Xurek did not enjoy Asa bringing them closer to the danger, but he would also not stop her either. She was her own horse and could do as she pleased. He would follow dutifully as always, wherever she went to ensure that nothing insidious happened to her. Moving south across the land bridge into Auster and then west toward the Shimmering Shore, Xurek reveled in the beauty of this landscape. While Boreas was full of rolling hills and lush valleys, Auster was flatter and spoke of olden times. Xurek could feel it when he walked over the lands, could see it when they went through Fossil ridge, this place had been here awhile.

He tried to ignore the tremors as they walked, but that was rather difficult when the force of them sometimes shook even his sturdy legs. From the appearance of more wolves in this area, he wondered if this was a place that was different. Different like the new territory that had risen from nowhere up in Boreas. "The ground here seems different," Xurex breaks their companionable silence as his hoof digs at one of the channels that snaked between the shore and ridge.
