Sephiroth

Retracing his familiar routes again for the upteenth time, Sephiroth had subconsciously made a narrow path from his den near the usual meeting place, to his other den at the bluff overlooking the shores towards the mainland. Never did he leave that particular area out of his sights long, unsure as to whether or not the threat of their enemy was really over. He hoped so though, and with his constant patrolling and overlooking every side of the island, they would not be missed should they try to invade. He had keen eyes, and from the spot where his den was facing out towards the water, he could always keep an eye on it. He slept little nowadays, and sometimes it showed when the tiredness in his eyes and sometimes in the way he would be sluggish in his attempts when hunting.

Ever since they had arrived, Sephiroth took little time for himself. He had not really associated with anyone as most of his time was spent ensuring no ambushes or invasions were present. Let alone the one person that had initially led him to Valhalla without realization. If not for her, he would not be here so dedicated and devoted to his work and pack. He felt bad, for not being able to really speak or spend any time with Seraphine...He remembered to the time they had first met, he had been somewhat detached but somehow, her questions had brought him out from his closed mind. She had been curious about his bangles, and he began to wonder why he still wore them. But all he could think, was the same thing that he had told her then. They were reminders.

ooc: she is in the trees just a few feet behind seph

She would move through the forest silently, head held level with her shoulders, ears laying flat against her head. A limp would be in her step, the result of not paying attention to her new surroundings when going after a pig. The animal had been hanging around a small rock garden towards the southern end of the island, a place she found herself lingering around the most. Seraphine had been quite distant for some time now, especially when the pack had moved to the island. She didn't really understand why, ever since she was a pup the yearling wanted to make herself something, make a difference... and here she was, slipping into depression, making no effort to interact with others.

The large, scarred woman would finally come to a stop after walking non-stop for an hour. Leaning against a tree, lifting her left foreleg off the ground to give it a slow stretch. She would give a roll of her eyes, setting it back down gently. All the walking was starting to bother her, causing a pain in her joint.

Sephiroth

A near inaudible sigh swept past his lips. Sephiroth's lids were growing somewhat heavy, weariness etching themselves into his bones. He was pushing himself too hard, though he would never admit it. His thoughts were to always put others before himself, and that's what he would do. He turned around in his course, making his way back to his den on the bluff when a familiar scent caught his attention. Stopping where he stood, he slowly sniffed the air to locate the smell. Slowly he moved forward, senses attentive until he came around the other side of a large tree. Aquamarine eyes located the familiar form. "Seraphine?"

What were the odds? That the very wolf he so wished to see more then ever lately happened to be nearby. He brought himself forward to stand a foot or so in front of her, remembering their last meeting on the borders of Seracia. He had been too nervous to respond to her then when she questioned him. Then again, he wasn't entirely sure what love felt like. So he had tried to keep that suppressed until he knew for sure. But how? He always felt better when she was around, and always wondered what she was thinking as well. Was she mad with him for hiding away? Did she hate him for occupying himself with his duties? He wasn't sure why the thoughts scared him. They just did. And yet, he had never felt or thought things like that before. Perhaps it was the fact that he admired her, her boldness and her bravery. She was quite a catch indeed, unafraid to speak her mind. Something he witnessed before and was unknowingly falling for. It was then, that dual toned eyes glanced briefly at her bothering leg. He could tell when one wasn't well, he had a keen eye from when he supervised training back home. He always had to look after the younger soldiers in training for signs of lameness, torn tendons, and other muscles problems. "You look like you have a lot on your mind." He murmured in a low tone, weariness escaping in his voice without meaning to.

Up and down, she would carefully stretch her leg out. While doing this though she would not hear the sound of footsteps approaching, nor catch the scent of a man she knew. An ear and a half would perk up, swiveling towards the source of a voice that spoke her name. Head would slowly lift, not even having to look at the face to know who it was. She wouldn't meet his gaze though, brows coming together, her gaze falling to Sephiroth's paws, going over his bangles. He would comment on how she looked like something was on her mind, bringing a light sigh from the yearling. "I have plenty on my mind." She answered, voice void of any emotion. She would suddenly groan, holding her leg in place for a few seconds with a tinge of pain etching its way across her face. It would only last a few seconds though before being wiped away, pulling her body away from the tree. "Patrolling, I assume? She would finally look towards him, but her usual friendly gaze was replaced with something cold, distant.

Aqua gaze studied the young female. Ears pulled forward for a brief moment as her words would be said. The fact that she had a lot on her mind was apparent; at least to him. He felt that he was partly to blame, having put his duties before all else was probably a little much. But in truth, he just wanted to make sure that there new home was safe, and most importantly...that Seraphine would be safe. The once friendly girl that Sephiroth had grown attached to showed a different side today. And Sephiroth watched as it began to show. She would not look at him, and the usually detached male couldn't help but feel guilty at his lack of appearance around her.

