The moon clung to the sky, obscured by the dense clouds that threatened to release their liquid prisoners at any given moment, causing an eerie glow to be cast upon what remained of a seemingly detonated wood. The strong aroma of smoke lingered in the atmosphere and a thinning cloud of ash accompanied its presence, causing the serpentine wraith to wheeze every so often to expel the debris that cluttered her throat upon inhaling. What attracted her to the forgotten forest that seemed to plead for resurrection, she knew not, but there was something about it that made her feel at ease ? at home. Alas, the conditions here were vile and, especially with her newborn whelps (now in the faithful paws of their sire), impossible to survive in ? but not to loiter. She heaved another guttural sigh, metallic depths peering through the opaque air as if searching for something of interest, but it did not escape the intelligent fiend that such an area was unaccommodating and that any life-forms that had ever resided here were now long gone with the forest that once flourished here.

She had not seen fire for herself, but she, as most, knew of its effects. The ash that clung to the air tasted bitter, made her lungs and throat feel agitated. No - Chrysanthe would not stay here for long. She nearly sneezed while trying to get a better scent of the area, wondering if some unfortunate soul had wandered here. What seemed to stand out more than the scent of a single female, were the dark tracks that she left behind. The alpha took no time in following the other, curious as to just who was out here on this dark night. Who exactly she found, she was a bit surprised to see. "Morphine." She called out to the white mistress - Tortuga's previous alpha, and one of the only members of that pack under Kaein's rule that she had ever met. She had impressed her, daring to fight against her giant of an older brother, even if she had bailed out toward the middle. "No longer a Tortugan?" She asked, and within her mind she wondered - had the other female abandoned her pack or had her pack abandoned her? With a new pair of alphas in place, there was no way to be sure.

Her paws beat into the earth with every languid stride taken, pawpads kissing the ash adorning it and imprinting dainty tracks upon the surface that she disregarded with ease. Had she not been traversing through an area that could potentially asphyxiate her with the intake of smoke, she would have obscured her trail from the view of the curious to avoid being pinpointed, but she doubted any would brave entering the dangerous once-wood and thus saw the effort as futile. Alas, she was mistaken, and with her positioning downwind, she was alerted to her stalker?s presence only by the startling usage of her given name. The femininity of the voice behind her title was familiar to the woman, but still she could not quite put a face to it, causing the pallid wraith to pivot abruptly to greet her pursuer with a curious expression.

A dread flooded the pit of her stomach as her pupils settled upon the gargantuan physique of a woman that appeared to have just reached her prime, immediately recognizing her to be the valiant challenger that had battled Nnoitra for her sibling ? a Valhallan. An expression of indifference fell across her countenance despite the nagging rage that had ignited within her chest, still infuriated with the memories of her defeat associated with her current company, but she would never grant the babe that insight. Instead, her ears cocked forward expectantly, monotonous vocals vacating her unhinged jaws in a curt greeting: Miss Valhalla, she addressed the nameless face calmly. But the girl seemed to be intent upon opening up old wounds, mentioning the pack she both adored and had been banished from. The question derived a snort from the serpentine witch and irritation flooded her system, but she maintained her vague fa?ade even as she spoke. Unless you consider the possibility of my being murdered once I set foot into its headquarter as on good terms with Tortuga? she paused then, a dry laughter cascading from her lips, Then, no. Briefly, her gaze travelled up the behemoth?s form, almost expecting her to charge in her direction, but it did not seem as if that was the case. Why? Has Desdemona sent you out to fetch me? ? Since she obviously can?t find the courage to do it herself.

The smaller female spoke smoothly, calmly, turning toward her and immediately snipping with her words and tongue. Snorting and emiting a dry catty sort of laughter, she was bitter. Chrysanthe knew not how to respond for a moment, because she was supposedly neutral with Tortuga as of the moment, and allied through friendships that she would prefer to keep close. Was Morphine a problem for them? Should she be here to fetch the woman, or even worse? After her question, the alpha shook her head no, she was not here to make the white fae's life any harder than it currently was. "No, she has not spoken a word of you to Valhalla." In fact, it seemed that Morphine had been forgotten - such was the way with leaders come and gone.

"I remembered you from the day we met, I still believe you have more fight at the base of your toes than they do in their very bones." Especially now, with Nnoitra being one of the alphas that was running the show. The old man couldn't even finish a fight with her without his age becoming a factor and his body giving out. As much as she loved Demonio, loved Tikaani, she could not respect the male as a leader. Her hopes for Desdemona remained up in the air - lowered because of who she picked to rule beside her, but questioned because her best friend was hopefully intelligent enough a beast not to wed a fool. "I fear for her, making an enemy of you." She had a pack to protect her, not to mention a white knight that would die before letting a hair on her head be forcefully redirected. Honestly she wasn't worried about her. Yet Morphine would not let herself be walked over - at least, not the picture of the beast that had been painted within the alpha's own mind.

