It had taken her a little bit to even begin to process the anticipation of her trip. This would be the first time she had truly left Elysium for more than just a walk through neighboring territories. There was so much that could go wrong. But figuring out the logistics of it was enough to ease her mind a bit- enough so that the excitement began to set in. She was going to seek out mentorship. It was finally happening. Though, there was one final thing that needed to be addressed, and it was the extension of an invitation.

It didn’t take her long to track her brother down from around the lake- he was hunting, as he usually was. That was why she didn’t necessarily feel bad interrupting him- there was always going to be another hunt. “OOoohhhh, MAAAL-Lie!” She shouted out in rise-and-fall cadence of tone. The undergrowth was sparse, but even with the sudden eruption of her voice, birds took to the sky out of alarm. After a few moments of hesitation listening for an echo of annoyance, a grin broke her expression as she drew her breath to finish her call out. “I have a surprise for yooou!” Mariah finished, waiting for Malico to manifest out of his cover.

Each day is much of the same for the purple boy; he wakes up, eats, hunts, and sleeps. Now, Malico isn’t necessarily unhappy with the comfortable life he has in his family’s pack but he isn’t entirely satisfied either. There is a whole wide world beyond the borders of his home and there is a part of the boy that yearns to go explore it. However, even though he longs to go out and adventure, there is someone here that keeps his paws firmly inside the pack lands; Mariah. His littermate has always been very dear to him and the boy worries excessively for her well-being. Maybe it is because Mal has been raised in a matriarchal pack but the boy seems unable to leave Mar behind.

Speaking of his sibling.

The boy is crouched low in a tall patch of grass, his purple coat hidden from the eyes of his prey and those who may be trying to find him. Not too far ahead of him, a rather large, rather fat, unsuspecting rabbit lounges near the water’s edge. Malico slowly creeps toward the creature and, just when he is getting ready to strike, his sister’s sing-song words fill the air, causing birds to take wing and his prey to flee. A scowl crosses his features but, at her next words, the irritation he feels at losing his snack falls away and he easily stands up, breaking his cover. Mar isn’t too far away and he quickly trots over to her to ask, “What kinda surprise, Mar?” Brows lift in curiosity and his blue eyes shine with excitement.


"Malico Mendacium"

Malico didn’t disappoint. The yearling brute was quick to join her, with a questioning glance, but with a glint of excitement. Readily questioning just what kind of surprise she had lured him out with. “A fantastic one.” Mariah quickly answered, offering a mischievous grin before continuing on in a more detailed description. “How would you … like to accompany me … on an adventure?” She asked, searching his expression for any indication of an initial response. Mariah was beaming with excitement- she couldn’t hardly stand it. Not that she was necessarily eager to abandon her family, but the opportunity to be independent, and to make her own choices was enthralling.

As she let her initial question soak in, she went on to explain the nature of their adventure. “Our beloved sister is going to arrange for me to mentor with some of our allies- since there isn’t a surplus of resources for me here. She mentioned I could likely visit Ashen, the Hallows, and possibly Valta.” Though, that explained why she was leaving. It was an easy transition as to why she requested her brother’s accompaniment. “But, I can’t go alone. So I need you to come with me.” She concluded, implying that she wasn’t going to give him an opportunity to refuse her. The thought of leaving Malico behind did frustrate her a bit. But Avacyn’s gentle reminder that she wouldn’t force their brother to go if he didn’t want to, came to mind. It was difficult for her to relinquish that control, but in the end, decided she would give him the opportunity to refuse … even if it was a big mistake. “I think it will take quite a while to make the rounds.” Mariah started. “I suppose … if you wanted to escort me there and back, and return to Alias Island in the meantime … you could …” she said, trying to convey her imminent disappointment at the idea. “but I think it would be far more fun if you stayed with me.” She quickly added with a broadened grin and a gentle nod- anything she could try and offer up to influence his response. “And, I bet you could find mentors as well.”

She hadn’t realized she had leaned forward in her effort of trying to convince him. But when she realized she had, she made no move to correct herself. “What do you think?” Mariah asked blinking that sterling gaze of hers. How could he possibly tell her no?

Of course, Mariah knows just what to say to get Malico’s attention and, as he appears to questions what the surprise is, the boy cannot keep the excitement from his gaze as waits to hear what his sister has to say. The mischievous grin that crosses her lips has his brows raising but he stays silent, allowing her to explain what this adventure is. Head tilts slightly is curiosity as she speaks of visiting some of Elysium’s allies and the boy cannot deny the offer is… tempting. Mar admits that she cannot go alone and needs him to come along and his lips wiggle in amusement as he realizes that she needs him.

Still, he does not speak, allowing her to continue on as she makes it very clear she will be disappointed if he says no. Mal schools his features into a neutral mask as she asks what he thinks and the boy makes a big show of pondering this, surprise. Finally, his lips crack into a smirk and he lifts an eyebrow as he says, “When do we leave?” Was there really any doubt in her mind that he would say no? The littermates have always been thick as thieves since there birth and, where she went, he would follow. Plus, he worries about her… like a lot and the only way to protect her is follow her.

Her brother certainly made a show of indifference, and if she didn’t know any better, she would have thought he was actually considering declining her offer. However, when the smirk finally cracked his expression, she couldn’t help but mirror it with one of her own. When do we leave? That just so happened to be her own question as well. “Hopefully sooner, rather than later.” Mariah answered vaguely. Truthy, she didn’t exactly know how to answer that just yet. Avacyn hadn’t given her a solid time frame. In their last conversation, she was given the objective to inquire about her escort. Ava’s immediate task was procuring a Raven- which brought her to her next thought. “Ava wants us to take a raven with us, just in case we need to communicate something.” Mariah explained, recounting the secondary condition their sister had given her. Even still, she did feel that it was a logical request- one she had no problem with complying with. She wondered how long it would take for her to acquire such a companion. Blinking away the concern with that particular concern, she met Malico’s gaze once more. “I’ll keep you informed.” She finished, offering a flash of a brightened grin with a mischievous glint in her temporary farewell, before turning on her heels- leaving her brother where he stood in the undergrowth. There was lots that needed to be accomplished before their departure, and she still needed some time to mull things over in solitude.
