Time is a Heck of a Thing

Talyssa paused as she reached the crumbled base of a ridge, her gaze wandering over the skeletal remains of an ancient beast that lay scattered before her. “It’s impossible for us to know how much time has passed. All we can do is infer based on what we have seen for ourselves. What happens to the bones of our prey whenever they ar discarded, and apply that logic to a greater scale of the world.” A sense of reverence filled her as she took in the enormity of the creature's size, even in its fragmented, fossil state. "We don’t know what these creatures called themselves- and of course, their tale is ended to be able to ask them- but ours is ongoing." Her voice was a breath of wind that swept over the crest of the ridge, carrying with it a potent mix of curiosity and empathy. "And so, we must learn from them, honor their memory, and recognize that even after we are long gone, our story will continue, too. In bones, in the land, in the memories of those who come after us."

Identification listened, pondering for moments. As eyes turned towards the others, listening to everyone's voices, well those that spoke anyway. Wanting to know more. Maybe even be able to speak to the cream, brown and white woman. She seemed wise and know of the history. It caused Fic's ears to swivel forwards. She sat there, becoming silent, eyes of emerald flashing to the others every now and again. Wondering as her paws rubbed against the dirt, causing that of a bone to appear. A bone that was larger than her. Her nose went to the ground, the scent drifted from it was of dirt. A quick sneeze, as if some dust particles tickled her nostrils.

Korona listened intently to Talyssa's words, her eyes fixed on the ancient bones before them. She could feel the weight of the topic, though her understanding was only that of the child she was. The enormity of the creature's size, even in its broken state, filled her with awe.
As Talyssa spoke of learning from the past and honoring the memory of those who came before, Korona's brows quirked with understanding. She’d like to be remembered, too!
She absorbed every word of Talyssa's message, feeling a great amount of respect for the creatures who once roamed these lands, and damn they must have looked really cool, huh?

Revenant ribbed Quill about settling down with Talyssa and the marbled giant gave a little noncommittal grunt. If settling down was what Tal wanted, then that's what they would do. Until then, he was content to travel the continent as they had been. He was content to listen to her lessons and watch as she inspired the world around her. Wolves flocked to Talyssa Carpathius to hear her views of the world. Views such as the obscure history of the land upon which their paws sat. The golden woman spoke of the world remembering their history and Quill vowed that he would force the world to remember hers. "Quill"

Eltrys looked at the bones as he listened to the tawny woman. Did these creatures have anything on the earth that remembered them? Or are they simply just bones now? Nothing else to know them by current minds? It made him think about what it means to be remembered and humbled that perhaps it wasn't as complicated as the teacher was suggesting. To honor the memory of someone was to remember them as living, no one around now would know how to honor these beasts. They all became dust and bones in the end.
He got up, he didn't add to the conversation, but he appreciated it nonetheless. He dipped his head respectfully to the teacher and began herding his young charge back home. She was already a fountain of questions.

Their teacher's lesson grew quite philosophical at the end as she spoke of the impossibility of knowing how long had passed or what these creatures had called themselves. She did understand how that much time could make the knowledge and history of things fade away without someone ready to pass that information along, but it was probably the first time that the reality of mortality had really occurred to her like this. At first she didn't really know how they were supposed to learn from creatures that were long gone, but as Talyssa spoke about the remnants they would all leave behind she thought that she began to understand. Maybe it was their job to live in a way now that their impact on the world would live on after they were gone. She hummed thoughtfully and quietly thanked Talyssa for the lecture before slipping away to head back toward the Hallows with a lot of new thoughts to work through.

The lesson had started as something super interesting and cool with the examination of these massive bones and wondering about their existence, but in the end it became a metaphor of some kind and the young pup quickly lost interest. She sighed a bit and frowned. Adults were always so serious about things! Ah well, she got to see some cool bones and learn about how unbelievably old the world really was so it wasn't a loss. Maybe she could convince her father to bring them out here again before they left so she could get a better look at the biiiiig bones that poked out of the ground all over the place out here. Since it looked like the lesson was all done she started following the wolves that were going back to The Hallows so she could find her dad before he realized she was gone and she got in trouble.

She listened to everything the teacher had offered for them all. Her mind full of questions, maybe she would wander over towards Talyssa. And ask her if she had anymore knowledge of different subjects, but she would await for another time. Ears perked forwards. Eyes glance towards Eltrys a chocolate wolf she had meant before with a new younger one that followed behind him. Offering each of them a nod, doing the same to the darker woman Iris. Her attention pulling her back to her current state, enjoying the moment as she curled down onto the terrian and wondered who was all buried here within Fossil Ridge, she'd stay and wonder for a little while before rising up and taking her leave.

Quill moved away from him, gruff as ever, and Revenant simply snickered and rolled his eyes. He’d have to catch up with his brother and his new “girlfriend” at a later time. For now, the Klein prince simply took in the fossilized skeletons around him, listening while the young woman spoke of memory and history and learning from it. Rev couldn’t help the scoff under his breath. Yeah, if only their father had learned from history. It usually had a way of repeating itself, so did they ever truly learn anything from history, or were they all doomed to continue in an endless cycle? All that mattered to Revenant was the future. The past was gone for a reason. The only thing that remained was what they had yet to do—and the control they could have over their own destinies. Still, the girl was a good speaker, so he gave her a little applause as she concluded her lesson. He looked forward to finding out more about her and what influence she held over his brother.