She should be afraid of her, be wary of her, perhaps even hate her for being a threat to the current Tortuga, for being dangerous. Yet she was only curious, about her, what drove her. There was something within her that reminded the woman of her siblings. Syrinx, Eos, both had a drive within them that Chrysanthe could only taste when she was in the heat of battle. It interested her, even though it was something that she would probably only ever catch glimpses of herself.

She had been unaware of the shift in leadership in the gargantuan female?s pack, and thus it had passed her that the younger canine had her own crown to uphold, even if the authority she had obtained was over a pack the petite wraith looked upon with disdain because of its former relation to Tortuga. But, now with Desdemona at the pack?s head, Morphine could only assume that the foolish wench stuck true to the promise of settling disputes with Valhalla, thus insinuating an unease to develop within the pit of her stomach at the realization that the Valhallans could have easily singled her out upon their blacklist. However, as the Valhallan sovereign reassured her that she was not out for Morphine?s head, the wariness within her subsided, but only slightly. The encounter was intense regardless of its purpose all because of the negative history between the duo, so when the girl?s next set of vocals entered the atmosphere, Morphine?s surprise was imminent.

Brows knit together in an astonished fashion at the compliment she had received, so unexpected in light of the battle that had been waged between Valhalla and Tortuga upon the battlefield many months ago. The ice queen was taken too far aback to accept the compliment with gratitude as she should have, stricken with silence as she attempted to comprehend whether or not the other female had been joking. Pupils searched the plains of the woman?s facial features for the hint of a mocking smirk but it appeared that the younger female had been entirely serious with her words, even offering Morphine with a second statement that shocked her all the more. Jaws unhinged as if to speak after a few moments of silence, but they tentatively swung shut with her loss for words. I lost, she reminded the woman after a decent amount of time, her voice hardly audible even in her own ears as they flicked back to her crown in embarrassment at her defeat that occurred so long ago. Even still, she hated admitting it to herself.

The other seemed to be confused at her revelations. It was oddly entertaining, to see the stoic female show such an emotion on her face, as slightly as it was, it was there. The knitting of her brows, the surprise within her pale blue eyes. If she was searching for dishonesty she would find none in the younger female's visage. She was sincere with her words. "You did, but you fought - and Collision no less." She nearly grinned at the thought. "Not many would challenge my brother for anything." Not even she had crossed him when she could have very well fought tooth and nail against his decisions. She admired Morphine's fire, she appreciated it in any warrior. There was little for Morphine to be embarrassed about, you won some you lost some, what was important was that you tried. It seemed to be a concept that was lost to Tortuga... they seemed to think life was easier when you didn't get your paws dirty or your teeth bloodied. Perhaps they were right and it was. "Let alone a woman that vanished on us shorty after." Her words held a bit of a bite to them - she was a bit miffed that she had dallied off to who knows where. She had seen her face at a single pack meeting, and then she was gone.

In the bitch?s eyes, pride was only justified through the tangible victory of a battle, so even though she may have stepped up to the challenge the Valhalla imperial had provided her with valiance, she only viewed the event as an embarrassing defeat and nothing more ? something that made her an unworthy opponent and incompetent. Her intensive upbringing had forced upon her a self-conscious mentality, but such did not ring true for the behemoth queen who saw a valuable quality within her that Morphine?s pride had blindsided. Tentatively, her ears swiveled forward as the girl attempted to justify her loss, and although the pallid wraith would accept the compliment with a sluggish nod once her company?s speech ceased its flow, she would never truly see the flame that the Valhallan claimed flickered within her. Though Chrysanthe?s efforts may have been futile on the surface, some of the bitterness encasing her interior dissipated ? perhaps the girl was not so bad, but the same could not be presumed about the remainder of Valhalla.

Her interest piqued as the conversation shifted, a bitterness lacing the brutish woman?s words as she spoke of the renegade whose traitorous nature seemed to prevail even when placed within the ranks of another pack. Had Chrysanthe mentioned this straight off the bat, the ice queen would have chortled and emanated an I told you so vibe, because she had, in fact, claimed Cyanide would remain a traitor no matter which pack possessed her allegiance. But she refrained from acting upon that immature impulse, the hint of a frown tugging at her visage as she empathized with the Valhallan. You haven?t lost much, she stated firmly, thoughts drifting off to the times when the traitor?s loyalty resided with Nnoitra. Even then she hadn?t been of much use to the pack.
