You can own the earth and still

All you own is earth until

Dawn was perhaps the young huntress's preferred time to hunt. The independent girl made her way out of her den, faint sunlight beginning to trickle over the sky. The days were slowly becoming shorter and soon the season of rain and cold nights would soon be upon the Tribe. As a spiritual character, the bronze girl found beauty and color in every season, rain or drought.

The small she-wolf lumbered through the thick plains, her nose taking in the scents that surrounded her. The sun rose quickly behind her, the sky becoming a grey blue hue. Apart from grass, the smell of rabbit was strong. She slowed her pace, carefully placing each paw silently with grace. Rabbits were not usually out in the low light, unless they were hidden in their dens. A plan would begin to form in her mind as her hazel eyes spotted the perfect rabbit burrow. The scent was overpowering, reminding her how hungry she was. As any hunter would, she pushed the thoughts of hunger away and focused her concentration on the rabbit. The creature appeared to be inside in its hole. That was no help, but she would await silently in a crouched position. Muscles tensed, eyes narrowed, tail as still as it could be. It was not long until a shaggy grey head poked out of the darkness, its body soon following behind. The rabbit was a few tail lengths away from its den and without wasting any moments, the girl sprung, teeth swiftly meeting the rabbit's neck. She held the creature's life in her jaws and with hesitation she finally heard a crunch, her prey going limp without life. The girl dropped the rabbit on the grass beside her, opening her maw to speak different words.

"I sorry to take life. Food, tribe must have." She spoke solemnly before returning with her prey. It was a tongue that her tribe mates did not speak often, but she held interest in learning another language. It sounded strange and half the time she couldn't understand what she was saying. What wolves used that odd tongue? She wanted to ask them to teach her how to speak it but the Tribe were the only wolves in these lands, right?

Whilst some had plans for the day, Al?wo simply intended upon sticking to her usual routine of seeking solitude. Still she tried so very little with the members of the tribe, they would brush aside her lack of interest simply as a struggle to adjust and still some of them would continue to disturb her moments of peace and quiet. How long such awkward routines would continue for she had no idea though certainly hoped they would leave her alone soon enough. They had sent her father away from her only shortly after the loss of her mother and sister, she most certainly needed time to herself not them crowding her.

Funnily enough however it would not be her peace disturbed that morning however, though the dark girl would find herself walking across the path of another. As with many of the Tahtla wolves, she could put no name to the face and perhaps would have simply continued onwards on her own had she not heard the strange words spilling from the other woman's mouth. Al?wo had only ever conversed in their native tongue, had never heard a single English word. This was odd, odd enough that she would abandon her ways and be forced to question what on earth this wolf was doing.

"K? ni o kan ti o sọ?" She would question as she ventured into view of the other. Al?wo would watch her with a somewhat wary gaze. Those words were of a different tongue. Why was she speaking it? How had she learnt it? "Ti ede ... o ni ko tiwa.

She had not expected to come across another tribe member on this early morning. She did not know many faces of the Tahtla, perhaps just her siblings and deceased parents. Most of the members were much older, wiser and experienced than she was. But that didn't mean she didn't like unfamiliar strangers, in fact, this other ebony female looked around her age. Like her usual calm and relaxed self, the huntress beamed a small smile to the other wolf after dropping her freshly caught rabbit by her earth toned paws. The language that this wolf spoke was definitely more familiar and preferable than the other tongue she had used earlier. The young huntress was expecting the question on how she had come across that language, and she would reply gently, nature's grace easing her lyrics.

"Mo ti a ti wipe bi mo ti nilo lati ya awọn aye ti ti eda fun wa ẹy? lati yọ ninu ewu," Even though she was barely four seasons old, there was maturity and elegance in her voice. "Emi ko mo ti o soro yi ahọn sugbon mo fẹ lati ko o."

Translations:

"I was saying how I needed to take the life of that creature for our tribe to survive."

"I don't know who speaks this tongue but I want to learn it."

