They sold the cause for the queen

And when the lights all went out

She had found a place where she felt most connected to her ancestors and the Great Goddess. It was along the edge of the falls located in a forest of cedar trees. It was so peaceful that she liked to sit along the cool water and think. The Oracle?s fur of pure white was dry with the exception of her paws being wet in the water. She would close her eyes, focusing on the peaceful scene around her in the hopes of connecting with the Goddess today. She saw flashes of light and heard noises but everything was starting to jumble within her head. Her small form barely cast a shadow on the large falls.

Her eyes flashed open and her head started to ache. She winced slightly at the confusion that she had just been put through. She stood up, looking around as she decided to sit in the water of the falls on the edge. She figured that it might help her figure out what everything meant. Perhaps the howling was referring to the wolves that were constantly calling one another to arms across the water. Was it a warning? Were the wolves calling for them? No. Plenty of wolves from her own tribe howled so perhaps it was a warning from the inside or an omen. Oh why did she have to see everything as a dreary event? No, it could be a random dream. Right? Even Oracles had normal dreams. Not every dream she had was from the Great Goddess.

Oh, but what if this one was? Perhaps she should talk to one of the Elders about it. Perhaps they could help her interpret what had been said and if it was anything at all. Sometimes her responsibilities really got to her mind.

He spent every night outside of her den, sleeping so lightly that at times he was awoken by a breeze, every vigilant and ever on guard. He wasn't usually so dutiful be since her visions of the northern Wolves and since his trip to the land bridge to confirm her vision they had both been robbed of their sleep more often then not. Some nights the sound of her shifting in her den was enough to keep him up but he would never tell her this. This morning she would rise early and depart her den and he would lift himself and fall into step behind her. It was a typical morning, he did not speak unless spoken too and simply followed her with his head near her right hip. Aqua gaze would slip too and fro, moving slowly beside her so he could be mindful of their surroundings. Today she would lead him to the falls and he would pause as she moved forward to settle herself closer to the water. He would stay in the shade, keeping his distance so she could be alone with the goddess.

Despite his physical distance he was ever mindful and watchful of both her and her surroundings. His gaze would constantly switch from the trees surrounding them and every dance of the leaves to her and every twitch other muscles. She would stir more then usual and immediately he would lift himself, concern evident in his gaze as he stepped forward and to her side. "Aika?" He would ask, deep baritone rumbling up his throat as he paused a moment to see if she would dismiss his concerns. It would not be the first time he had been worried over nothing, not be the first time he had interrupted a communion that Ojiṣẹ was having with the goddess but still he would move to her side in concern. "Kili o ṣe ọ ? Ti o ti ko ti orun daradara..." His voice was soft, hushed. Despite his concern for her his gaze would still flitter to their surroundings on occasion. He had been her protector for over a year now, been with her day in and day out and yet he still called her by her title rather then her given name. Habits it seemed...

She looked up when she heard the voice of her guardian and spun to see Skah standing there, asking if she was alright and noting that her sleeping habits had been almost nonexistent. She sighed as she looked at into the water. ?Mo wa itanran Skah. Mo wa o kan fiyesi pẹlu gbogbo awọn ami. O di n soro lati so fun nightmares fun awọn ?mi lati awọn Nla Goddess.? She explained as she stood and walked towards Skah. ?Mo ro pe mo ti ni lati jiroro nkan pẹlu awọn ?gba sugbon mo ti ko mo ti o ba ti mo ti yoo kan sibẹsibẹ. O le ṣe ojurere mi kan?? She hoped that he wouldn?t be opposed to a short time of not being around her so he could go and check something out for her. If the northern wolves were truly invading, they would have to swim or cross the landbridge.

She would look to him and immediately his gaze would drop from her's though he was continue to study her despite his averted gaze. He held his own body relatively relaxed, loose and at ease despite her current state. Ears would remain turned down, a sign of non dominance though he would listen and hang on her every word. She would confirm his suspicions that she was not sleeping well, speaking of the goddess and her nightmares. Did the goddess send visions of terror often enough to mistake nightmares for them? He would not speak his own concerns, for his family and for the tribe, instead he would simply stand beside her and act as a sounding board. He would not speak unless his direct opinion would be asked.