He would hesitate in stepping forward upon witnessing that her leg indeed, was bothering her. Afraid that perhaps she would turn him away, refuse his assistance. And his assumption would slowly grow as her next set of words sounded harsh. Ears fell back slightly, unsure as to what to do. Slowly he nodded, turning his gaze away and unable to meet hers. "I have been...to ensure our new home is safe..." He murmured. So that you are safe...

"Ensuring our new home is safe..." She would repeat, blue and golden gaze staring off into the distance over the buff. Just thinking about it would cause her claws to dig into the soft earth, gaze narrowing. "I guess that is what Demonio is doing then, ensuring our homes' safety. And Luce, ensuring her childrens' safety... my mother..." Voice picked up, a hiss yet whine. The skin around her muzzle began to wrinkle, lips pulling back, muscles tensing up. Just thinking about everyone else, connecting the dots, figuring out what they all had in common was irritating her further. For a brief moment Seraphine could have sworn she felt her eyes begin to water, but before she would even let the man know she would shake her head and limp past him, stopping a few feet away. "Your embarrassed, aren't you?" She would suddenly ask in a low tone, almost a whisper. She would continue to avoid his gaze, head turning downward to gaze at her paws.

Ears twitched slightly when she responded, though he could tell it wasn't in relief at his efforts. He nodded slowly, jaws opening the slightest bit to respond but he was cut off as she continued. "I guess that is what Demonio is doing then, ensuring our homes' safety. And Luce, ensuring her childrens' safety... my mother..." He flinched slightly, her tone gathering in harshness. Was she comparing him to the others that had left her? Did she really feel that way? His throat felt like it was constricting into a feeling that was foreign to him. Never had he felt it before, even when half his pack had been slaughtered before his very eyes. He had never seen her angry before, nor had he seen her at the verge of seeming like she would snap at any second. The usual jolly and enthusiastic Seraphine he knew, was changing...and he felt it was because of him.

He made no move as she swept past him, simply standing there and staring at the space she had been just before. His suspicions about her leg were right, though he doubted she would let him get close to help her...for now, anyway. But he was not expecting what she had said next..."Your embarrassed, aren't you?" Embarrassed? Did she think he was embarrassed about being around her? Knowing her? Being seen with her because of her injuries? He didn't understand exactly. But there was a reason she had said it, he was sure. She had been left behind by so many in the past as far as he was aware, and he had said before that he would not be one of them. He refused to be a ghost of the past. Turning an about face, he approached quickly, closing the gap between them and stood close behind her. "Seraphine...Why would I be embarrassed?"

It was then he chose to move forward. If she so chose to attack him, to take out her frustrations on him, then so be it. He would take it quietly, because he too knew what it was like to be abandoned. Angeal was the only closest thing he had to family, and he had disappeared from home without a word. That had been the only time he felt devastated and abandoned. Alone and unwanted. Until he met her. He faced her, head lowered and his gaze intent upon her form. He had never minded the scars, the burns, the half missing ear nor anything else she deemed ugly. He had been falling for her, and it was because of her that he was here now. And she had to know. "Seraphine...I've never been embarrassed about you...If anything, I envy you for your strength. I wish I was as strong at heart as you are. To be able to pull through so much. And I? I am weak. I couldn't keep my pack from being destroyed, couldn't keep Angeal from leaving, couldn't keep my own comrades safe. For the first time, I felt all alone in the world...until I met you, Seraphine."

Her single good ear would pin back against her head as Seraphine stood there, not moving what so ever even a she felt Sephiroth move in close, asking why he would be embarrassed. Right that moment the young woman wanted to turn at snap at the ma for such a stupid question, wasn't it obvious? She would keep control though, watch as he came around her and stared into her mismatched eyes. He would tell the yearling that he wasn't embarrassed, and that he envied her for her strength. Those would would cause a soft snort to come from her, gaze looking away, brows coming together. He would go on to list why she was strong, and why he was weak... that fr the first time in the world he felt alone... till he met her.

She would rise, standing just as tall as the man now, eyes narrowed on him and a low hiss seeming to pulse from her jaws. "That is not weakness! You could not control those events, you stood no chance on your own. You are strong, you tried to help!" Head would pull back, the muscles beneath her pelt rippling. The girl would turn her body away, chest rising and falling a bit more rapidly, boiling beneath the surface. "Weak people don't get the rank of Beta." Seraphine was happy that he got it, but she was still very irritated that she had barely been able to see him at all since the war.

Eyes would finally close, and she would take in a long and deep breath. "I know my place, where I stand here... I guess you have found it too..." With that the girl would limp off, first moving slowly, carefully over the earth, but within moments it would quicken, the girl jogging off into the forest.
