Walk | Talk | Think

The last of the storm clouds had at last tapered away and with them went the only thing keeping Callisto within the Red Forest that had become her new home. Or, in actuality, her old home. She had always supposed herself to be more attached to the old forest as opposed to the mangrove field her odd family had moved into after the loss of their home. Being back should have pleased her, should have made her satisfied and content. Instead all she felt was a bizarre strangeness and confusion.

Rather than deal with it, the spindly black and grey youth made it a point to leave as often as she could, undergoing an unconscious search for a place where she felt comfortable and content. Nothing so far near home had been appealing to her and so her ventures were bringing her further away, but, as she figured, if she kept searching long enough she was bound to come across some place that fit what she wanted, right?

It was this subconscious mission that brought her to the edge of the gorge, the pup's silvery blue eyes squinting as she peered downward into it. From where she was it seemed nice, plenty of short, green vegetation rustling under the inconsistent pressures of the wind. A little touch of color captured the girl's attention as she stared, pink and white against the dusty green. A flowering plant? Something for fragrance or perhaps something with another more important purpose? Endlessly curious when it came to plants and potential herbs to add to her small arsenal, Callisto wasted no more time beginning the slow and careful trek from the edge to where the plant grew, some distance away and down the side of the gorge.

The youth had never been to the North lands before. But after his trip to the Eastern part and running into someone he never thought he would see again, he decided to head further North rather then return to his beach cove in the South. He knew that if he had returned after that, he would have not come out for a long while. And truth be told, it felt a little better to be outside in the sun. It had been a couple seasons since he traveled, and a stretch for his legs and muscles would do him some good. He walked along a gorge, careful of the placement of his steps. He didn't fancy falling or getting stuck somewhere, so he was aware and mindful today.

There was a narrow gap that he came across, the boy stopping to glance down and think on whether he should attempt to go down and walk along the bottom of the gorge or remain above. The more he thought, the more the first option seemed appealing. He didn't really want someone else to run into him. And who would happen across him at the bottom of a gorge? Turning course, he made his way down the path. Paws sliding, rump falling back as he slipped onto his haunches and sliding down the whole way, claws scraping on the rock surface as he tried to slow. He was going much too fast for his liking, and he was just picking up more speed.

Before he knew it, he flew forward when he had tried to use his front legs as brakes. The male falling head first the rest of the way, rolling and tumbling against rock until finally, he came to a stop on the ground with a loud thud and a heap of fur. He groaned, body aching and throbbing with what he had just endured. Slowly, eyes opened as he tried to clear his head, his body slowly picking himself up into a sitting position. He felt dizzy, that certainly wasn't the way he wanted to get down but...at least he was here. He sat there for a while, trying to let his head clear. His left foreleg aching with a dull throb.
