Another wintery day, another day that Tortuga stood strong. It did Maija's heart good to know that her pack members were living under the care of her and Taurig with the faith that she needed as the Queen. She didn't say it publicly to the wolves, but she was proud of how far they had come since Taurig first arrived at the volcano. Her heart skipped a couple of beats at the memory of their first meeting and she sighed with a smile to herself.
Still, her trust issues were still on the rise and for good reason. Aside from being paranoid her whole life, the threat outside Tortuga's borders was worse than before. Even though it had been two weeks since the maiming of her beloved husband, Maija was still on her toes. It had been like that since she was a pup and she doubted it would change as she continued to grow. She pushed the thoughts out of her mind and reclined to her haunches next to the frozen stream. Why let such ideas ruin her breakfast?
The Regina had been out hunting for something to snack on, considering she had been desiring more food than usual because of the pregnancy. Her cravings had been for deer, and as luck would have it, there had been a stray doe eating the grass that strived to survive the harsh weather changes. Maija was still in the early stages of pregnancy, so she brought down the doe without any problem. Now, as she lowered herself to the ground with the doe's neck in her mouth, she wagged her tail happily before placing the rest of her catch in front of her. Blood-stained lips were licked by her tongue and hunger smoothly rolled in her stomach. Lust showed in her leaf-green eyes for the taste of raw meat and she took her first big bite into the side of the doe's left shoulder, tearing the fur and skin apart to dive for the meat inside. Her eyes closed and she enjoyed the many flavors that sparked in her mouth. Today was going to start off nicely.
