The Warlord listened to Aris’ children, and made plans and accommodations to assist them how he could. He gave Tethy’s a run down of the basics, and set her up with Hazel as a mentor. Atreus spoke of an interest in hunting. He could assign Basilisk to him as a mentor and do as he had done with his sister - get him started on the basics. As for Zeejay, he told Wylan to go and meet her, so the two could do some learning together. Not a proper mentor, but Zeejay was a sickly child, and Wylan a gentle one. He would do her some good.

With this in mind, he raised his head and called out to Atreus, asking the boy to meet him at the edge of the woods. It was growing later in the day, and dusk wouldn’t be far off. A good time to hunt.

When his grandfather's voice rose out again summoning him, it was for him alone this time, away from his siblings. Atreus gave himself a shake that made his quills rattle, drawing himself up with a feeling of importance, of satisfaction, unconsciously squaring his shoulders as he set out to meet the alpha. It was not in his head that he could possibly have done something wrong to draw his grandfather's attention to him, after all, so it must be something important. Something just for him. He wasted no time in getting to the woods, coming up to his grandfather with as much dignity as a gangly yearling could manage, his turquoise eyes intense and bright in their dark mask. "Good evening, Grandfather," he rumbled with an almost painful level of seriousness, doing his best to keep his already naturally deep voice from cracking as it had a tendency to do lately. "What will we be doing?" Patrolling together, side by side? Filling the pack's larder? Fighting off hordes of bears? Overthrowing a foreign government? He was fully and without reservation down for any and all of the above.

The young wolf was a brighter purple than his mother. With the tell-tale Fatalis makings, and a serious attitude that had him hiding a smile. “Hello Atreus” He answered back, matching the boy’s energy. “Would you like to go on a hunt with me?” He asked, looking up at the darkening sky between the gaps of the fence erected alongside the Cole’s entrance into the forest.

“It’s dusk, which means a lot of creatures will be heading into their beds, and others will be just waking. Do you know what creatures you like the taste of?” He asked curiously. Assuming it wasn’t anything they needed more wolves to take down. He wanted his grandson to be proud of what he caught.

Atreus nodded gravely, though his chest was swelling with pride at the question. "Yes, I'd like that." Standing straight beside Sirius, he peered up at the sky as he did, then stared off intently into the forest, committing Sirius' words to memory. If a bunch of animals were heading off to or out of bed, that meant that a lot of different kind would be available. "Meat is meat," he said absently in response to Sirius' prompting. He'd always viewed food as fuel rather than something to savor for pleasure. "Can we hunt something big enough to share with the pack?" He tried to think about what would what two wolves could be expected to take down. While he had the utmost confidence in his grandfather's ability, and secretly wanted to hunt something particularly impressive like an elk or moose, he reluctantly admitted that his untrained assistance would probably be more hindrance to him than help, so maybe not a really big animal. "Deer? Mountain goat?"

The Warlord had something smaller in mind, but the possibilities the Prince offered were plausible. The Warlord nodded his head after a moment, agreeing. “If you can catch the scent of one of them” He warned, voice gently teasing. He started to move forward, leading Atreus out of the Col and into the woods beyond. There were still mountains around them, and the chance of a mountain goat was still there. Or, he could catch the scent of deer in the woods.

“Let's start with tracking. Pay attention to your nose, and the direction of the wind. What can you scent?” He asked, his eyes on the younger boy.

Atreus followed his grandfather eagerly, and at his prompting he half-closed his eyes and raised his nose, turning his head so that he faced into the wind, breathing deeply. As always, for a moment there were too many scents, a bewildering array of them, until he slowly worked through them. "There's so much." He was quiet a moment as he sniffed at the wind. Familiar scents of pack wolves going in and out of the woods, both old scents and new, he identified and set aside. The scent of strangers coming to and leaving the market as well. He could smell prey animals, too, mostly small animals, and old deer scent, even one he recognized vaguely as elk, but only one scent was overwhelmingly hot, something new. He frowned, eyes opening, and he sniffed again. "I smell... something strange. I don't know if I've smelled it before. It's... a little familiar but I can't place it." He breathed deeply, drawing the scent into his nostrils. It was the smell of a wild boar, an older piglet not quite old enough to be away from his sounder but lost - Atreus couldn't know that it had been separated when the sounder had run away during another wolf's hunt.
