Wylan was trotting along through the woods, his little round polar bear beside him, when a small blue bird suddenly flittered right by his muzzle. He jerked to a stop in surprise, his eyes following the bird as it darted through the air. It vanished into the trees a moment later - only to appear out of the trees suddenly behind him. It darted over his face, and he playfully jumped upwards, biting the air after it. He missed entirely of course, and the bird was gone again.

But it gave him an idea.

One he’d been wanting to try for a while. Despite everything all the grownups in his life had told him, Wylan knew that he could fly. Why else would he have wings? He had had so many dreams of flying with the clouds. He had even dreamed about what it would taste like (the texture of seafoam, but sweet!) Today was the day.

He trotted through the woods until he found an appropriate tree. One leaning in such a way that he could walk almost directly up it. He moved until he was at the highest point he could get to. Now he just needed to find a good, clear spot to jump from.

Oh how happy she was that winter was over! It was ironic, of course, given that it was her namesake, but she was so happy to feel it getting less cold. The cold was all she had really known since she had never been to all of the warmer places she had heard about in stories, but she knew what she at least knew it felt better to not have her toes frozen all the time! She was wandering through the trees and enjoying this break in the chill when she noticed a bit of movement in the shadows of the branches that criss crossed over head. She watched the shape move across the ground with a tilt of her head for a moment before she finally tipped her head back, following the near by tree trunk until her blue eyes landed on the form of her winged brother.

"Wylan!" she called up to him, her tail wagging as she lifted a paw to wave up at him. It was kind of hard to tell how high he actually was, but he seemed reeeeally high from where she was standing! "What're you doing up there?" she questioned, yelling up to him with a curious tilt of her head. The trees were slanted in a way that they weren't terribly hard to climb–she had climbed them a bit here and there when the adults weren't looking–but she didn't know if he had found something cool or something like that. If he had she wanted a part of it!

He was walking along one side of his tree when a voice caused him to jump a little. His wings flared out and he tilted precariously for a moment. When he regained his balance, he peeked down and saw his sister, Wynter. “Hey, Wynter!” he called out, grinning at her.

His expression was more than a little mischievous as he crouched down on the tree, his head hanging over the side. He wasn’t the least bit afraid of heights, and was as comfortable in the tree as he was on the ground. “I’m going to do some flying lessons, wanna come up and help me find a spot to jump off of?” He asked her.

"Flying lessons?" she questioned a bit doubtfully, but the idea of coming up where he was and being a part of these flying lessons he had decided he was going to do was too interesting for her to pass it up. "Yeah!" she called back up to him and immediately she ran over to the base of the tree he was currently standing on. She didn't have the wings for balance or the claws for gripping like he did or that their father did, but with some careful footwork she managed to start climbing her way up to where he was crouched and waiting for her. Luckily the tree he had picked was pretty sloped so she managed without too much trouble.

"What kind of spot do you think would be good for flying?" she asked as she started examining the rest of the trunk and some of the larger branches that grew out from where they were standing. Maybe he had done all kinds of flying lessons when she wasn't looking and he already knew just the kind of spot to look for! Her only reference for things that flew were birds so she trying to imagine what a good place for a bird to take off and land would be. Obviously somewhere open and not super crowded with branches he might run into was a good start. "What about that spot?" she asked, using her paw to point out a thick limb that didn't have any other smaller branches growing off of it until further down the branch–well out of the way at the very least.

When Wynter agreed to join in with him, he happily waited for her. His tail swaying back and forth behind him, betraying his excitement. He watched as she made her way up the tree trunk, walking a little more cautiously than he had. “Something… open” he said when she had come to join him. “There’s so many trees, I’m not sure where I’ll get a clear run” He explained.

He looked to the spot where she was pointing, and studied it critically “...Yeah, I think that’ll do just the thing” he agreed, bouncing up on his paws without any care for the height whatsoever. His claws dug easily into the bark, and he manoeuvred easily around her and onto the branch she had pointed out. “Alright… on the count of three, yeah?” He said, looking over at his sister. His eyes were a little wide. Both from trepidation and excitement.

Wynter grinned as Wylan agreed with her choice for his flying branch and settled on the spot she had perched on to watch him. She didn't have the claws that he had to move around so assuredly on the branches–and she didn't have wings to catch herself if she did fall–so she thought it was a better idea for her to hang back a bit while he did his flying lesson. She still had a great vantage point through as she watched him move up to the thick branch and she watched curiously as he got into position. She did wonder again if he had done this before or if he really knew what he was doing. She liked to spy on her siblings, but she certainly wasn't watching them all the time so it wasn't like she knew everything they did every moment of the day. Surely this wasn't his first time trying this, right?

What made her wonder about the validity of that fact even more though was how he looked back at her and confirmed that he should go on the count of three. If he had been really confident and sure of what he was doing he wouldn't need a count down or the be reassured that he was doing it right. Her first reaction was to encourage him regardless of what it was so she nearly agreed with him, but a little nagging feeling made her hesitate. "Yeah, uh... You've done this before, right?" she called up to him, hoping that he'd say yeah and that he'd take the leap to glide back down to the bottom, but she'd feel better if he confirmed that fact for her first.