If Imala thought herself as somewhat out of place amongst the Tahtla, a stranger in the midst of the tribe, it was nothing in comparison to the way Al?wo felt. At least she had grown up amongst them, not suddenly planted here amongst them all. Sadly that was the way the girl would view it, some sort of competition in isolation, none here were allies or equals to her. Fortunately for now any similarities would not appear and instead the brown female would go on to explain her words, now speaking in the familiar tongue that Al?wo knew.

The first detail didn't really matter so much. As it stood she cared little what the other had said but it was more the language she had used to say it in. It was strange. There was little other way to describe it. And it was unknown, even the girl speaking it had no idea where it originated from, who used such an odd language to converse. How could she be sure she wasn't simply making up things then, and more importantly why on earth did she have the desire to learn something as useless as this foreign tongue. "K? n?d??" She questioned. "Idi ti yoo ti o fẹ lati sọ ede kan nigba ti o ni ko si ọkan lati sọrọ ti o pẹlu? O ti wa ni kan egbin ti akoko ati ajeji kan ti egbin ti o ju." What would the Goddess say to such things?

Why? Out of all the possible questions the ebony female could have asked, she had to question why she spoke another language. Her following words were almost taken as an insult or scold. She told her inner spirit to calm down and reply without irritation. Although the other dame did have a point, what other creatures still used that language? She and the tribe were the only wolves inhabiting the lands. But what if?

"Boya ohun ti mo le pade awọn wolves ti o si tun lo o, nibikibi ti won ba wa," She would sternly reply, keeping her tone serious. It sounded silly and ridiculous. There weren't any other wolves, were there? She finished with a carefree shrug. "Emi ko ri ohun ti ko tọ si pẹlu o."

The young girl could not understand that speaking a foreign language may be considered an offense by the Oracle. Even if the Oracle did not approve of discussing anything unrelated to the Tahtla, the girl still wouldn't be able to comprehend why. Why would a different language be forbidden to speak? Perhaps it was only through consequences she would finally realize what was right and wrong.

Translations:

"Maybe I can meet the wolves who still use it, wherever they are."

"I don't see anything wrong with it."

The question was perfectly valid in Al?wo's mind. She may not have been the most active and she was far from being considered even remotely important and yet even she had her doubts about these strange words this foreign tongue that the female before her wished to speak. Whilst still understanding and following their ways, the Tahtla were foreign enough to her, having spent a year with only her family. For that reason she did not wish any more oddities in her world, unsure if she could trust the wolves around her she certainly didn't trust the idea of yet more wolves out their, ones that spoke in such an odd manner.

"Boya o yẹ ki o gba kan ti o le wo ki o si." She had not and would not raise her voice through this, though Al?wo's tone remained serious. "Ti o ba ti awọn miran jade nibẹ ni o wa nibẹ, Mo nseyemeji ti won le wa ni gbẹkẹ." She would speak her honest opinion now for the first time. It was one she knew others in the tribe felt as well and though it was strange to agree with them, she couldn't help but feel it was therefore a very important coincidence. "Wọn ti wa ni kan irokeke." Whether they intended to be or not, whether they used violence or not, they still were a potential problem to the lives of the Tahtla wolves.

Foreign wolves a threat? What would they do if they did arrive here? Raid the tribe? She saw the other woman's point of view but perhaps her mind could not picture the worst scenarios that could happen. An assassination of the Oracle, slavery of the youngest tribe members, can wolves really do that? She had grown up with beliefs that every creature was somehow connected and each one is meant to be treated equally and fairly. Yet there could be wolves committing horrible crimes. Were they meant to be left alone, untrusted and separated from the tribe?

"Mo ye rẹ ojuami ati ibakcdun," She spoke once more, trying to match the other's seriousness. She made her tone polite, even if it sounded like she was arguing or back chatting. She was merely searching for another opinion that wasn't her own. "Sugbon ohun ti yoo ṣẹlẹ ti o ba ti awọn wolves ṣe de?"

If this was a problem, she was desperate to find a solution. Somehow, wolves could not peacefully live together in harmony with acceptance of their different cultures like the ways of the birds and the trees. Everything seemed to be growing into a challenge.