Words would come again a short time after and he would lift his skull suspiciously, a frown knitting his brows together. She had been asking much of him lately. Normally he would not complain but with the northern wolves now able to access their home he felt uneasy about leaving her side ever. She would request a favour and he would bow his own skull deeply enough that maw would brush the ground."Dajudaju Aika . Kini o beere..." His words were soft, almost a whisper against the ground. He would hope that she would not request him to leave but at the same time it was his duty to serve her. How could he say no?

He agreed in a quiet tone. She knew that she was already asking so much from him but hopefully he would not mind this task that she would ask him back. She gulped slightly before starting to form words on her pure white muzzle. ?Mo ti bẹru pe akoko kan ti wa ni bọ sunmọ ibi ti awọn wolves ti o hu nigbagbogbo lati kọja awọn omi yoo ri awọn ilẹ ati ki o Afara kọj? o. Mo fẹ lati wa ni fun nigbati mo kilo awọn ?gba ti o kan ti akoko ti de.? She hoped with all her might that the faithful man would agree to her request. If he didn?t then she would have to go herself which would result in him having to go with her anyways. It was safer if he went alone.

She hated violence and so she did not mind doing what was safer for her. She could imagine the disapproval the Elders might hold if they discovered if she had gone to investigate whether the situation was dangerous or not. She didn?t really care about the Elders approval of things though she did not want to disappoint their high standards. The ivory cloaked female was always confused on which of two scenarios would be better. She had a hopeful look on her eyes as she thought up a plea to him if he were to refuse her of this wish.

He would regard her with a strange caution, something about her body language had him on edge and because of this he would begin to shift his weight, allowing it to transfer from paw to law as he awaited her to collect herself. It wasn't long before she would soeak what was on her mind and immediatly his skull would snap up and he would finally meet her gaze. Was she joking? Well... His brow knit together again as he tried to decipher any hidden meaning in her eyes, studying her intently as he listened to her. He had to go see if they had come yet.

Slowly his mind would work through the options. Did they have any? This could be dangerous but he had already proved himself capable of defending himself. There was no reason for him to deny her request, it was his job to follow her orders and yet. He did not feel comfortable leaving her alone. "Emi o si ṣe bi o ti fẹ Aika . Lori kan majemu . Mi arakunrin Shai yio duro pẹlu nyin, nigbati emi mi kuro." He would state. For one this was not a request, not a negotiation. His gaze was hard as he looked at her before sighing softly and allowing his haunches to fold so he would seat himself.

"Kini o fẹ mi ti Akia? Ṣe o fẹ mi lati ṣe olubasọrọ pẹlu awọn ara Ariwa? Sikaotu wa gan fun wọn lofinda? Lati kọj? awọn ilẹ Afara? Ha ti mo ba pade ọkan ohun ti emi o ṣe pẹlu wọn?" He wanted his orders to be very clear, for there not to be any room for interpretation. He would kill an northerner he saw if she asked it if him. If it would keep the goddess's lands safe he would make sure to make an example of the first to cross if need be. But despite the fact he had been raised on violence and groomed to be a protector of the oracle it did not make her always okay with his decisions. He was stealthy, he could keep himself hidden if need be but he would leave the option up to her.

