain in comparison.
Seumas took a few steps forward closer to the alpha and dipped his head low. They weren't on the other male's lands, but he still deserved respect. The hunt truly had been a feat. He had never seen a beast such as the one they felled that day. It was only through skill and some luck that all had come away unscathed. "Good afternoon, Ardyn. It's good to see you again. I've been just fine, thank you." That may be a slight overstatement. Seumas had of course been fine over the last while, if not lonely. In his solo wanderings around Boreas, he had rarely encountered others. It was slowly grating the male down. "What brings you to this little island? Besides a chance for a nice swim," Seumas asked with a chuckle.

He smiled at the earth-toned male’s words, nodding cheerfully. “I’m glad. We’ve been well, too.”
At Seumas’ query, Ardyn huffed softly, tipping his head toward the trees with a grin, “I have snares set for the local hogs. I came to see if any were successful in snagging a swine. As for swimming, well, I hadn’t planned to swim, but the ocean had other plans.”
He nodded to the raft with a chuckle. “It tipped me overboard. Luckily, I didn’t have any supplies on board except my armor, and that was lashed to the mast.”
He regarded the man with a smile, brows lifting as he added, “Care to join me in waking the snares? I’m happy to share the kills.”
