Hopeless Wanderer

Aurelia meandered along the shores of the glimmering lake, her paws sinking into the soft, damp earth with each step. The water lapped gently at the shore, reflecting the golden hues of autumn foliage that surrounded it. As she walked, Aurelia noticed how the lake's borders seemed to have shifted the passing season, a constant dance between land and water. In these early days of autumn, the lake's waters had receded, exposing muddy banks that promised an abundance of fish and forage for those willing to seek it out.
Aurelia breathed in deeply, relishing the crisp, refreshing air that washed over her. The gentle breeze carried with it the earthy scent of the nearby lake and the rich aroma of the surrounding foliage. She had no particular goal in mind as she wandered, content to simply explore and take in the beauty of her surroundings. As she meandered, her senses were on high alert, attuned to any hints of life. In the stillness, she could hear the faint rustle of leaves and the distant chirping of birds. Her steps were deliberate and graceful, as if she were dancing through the landscape. Every movement held a sense of purpose, but there was no rush in her pace. The sun filtered through the canopy above, casting dappled shadows across her path. She took in every detail, from the vibrant wildflowers peeking through the grass to the delicate fluttering of butterfly wings. For her, even in the quietest of places, there was always something waiting to be discovered.

The moor was beautiful in its own right but Elysia needed a fresh scenery. One that was new to her. And so she’d venture out of the fog in an attempt to find something to do. She was bored, and until the band moved up in the world to pack status. She felt obligated to stay close by. So her travels didn’t take her far from their current residence.
Paws delicately carried her from solid terrain to that of soft mushy mud. Each step she took made an audible squelching sound as she moved closer to the edge of the bank. Looking down at the water that had clearly receded with the changing of the season she let out a sigh.
She stared at the muddy ground debating if it was still warm enough for a swim. And then the thought of scald popped into her head. She had bumped into him again by chance just last season. Her pretty pirate boy. Who had swam with her. Her first “friend” if you could call him that.
Her tail flickered with satisfaction as the memory of the day she’d met scald played in her head. Until the sound of footsteps pulled her from her thoughts. Purple and blue eyes scanned the area around her until she spotted the person who’d interrupted her memory.
And there stood a body of gray, silver and blue. Melting together like the aurora and moon. “What’s a lovely face like that doing in a place like this?” she called towards the stranger.

The voice broke through Aurelia's quiet reverie, pulling her attention away from the tranquil surroundings of the lake. She turned to see another wolf approaching, her fur a mesmerizing blend of gray, silver, and blue, reminiscent of the aurora in the night sky. The stranger's words were playful, a light-hearted greeting that sparked a smile on Aurelia's face.
A gentle smile graced Aurelia's features as she met Elysia's gaze, her sapphire eyes reflecting the colors of the sky. "Just enjoying the solace I suppose," she replied, her voice carrying a soft, melodic tone. "I could ask you the same thing," she replied in a suggestively playful way. "I'm Aurelia … and you?” She tilted her head slightly, studying the other wolf with genuine interest. She recognized the other fae, had seen her around the band. But had never talked to her individually. There was something about her that sparked Aurelia's curiosity, a sense of adventure and boldness that she found intriguing.

As Ely drew closer to the woman she realized she recognized her, vaguely. She’d seen her only once until now, back when she’d first joined sephrian. She’d been there at the meeting. But she’d never spoken to her until now. And already she was better company than some of her cousins. She stopped a respectable distance as the woman countered her question. Which only brought a smile to Elysia’s face.
Shrugging gently she looked back around the lake. ”Needed a change in scenery, the moor has its own unique appeal but after a while…” she paused looking back at the woman. “it grows a bit stuffy, if you catch my drift” she teased. She loved the syndicate. Well most of the members. But at times she needed her space from them all.
Aurelia. That was her name. And it was fitting. She looked like the Aurora. And had a name just as beautiful as she was. ”Im Elysia, But you can call me Ely” she offered. There was no need for formalities with someone who was a part of her home.
“Care for some company?” she wasn’t like some in her family. She’d ask first, she didn’t care to interrupt someone’s alone time unless they wished for her to join. But maybe that was from growing up with siblings. She understood wanting quiet time.

Aurelia couldn't help but feel drawn to Elysia's warm smile and welcoming aura. The other fae exuded an easygoing nature that immediately put her at ease. Nodding in understanding, Aurelia could empathize with the need for a change in scenery, having felt the same way herself countless times before as of late. Space was a very necessary part of maintaining her sanity with the hedonistic lot she had fallen in with. And she wouldn’t feel guilty for seeking it out.
"It's a pleasure to officially meet you, Ely," Aurelia replied lightly, the nickname rolling off her tongue with ease. "And I couldn't agree more about needing a change of scenery. Sometimes, a new perspective can do wonders." She paused for a moment, considering Elysia's offer of company, but she was quick to offer a casual shrug. “You’re welcome to stay as long as you like.” She answered, allowing her own grin to brighten her expression.

Elysia could help but feel calm in the presence of Aurelia. She had this aura about her. And it didn’t surprise her why sephrian kept her around. She was soothing to be near. ”The pleasure is all mine, I assure you” she mused, sending a playful wink in Aurelia’s direction.
Elysia didn’t have very many friends. In fact her only genuine friend at this point was, well, Absinth. So being her felt nice. Unlike anything she was used to. Her mother would come unhinged if she saw this side of her.
”It makes being cooped up around them all tolerable” she laughed. She loved them all, but the toxicity of her family’s need to always be the better wolf present got tiring after a while. Even as a child she’d needed breaks from it. That’s why she was grateful to have Ezekiel. He had always been her rock.
She was pleased that she hadn’t been turned away. Relaxing a bit she continued to study Aurelia. ”Then I shall stay, not to be nosey. But your unlike my cousins. How did you get lumped in with our band?” she tilted her head. It wasn’t a bad thing at all. In face Aurelia seemed like a breath of fresh air. And her family could certainly use that. Especially with tensions rising daily.