She could tell how uneasy the request had made him and she instantly felt a pang of regret and guilt churn within her fragile stomach. He agreed as long as his brother would act as a sort of bodyguard while he was away and she nodded; glad that she would have answered to report to the Elders. ?Ti o ba ti yoo ọk?n rẹ ni Ease, ki o si Emi yoo duro pẹlu Shai titi ti o pada.? She agreed in verbosity before he asked his next string of questions. She thought carefully about the questions. ?Mo fẹ lati Sikaotu o jade ni commonly lo ilẹ, ati awọn ilẹ Afara fun scents. ?Skah, Emi ko ro pe mo ti lailai ṣeun to fun gbogbo awọn ti o ṣe fun mi.? Ojiṣẹ thanked him in her own way with a small smile as she gave a small gaze back to the water of the falls for a bit. ?Ti o ba ti ọpọlọpọ awọn ti rekoja lori ju ti mo lero bi igbese yẹ ki o wa ni ya ṣugbọn awọn Goddess ti osi ohun bi wọnyi aiduro. He tried to force himself to stop shifting but found himself restless and tense despite her easy agreement to his terms of his departure. He couldn't speak, worry clouding his mind and choking his tongue so he simply forced himself to nod curtly to her response. He wanted to believe she was capable of looking out for herself, but at the same time a dark pit was opening in the bottom of his stomach even as she spoke. She would detail out her plans, give him specific instructions as he nodded along with them and filed them away for future referance. A scouting mission then, not one for direct contact. She would say that there would be no violence and Skah would lower his head slowly and sigh. That might make things harder. He had no desire to fight but what if he was discovered and they started one? he would have to deal with it as it came, no doubt about that. "A ni ẹtan?" He tried to make a joke, keep it light hearted but deep baritone of a voice was not made for joking and it came out kind of somber. Before he blew out another sigh and lifted his head to look around slowly.

He would sigh again and shake his head slowly, chuckling lightly as she thanked him. She really didn't have to, this was his job after all. She was his everything, he lived and breathed for her and one day he would die for her. "Awọn oniwe- iṣẹ mi Akia. Ko si ṣeun ti nilo."He would say softly, tipping his head in show of thanks anyways to her comment. He knew he shouldn't brush it off so nonchalantly but it was hard to take a thank you seriously when it was in fact his job. She would carry on, speaking of the northern wolves possibly spilling into their lands and maybe even claiming them. His gaze would flash wide, a moment of shock before he would attempt to smooth his features again. "Wọn ti wa ni ko kaabo lori awọn oriṣa ile ile." His voice was a soft growl before he would tip his head back and howl long and smooth would drift from his lips, calling for Shai. He needed his brother here before any reach decisions were made. "Yoo ti o lọ si awọn ?gba bayi tabi duro fun mi pada? Bawo ni o gun le duro?" He would ask as his song drifted away. Hopefully Shai was near enough to hear his call?

Dark paws would carry the large brute deftly through the land, he would miss not a single step as he tread across the familiar ground. This was home, this was the place of his ancestors and the residing place of the great goddess. Such thoughts would cause him great confidence as he took in his brother?s urgent call. He?d been scouting prey, they?d made move of camp not long ago. He was learning still their favorite places to be, but today would have to be postponed. He could never ignore the call of his sibling, even if he still felt strangely towards Skah.
He could never hate his blood, but after the position of oracles protector had fallen to him Shai felt betrayed and broken. Though he was there when other?s needed him to be strong, he would silently build himself back up from the cold hard ground. As he drew near he?d take in the sight of their young oracle and his littermate, massive head would lower at his approach. The beads upon his tail would jingle melodically as he shook his tail slightly. "You have need of me?" He?d ask curiously, but in an oddly neutral tone. Bright eyes would glance between each form as he tilted his head slightly in anticipation of an answer.

He assured her that it was his job but she wasn?t entirely convinced and then he made a comment about the Goddess and how the northern wolves should not be allowed on her soil. Emi o duro fun rẹ pada ki o to koni jade awọn ?gba.? She informed him in one long litany before he let out a call. Her eyes shone slightly as her protector called for his brother Shai. The Oracle would fall back onto her rump as she waited for the man to arrive. She was going to explain the situation.

Ojiṣẹ would watch as the man arrived and she would dip her head slightly in greeting. ?Shai, arakunrin rẹ ti gba lati lọ lori kan scouting ise fun mi bi gun bi o sise bi mi Olugbeja ni ip? rẹ. Se o mu ọk?n awọn ise titi ti o pada?? She would ask calmly and with a small but hopeful smile as the white cloaked woman felt the biting fall winds blow through her long fur. Her blue eyes had tints of hope in them. She hoped the man would agree.

