Learnin' stuff

Rampage stood near the edge of the flooded lake.  A few ducks could be seen midway out, floating on the surface of the water and seemingly unconcerned by his presence.  They were keeping an eye on him though, he had tested that by simply putting a paw into the water which would cause the ducks to swim off a short bit extra or just stop and watch to make sure he went no further.

His main intent was a stick he was placing in the ground a few inches in the water.  He used a claw to scratch lightly at the stick where it touched the edge of the water, a means to measure how quickly it was going up or would go down.  It seemed like it would go up for a while with all the rainfall but supposedly summer would come around and the water would shrink.  It wasn’t a doubt of a process he’d already seen the prior year but just a desire to more closely observe.  There had to be something to be gained in this knowledge, right?