Translations:

"I understand your point and concern. But what could happen if these wolves did arrive?"

Al?wo on the other hand had grown to see that the world wasn't quite so fair. Others truly could change your lives for the worse. These were wolves that shared a belief system and were meant to be loyal to one and other. What on earth would these mysterious unknown wolves do? The rumours of the outsiders were not full of excitement but full of fear instead and Al?wo was fully on the side of the more nervous Tahtla members there. This wolf was the first she had seen expressing an interest in them and truth be told she couldn't help but feel fearful for the other girl and for the tribe as well.

What could happen if they came here? "Ohunkohun." She responded bluntly. Truth be told no one really had any idea what would happen perhaps that was why the real fear existed. They really knew nothing about these wolves. They perhaps wouldn't be a threat at all though many of the Tahtla were expecting the worst and she was guilty of trying to force these negative expectations upon others as well. "Wọn ti wa ni ko fẹ wa. Ohunkohun le ṣẹlẹ." Her tone grave as she spoke, clearly expecting this 'anything' to be no good for their world.

Anything was a big word with infinite possibilities. If these wolves could bring harm to the Tahtla, they could also bring good to the tribe. That was a possibility, was it not? Why were they both looking on the negative side of this situations if there was a slight chance there could be harmony between the two cultures? Instead of violence, there could be peace within them. They could trade, share training lessons and attend meetings together. How great would that be? It would surely deliver benefits.

And yet that may not be the case. It could be opposite that she feared of becoming reality. She just had to hold her breath and hope for the best.

She let a sigh as she seated herself on her haunches, her hazel eyes looking up to the faint blue sky thickly dusted with grey clouds. Her gaze soon met the other female's optics.

"Mo ti o kan lero awọn ẹya jẹ nigbagbogbo ailewu." She softly wished, hoping any ancestral being heard her call.

Translations:

"I just hope the tribe is always safe."

Yes there were a lot of possibilities, wonderful ones could be included perhaps they could all live happily together as the optimistic girl before her so naively believed though doom and gloom was reigning in Aláwo's darkened thoughts, when had changed in her life been for the better? No, she was about due for something to go terribly wrong and why not with a bunch of foreign wolves invading the lands?

It was rather obvious that neither were going to come to a happy agreement on this matter. The two opposing opinions and ideas on these strangers were simply too different and neither girl seemed ready to budge on the matter. The brown girl would be the first to try steer away from the topic though even her new words didn't represent a view that Aláwo shared though this time she was wiser than to simply admit she cared little.

How could she care for these wolves that hadn't done anything good for her. Yes there were some trying to make an effort with the isolated girl but it simply wouldn't ever redeem them in her eyes. No she didn't exactly wish for them to all go and die for some reason or another, nor did she really want these invaders harming them. She simply didn't have the same passion that Imala carried forth now.

"Bẹẹni, ailewu. Wọn yio jẹ kuro lati wọn." It was the best she could muster really. Nothing particularly betraying about her lack of loyalty at all though perhaps if one read deeper into the use of 'they' rather than 'we' the conclusion may have been the simple truth that she still felt out of place within the tribe.

The ebony woman brought some assurance to her questioning mind, which allowed her thoughts to be less perplexed. She understood how this topic could be a troubling subject. She needed to steer this conversation away from the negative thoughts of the foreign wolves. They have spoken far too long on it and it was perhaps best to leave it calmly. She acknowledged the other female with a polite nod before rising to her paws. She had gained some input on this topic and whether it changed her own opinions was just a matter of time. For now, it was best to take a break from this particular heading and find something else enjoyable.

"Daradara, lati ya ọkàn wa ni pipa yi , iwọ yoo fẹ lati lọ si lori kan rin pẹlu mi?" She wasn't the best at changing subjects and activities, but it would have to do. This was only, of course, if she was interested in a walk. If she had things to do and places to be, the huntress was more than alright with a brief introduction as a finish to their chat.

Translations:

"Well, to take our minds off this, would you like to go on a walk with me?"