She would speak, offering him words of comfort but they did little to help him as muscles of his shoulders clenched and rolled. He didn't feel right allowing them to live here. This was their home. But Ojiṣẹ had a point, it was the goddess's land and she had put it here for any and all to live so long as they did not claim it as their own. He did not feel right with this but he would sigh and nod his agreement. He would follow his oracle's instructions... She would say that she would wait until he returned and he would nod his head. "Ti o ba ti mo ti ko pada ni meta sunsets... Ni awọn ?gba yan titun kan Olugbeja." He didn't want to say it but if he didn't give her a time frame for his return she might be without a protector for a while. He wanted to say more to Ojiṣẹ, wanted to say goodbye, maybe tell her it had been nice being her protector. Was it his place?

He didn't have time to dwell on it, Shai showed up in almost no time at all and a wave of emotions he had damed up when he had been chosen as oracles protector began to crack and leak through. How long had it been since seeing his brother last? Ojiṣẹ would not leave them in silence, taking the reins and explaining their plan. Skah would look at her, watching her as he spoke before looking to Shai and swallowing the lump that was growing within his throat. Despite the turmoil raging inside him his exterior would remain calm, professional as he regarded his older brother. How long had it been? Shai had lost a lot of his spark. Was that because of him? Because Skah had stolen his dream? "Mo ti ko le ro ti ẹnikẹni Emi yoo gbẹkẹle diẹ... Jọwọ arakunrin." His voice was soft, a deep baritone that rumbled up his throat.

He was punctual, his tall cobalt blue form slipping easily into their presence. He was glad for Ojise?s quick words as sun lit gaze would catch Skah?s reaction to his presence. Not wanting to linger he?d shift his full focus on the pale she wolf, her words consuming his thoughts, Skah was going on a mission for her. It was very likely that it had everything to do with the northern wolves, though he would refrain from seeking this information. He would meet her aqua gaze, watching them as she asked not only with her words, but with those sparkling gems. He?d take a deep breath as he listened to his brother?s words follow, they were somber but they would sound with truth. Still Shai would only look at the woman before him. He?d leave thoughts of his brother for another day, this was for the Otito lya. "For you, Aika." He?d bow his head before her again, th epause almost too long before he would rise, his gaze finding Skah?s. "For you, brother." The words were quieter, but deeper and filled with more emotion.

Skah seemed to express his worries of not returning by telling them that if he did not return by the forth sunrise, to have the Elders find a new protector and she shook her head. "Ma ko ni le aimọgbọnwa Skah. O yoo pada ati ki o yoo tesiwaju lati dabobo mi." She made a point in confessing her confidence in him so he would not think such tragic things could happen. She refused to have another long-term protector because he was already a fine one. There would be a certain aspect of guilt surrounding her if he never returned home. The weight of a dead tribe member on her shoulders... no. He would return.

She would then shoot Shai a smile and speak once more. "Emi o gbiyanju lati ifẹhinti lẹnu iṣẹ bayi. Otito le Iya si wa pẹlu ti o Skah. Mo ti fẹ ti o kan ailewu ati ki o yara ?j?." She said with a dip of her head before turning away and leaving the scene to return to her den.

He would keep himself a bit distant, not really sure how to act right now, but slowly things would begin to unfold around him better then he had hoped. Shai would agree, speaking softly to both the oracle and himself. He would do it. Thank the goddess. Skah would nod softly, head lowering and tipping as he look to his brother and then back to Ojiṣẹ as she spoke. Her confidence in him was unfailing and powerful, he felt stronger knowing that she believed that he wold return to her in a few days time. A soft smile would tip the edges of his lips as he watched the Oracle lift herself and speak of retiring. Skah would dip his head, not speaking as he watched her turn and depart. He didn't have anything to say, didn't know what to say. See you soon? Teeth would chew the inside of his cheek thoughtfully before turning to Shai and nodding. "Mat the goddess's light shine down on you brother..." His words were soft, for his bother only before he would nodd to Shai as well and turn. The land bridge seemed like the best place to start of any so with that he would set off, long legs pulling him forward and away from the two most important people in his life.
