Maki didn't know much about the world at large, what people were really like. Her stories had villains of course, but were ultimately foils for the protagonists to overcome. A hurdle to skirt around or step over, a problem for sure but not the main focus of her little mind narratives. Bad boys and antagonists could always been redeemed, there was always some good in there her characters could draw out. Loved heals, I can fix him vibes aplenty. She was as naive as she was soft, a sucker for happy endings and fluff. Angst and hurt and comfort were good, but ultimately she loved love. It was her thing, romance and sappiness, something she wanted to experience outside of her stories, if only she knew how.

She picked her way across the shore of the fjord, overturning stones and shells she found with a delicate flick of her paw. A sweet little ditty drifting from her maw, closer to a hum than a song with outright lyrics. It sounded pretty though, least she thought so.

&thorax.
now the aftermath will ring with songs you've sung
Maybe Thorax had been forced to grow up too fast, because she knew what the world at large was like. She knew sometimes there were no happy endings, and that sometimes the villains won, and to her that was fine. Just as long as said villains left her and her family alone, she'd have no issue with it.

Something in the back of her mind reminds her that her family wouldn't have anything to worry about.

She half-wades her way through the water, eyes glancing towards the depths for any sign of movement every so often. It's not until she breaks her gaze away that she sees the other wolf- does everyone here have horns?- flicking shells throughout the shore.

"What are you doing?" Despite herself, for just a moment, Thorax sounds more confused than anything. The shells are pretty, sure, but she can't see herself caring that much about them.

It's not like they'd do anything, after all.

Maki turned, letting out an undignified huh. She wasn't the best at keeping her wits about her, it seemed as she truly hadn't heard the stranger approach. One moment she'd been alone, lost in her own thoughts and the next she was being asked a question, a reasonable enough one all things considered. Still, it felt quite self-explanatory to Maki, especially as she flipped over a hefty stone to look at the lines the water had etched into its surface. Rugged by the elements and passage of time.

"Just lookin.'" She admitted with a shrug, using the momentum to push the rock she'd found to the side. "How about you?" From scent alone she'd noticed a group of wolves had been loitering in these parts as of late, was she part of their band? She'd always liked the idea, it sounded adventurous, going wherever the wind and their itchy paws took them.
