Gyan snarled as he pushed his way through the heavy snow, each step seemed harder than the rest and the biting wind grabbed and pulled at his shaggy snow encrusted coat. He stumbled forwards with the knowledge that if he didn?t find shelter soon, he would freeze. The past few days had been a haze; he scavenged food when he could but otherwise he made his way through the frozen land slowly starving to death.
The wolf?s head hung low, pale grey orbs constantly searching for shelter, he found himself carelessly tumbling over the land with no regard for his usual stealth. How had this happened? Gyan growled subconsciously as he tripped on a branch, driving his muzzle into the snow. The young wolf picked himself up and carried on robotically as if he wasn?t in control of his own body. He had been surviving just fine until a grizzly bear had decided that his little patch of land would be perfect to hibernate and Gyan left without a question. He was in no shape to take on a bear. Since then he had been wandering out in the woods slowly succumbing to the harsh weather.
The wolf?s paws scraped bare stone and he snapped out of his reverie. A cave? A cave! Gyan?s eyes glowed with a temporary excitement as he finally stepped out of the snow. Totally disregarding the possibility of there being other wolves, he curled up and as he was drifting off the strange markings on the walls came to life, jumping and dancing to a rhythm of their own.

He had already spent some amount of time in the north but it did not fail to surprise him that the weather could be this cold even in the summer. It seemed weird to him that there?d be snow here, now. Despite it all he pushed ahead, determined as hell to find the cave he had heard so much about. Rumors abounded about how the cave had come to be filled with so many drawings, though it seemed widely accepted that they had been put there by humans. His paws were growing very wet very quickly. The warmth of his skin had it melting rather quickly, of which he was very happy about. Getting snow out of his coat was always a bitch.
Finally he saw the yawning opening of what could only be the cavern he was looking for. He quickly pushed towards it eager to be out of the snow and wind. Immediately stepping inside his dull green eyes grew wide. The walls and even some of the lower parts of the roof were covered in many many images, men and wolves, large furry beats, cats with large fangs barred, all of it heavily suggesting the influence of man. He was so wrapped in his wonder that Gitan did not see the small male till he had tripped over him. Gitan did not fall, stumbling instead before managing a shaky recovery.
He would wheel quickly around, both to see exactly what and who had tripped him and to check if the other wolf was alright.

He had been running for a long time now and the warmth had seeped out of his paws before he could remember. The snow on the open plain was up to his knees and each step grew harder, forcing the wolf to a near stop. It was white as far as the eye could see save for a small brown speck in the distance. Gyan stopped, peering off at the spot, trying to identify the swiftly growing shape. The reality of it hit him hard; a wolf was barreling towards him looking all around but unable to see the grey wolf in the snow. His mind was screaming for him to run, find cover but his paws were frozen to the ground and the other wolf was already crashing into him.
Snapping awake, Gyan instinctively leapt to his paws turning to see who or what had tripped over him. His lip pulled back into a snarl, hackles raised when he spotted a brown wolf looking at him. His pale grey eyes took in the wolf before him, the brown coat, the cream markings and his dark green eyes.?Too big,? Gyan murmured under his breath even though he stood his ground. There was no place in this cave that the smaller wolf could get a tactical advantage, he would have to talk his way out of this.

Gitan had to laugh as he watched the smaller wolf jump into a defensive position. Gitan was more of a pacifist but it seemed obvious who would walk away from a scrap the worse for wear. Luckily for the grey wolf the earthy brute was not going to attack. At least not unless the other wolf jumped him. With one smooth move, he lowered upon his haunches. ?Now there is no need for that.? His tone was light, joking. He had learnt that often times being at ease, could make others mimic his behavior. If he didn?t act like a threat, the other wolf would not feel threatened, simple as that.

Gyan eyed the bigger wolf and awkwardly settled into a crouch, his pelt still slightly ruffled despite his best attempts to flatten it. Self-conscious for the first time in ages the grey wolf twisted and gave his shaggy coat a few licks. This wolf didn?t seem intent on attacking and his tone indicated that it was more likely the opposite. Finding his voice he managed out a few words, scratchy from lack of use: ?Just a reaction?? Gyan shifted and laughed uncomfortably, glancing around the cave. The other wolf seemed so at ease and the effects were rubbing off. The marking on the walls caught his attention and with a sideways glace at the bigger wolf he thought for a moment. It was possible that he knew what the odd marking were. Curiosity overtook caution; he had to find out if he knew what they were.,? ?Some strange markings ,? he noted, pointing his muzzle in the direction of what looked like a bear etched in muddy brown, ?but who made them?? He let his voice wander off as an invitation to answer.

Just a reaction eh? Gitan greatly questioned why the other male might react that way immediately upon seeing a strange wolf. True Gitan had tripped over him, no doubt making him confused and disoriented but that was no reason to act in such a way. He let it go however, not really wishing to dwell on the negative. The younger male laughed nervously, obviously still not comfortable with the encounter, but Gitan?s attention was drawn to the walls as the other man pointed them out. The rude drawing he had pointed out in particular was that of a bear, large front paws lifted from the ground and maw drawn down in a roar.
Getting to his paws he approached it, unconsciously he lifted a paw just brushing the bottom of the drawing, swiping across the back legs of the rearing creature. ?Humans, I would assume.? He spoke, throwing the words back over his shoulder at the man. ?Not that I can be sure? frankly I wasn?t aware they could manage such feats, nor do I know what purpose these images serve.? No one did, even the older wolves who had lived during the time of the two legged creatures had not been able to divine why humans did anything.
