Far Afield

It wasn't often she left the lands during the busy times, but winter was something of a down time for farming. Sure, there was plenty to do between crafting trade goods and supplementing the diet of the sheep with grain and hay daily, but there was a slower tempo to the rhythm of life. No frantic nights awake with the lambing ewes, no long days collecting hay and grains to store, no sheering and butchering and salting and stretching hides. She hoped to get more trading done this year with the goods from the previous years and would eventually be heading out to the various packs again to see what she could procure in that way, but for now she just relished the chance to stretch her legs and wander further afield than usual. The change from nomad to homebody had come surprisingly easy for her when she'd made Avalon, but she was still occasionally struck with a restless feeling like she should have been moving, a feeling that she normally buried beneath her work but now was happy to expend in doing longer patrols in preparation for actually leaving Avalon for her trade route. Pausing on the crest of one of the barrows, she breathed deeply and settled for a moment to observe around her, watching the buffalo move through the valleys and keeping an eye out for predators that could be making their way towards Avalon's border.
