Come down, come down sweet reverence
Jynn settled near the edge of the lake with a number of rivercane poles and grape vines for making a fish snare. Sævor had told her of the process and she was intrigued to give it a try. Fishing took a lot of patience and some days she just didn't care to stand there for ages until she got her dinner. Being able to lay a trap and come back later would be a very useful skill.
She stuck the river cane poles in a circle in the ground to create a frame for her to weave the grapevine around. Using her paws and her teeth she started weaving at the base, carefully coordinating the strands. While it would take awhile to build the basket her hope was that it could be reused.

Marrow
Marrow settled down in the western portion of Boreas where the weather was still warm. She had no problem with the cold but the coming of winter would mean a more difficult time finding prey, especially the smaller prey that Marrow relied on to keep herself fed until she reconnected with Wendigo. She scooted along the border of the lake, considering if fishing would yield her a decent lunch and then she noticed Jynn. Her ears perked up at seeing the maned wolf, especially doing something so interesting with the reeds. She wandered over. "Hello! What are you doing? Please tell me its food related, I'd love to help. She pawed at some of the reeds, examining them.

Jynn heard Marrow coming and looked up to the girl with a smile. She released the reed she'd been weaving, holding it in place with her teeth. "Making a basket trap for fish. You're welcome to join me. I have plenty of reeds." She gestured with her head to the spare materials then continued working on her project. Jynn continued weaving the vines in and out. Then it occurred to her the process might go faster if they worked together. "Actually, if you can take over weaving on this basket I'll get started on the second, smaller basket. These are a special kind my companion has told me about. We'll need both a big basket to hold them and a smaller one to funnel them inside and make it harder for them to get out." Jynn released the vine she was working on and stepped back so that Marrow could take over.
Jynn set a few more shorter stands of cane into the ground. This time she tried starting at the top with the grapevine, tying everything together while leaving some of the cane exposed for sharpening later. She then started weaving.

Marrow
Marrow grinned and eagerly took over. it took her a few moments to figure out how to place her paws and teeth in order to take over the weaving. However, once she got into a rhythm she started to work quickly. The thought of having a basket to catch tasty fishes was delightful. After they made this one maybe they could make another tomorrow for Marrow to keep. This made her think a little of the squirrel trap she'd made with Ghoul. Maybe she could ask Jynn about other kinds of traps. She wanted to figure out a trap for some bigger animals to. In the mean time though she just focused on her weaving. At one point though she needed to pause, stretching out her jaw a bit to give herself a break.

Jynn continued her weaving until the smaller basket was done. Once it was she returned to the top of the basket where the exposed tines had been left. Carefully using her teeth she shredded the sticks to make fine points. It would be easy for fish to get in but hard for them to get out and past the tines. Not impossible of course, but difficult enough that they should get at least a few in the trap. Jynn gently lifted the basket off the ground, pulling out the sugar cane tines that had held it in place while she wove. She worked to bend these back in toward the larger opening. Again to make it easier for a fish to swim in without injury but more difficult for it to swim out.
"It's time to assemble the full basket. Are you ready? I will place the smaller basket at the opening of the larger one and we'll tie it in place. We'll then thread the bait through and we can find a place in the lake to set the trap."

Marrow
Marrow continued her weaving, working smaller and smaller until she reached the end. Now came the tricky part. Holding her paws on top she twisted her head, tying off the reeds and chewing off the extra. Jynn finished the small basket and asked if she was ready. Marrow quickly nodded, looking rather strange with her mouth stretched open to ease the muscles. "Yes, let's get some fish! Where are we going to put the basket?" Marrow pulled the larger basket out of the ground and set it down at Jynn's feet. She was pleased with the work she'd done, especially with it being her first time making a basket.

Jynn finished tying the baskets together, checking that the opening was sizeable enough to get some decent fish. To small and they'd only lure in tiny fish, too large and they'd let medium-sized and smaller fish swim free. This one looked to be a good size. Jynn held the basket still as her companion threaded the bait stick down inside, threaded with juicy worms.
She smiled at Marrow. "Follow me!" Picking the trap up delicately in her jaws she maneuvered to the edge of the water, stepping out into it and swimming a short ways before dropping the trap into the water. She had one long grapevine tied to part of the trap which she carried with her back to shore. She didn't want the currents or some larger creature to make off with their snare. Once back on dry land she shook out her coat. "Ok, so now we either way or we try to startle the fish and hope some will swim in looking for shelter."

Marrow
Marrow followed Jynn out to the edge of the lake and went into the water to see where the older woman placed the trap. She noticed that Jynn placed it a little ways out but not clear in the middle. She also noted the long grapevine that was acting as a tether. Once the pair were back on land Marrow shook out her coat and grinned at Jynn. "While a nap would be nice I think it would be fun to go swimming!" It was a reasonably nice day out. They might as well take advantage of it before winter fully moved into Boreas. With a grin Marrow strolled down the shore then took a flying leap into the water. She had the sense to try and scare fish by splashing in areas of the lake away from the trap instead of near it.

Jynn settled in to wait while Marrow leapt in to startle the fish. At seeing the fun the younger girl was having she decided what the heck she might as well join her. While Jynn usually preferred to stay dry she didn't mind swimming that much. Jynn sized up her jump then raced toward the edge of the water, taking a giant leap and landing the water with a splash. She let out a laugh and peered into the water. She spied movement swimming away from them but it was hard to see specifics. The water was neither clear nor murky so she could only make out a few. Jynn bounded through the water toward Marrow.

Marrow
Marrow barked happily as Jynn joined her. This was so much fun. She bounded deeper into the lake until her feet stopped hitting the bottom. paddling she circled around the lake seeking to scare any fish that were around the edges over toward their trap. She took a moment then circled back. "Think we've scared enough over yet?" She paddled back over to where she had the ground beneath her feet and waited to hear what the older woman would say. Hopefully they had enough for a decent meal. Marrow didn't need enough to preserve, just enough to eat for right now. She still needed to come up with a good way to transport her preserved food.

Jynn spied a flash heading for the basket but she waited a bit longer, wanting to be sure they had a fish or few before disturbing the water closer in and possibly scaring the fish away from their snare. "Just a little bit longer." She paddled about, following Marrow's course but closer in to shore hoping to maximize the amount of fish startled.
Soon it was time to see what they caught. Taking hold of the vine she started to lure the trap in, pausing when she started getting close to the weeds. Wary of risking damage to the snare she waded out into the weeds and cattails, grabbing the basket in her jaws and carefully lifting it up. The water drained out and she could hear the flopping of fish. Grinning she took the snare back to shore. With her companion's help they unfastened the smaller basket and removed it to reveal a number of bluegill and pan fish flopping in the larger basket. "Success! Let's eat."

Marrow
Marrow barked happily when Jynn finally said it was time to reel the basket in and see how many fish they got. She swam back to shore, slowly walking her way up onto the shore before shaking out her coat. She'd paddled so aggressively it was starting to make her arms sore. She watched as Jynn disassembled the basket and peeking into it she saw the flopping fishies. Yum! Marrow's head darted in, snagging a bluegill and bounding off with it to eat before Jynn could stop her. Not that she thought Jynn wouldn’t share, she just couldn’t help herself but to grab the food and start eating immediately.
