If Kiela had been here before she didn't remember it. This place was strange, and unlike anything she'd ever really seen before, though it wasn't a surprise that the north consistently had new things for her to experience. Since Heiðinn's formation she had mostly stuck close to their packlands, occasionally drifting away to keep an eye on her herd. This winter was already proving to be a harsh one though the previous seasons had been good to the herd and their numbers were plentiful right now. Of course she wouldn't find them so far north, not at this point in the season, but she wasn't here for them - rather for herself.

Well, for herself as well as her pack. Besides tending to her herd - for if they were cared for, so would Heiðinn be - she was to be a scout, to be eyes and ears for anything and everything that might be worth reporting back to them. Not just in regard to other wolves but the world itself. Paying close attention to the weather, the stars, the patterns of prey animals.. those were all equally as important as any political news. That was what she believed.

There wasn't much to see here though, at least not anything worth reporting. The bitter wind that came in from the north was enough to chill even her to the bone, and she braced herself as another gust of it whisked over the flat expanse of ice and only half-visible trees. It was like they were frozen in time here, their lower halves encased in ice far below. It was a reminder of their size, she decided, as she paused near one and swiped a paw across the ice. The view below was semi-opaque but one could still see the outline of a tree below, murky green and brown.

"searching for meaning through lidded success..."

Gather supplies. If he were to be useful he needed to learn. Requois wasnt one for fighting much despite that Ruby had taught him some viscious blows. No he was glad and didnt even know it to have time away from his mother. Who for some reason insisted on putting herself in danger. His frown deepened letting thw icy wind trail up his fur. He liked the north hed decided when he arrived. Req blended in perfectly and with the snow fall his albino coat was like a flash and it was pure bliss to him.

This place was stranger than anything hed seen though. Curiosity driving the thinner male forward. He stared at the tops of the trees. Noting how each one seemed to still carry leaves. The ice beneath encased this forest. For how long had they been standing in all this ice and snow. The thought of so much time passing made him shiver. Was there any good prey in these cold and unforgiving lands. Hed find that out the more of this he uncovered. Alas no animals in sight until his red eyes squinted at a shape in the distance.

Other wolves were dangerous at the best of times. At least thats what he had learned. Cautiously he continued across the ice. Stopping at tops of trees every now and again to peer down as far as he could into the opaque ice. Once he was a few feet away from her , her pack scent flooded his nose. There was something.... familiar about it.

Silently Req depended on his own rigid body language. He wasnt as tall as the lady, but giants were not uncommon. Turning his gaze to the ice he dipped his head to Kiela. He meant no harm perhaps just like her he was gaining knowledge of the land. Req had to, he began digging around one of the trees. He wondered, if he dug deep enough would he be able to find the end of this tree? What was the world like beneath all this ice.

It was easy for Kiela to find herself distracted by exploring a land that was new to her, fully engrossed in learning its peculiarities. For a long while she imagined what could've happened to encase these trees in ice like this. Seemingly this had once been a body of water, long since frozen over, but what natural phenomena had caused this? Something that had caused the water levels to rise dramatically and the temperatures to freeze not long after, judging by the state of the trees, still visibly green under the ice as if they truly had been frozen in time. She was unsure what exactly would have caused it though. The surrounding lands were scattered with mountains, breaking up the frozen tundra, so maybe run-off snowmelt from the mountains made sense if the lands had experienced a sudden rise in temperatures and then a flash freeze. Maybe….

Kiela mulled over the possibilities as she wandered, occasionally pausing to swipe a large paw over the ice, attempting to see below. It was mostly more of the same, a vast stretch of ice below and towering trees that she stood high above. Her attention had been captured by the strange terrain, she wasn't entirely oblivious of someone else nearby, though she realized much sooner than she would've liked. Slowly she tilted her head to search for the nearby stranger, finding him difficult to spot against the backdrop of snow and ice.

She returned the nod with one of her own, polite but not overly so, happy to keep a safe distance even as she decided to speak to him.  "Strange place, isn't it?" Came the best greeting she could think of, after a long pause.
