Cormalin

The hit had nicked the male?s tendon. Cormalin let his haunches swing away, dancing back to allow him. This would be the male?s chance to run. He was already on the defensive. He?d not yet turned and run, but he seemed less willing to make the next attack. The scent reached him at the same time he saw Erani?s eyes glimmer vaguely. His sister began making passes at the male, harrying after the male like a pack would with a bear.

Cormalin circled with her, imperceptibly leaving more room. To the male, it might look as though the fight had gone out of them, and they were uneasy about making a true attack. In truth, they were opening a clear path, for what was about to come thundering in with vengeance. He kept close to Rayne, hoping she would stay close as well.

Obsidian

She came in silently. Or, at least as silently as a thousand plus pound stampeding animal on hooves could charge. Black hide rippled over powerful muscles, nostrils flared, flashing red insides, blue eyes flashed wildly through thick, tangled locks of black mane and forelock. Her ears were flat to her poll and her teeth were bared for battle. It would be her very first real fight!

The large black mare thundered into the scene with a snort, zeroing in on the grey male who threatened her friends. The black hellion showed no sign of swerving, no gathering of muscles to leap over the grey male. She fully intended to trample him where he stood. Front legs struck out for the male?s sides and back, as her head snaked down in an attempt to clamp her jaws on his scruff. That wolf would have to move. Standing still would be a mistake he?d never forget.

The duo ceased their attacks on the gargantuan man for the moment, circling him, taunting him like a pack of their kin would to a bear. But Demyan wasn't stupid. He wasn't about to put himself in a position where he was being attacked from two angles. As fun as that sounded, he wasn't about to risk his life for some stupid worthless piece of ass that wasn't even worth the fight anymore. The white bitch was nothing special, nothing grand and barely something to look out. She wasn't worth his time. He wasn't even sure why he'd bothered with her in the first place. The steel shaded man held his ground, snarling and snapping towards the duo, but never leaving his spot. Something passed between the two lupine, he could see it in the subtle eye contact betwee the two. They had something up their sleeves. But it was the man would've never imagined in a million years.

The distinctive sound of pounding hooves could be heard at a distance, catching the man's attention, though not enough for him to peel his gaze away from the duo. A horse? What the hell was a horse doing in a wolf infested land like this one? Clearly the damn thing fucking demented if it thought it could live here without the threat of being eaten. A few moments after hearing the sound of the thundering hooves the massive creature came into view, all thousand pounds of rippling muscle, shining obsidian coat and thundering hooves. It didn't go towards the duo, but instead came charging towards him, looking to trample him over. Demyan snarled towards the equine, muscles contracting in one fluid movement as he leaped away from the charging animal, moving himself well out of harms way, cyan gems unable to leave the horse's figure. The horse was helping the two wolves. Was this animal stupid? Wolves ate horses. They didn't live peacefully with them. What the fuck was this shit? Limbs were nimble beneath the large man, keeping him in constant motion as he paced at a safe distance away, muzzle crinkled in disgust. These wolves were pathetic, associating with prey animals like this. She was food, not an ally.

Erani

The male was unwilling to move as they harried and baited him. He didn?t need to, it soon turned out. Obsidian arrived, charging the male, hooves striking out at him. He evaded her, and Erani moved while he was thoroughly caught off guard. She darted over to Rayne, aiming a nudge to the female?s shoulder, one ear and eye toward the male. She intended to shepherd the confused wolf out of the fight and out of danger.

She?d have to speak to Chrysanthe about Obsidian?s performance. She wasn?t sure what promotion Obsidian could get, but it was obvious that Cormalin?s training wasn?t going to waste. She felt a great deal of pleasure at the male?s confusion. True, horses were usually food, but Obsidian?s fearless demeanor and steadfast befriending of Cormalin had ended in her becoming a member of Valhalla. There were still a few curious looks tossed the horse?s way, but it was fully understood that the horse was family, not food.

Erani kept guard over Rayne, gently nudging her toward the edges of the area, and out of sight.

Cormalin

Cormalin was very greatly pleased at the male?s reaction to Obsidian. Yes, she usually got that from wolves. This was the first one she?d ever tried to trample, and given the male?s nasty behavior toward a member of Valhalla, he was greatly satisfied with the results. The male couldn?t seem to take his eyes away from the horse as he evaded her hooves and teeth. That would serve well for Cormalin.

Cormalin came in swift and silent, charging for the male's good haunch, aiming for a collision. The objective was to knock the male onto the injured leg and force him to take more weight than it wanted to take. He wouldn't slow his momentum, wanting to put a punch into the attack. He depended on Obsidian to keep the male from being able to retaliate fully to his attack. He trusted the mare. Those hooves would keep anyone distracted.

Obsidian

Obsidian?s target slipped out of immediate danger, eyes locked on her as though he could hardly believe his eyes. Was he blind? Or addled? Or maybe he was being smart in not trying to attack her. She lunged toward him, snaking her head at him, ears flat, eyes wild, chasing after his movements. She felt Erani take advantage of the male?s distraction and start pressing the healer away. Then she saw Cormalin charge. She could read the pleasure in his eyes. He was pleased with her.

As he charged, she charged for the male as well, hooves striking for the male?s face, lashing out at the male in an attempt to strike him down. Was he an idiot or could he really not understand that he was outnumbered, particularly with a hoofed animal that could use all for feet while standing? She gave a shrieking squeal, intentionally ear piercing. A harsh challenge to the wolf that had tried to harm a member of the family.

She?d happily chase him as much as he wanted to be chased. It would be a fun game.

Chaos. It was everywhere. The angry roar of the brute, and thundering of hooves, a terrible screech. Hooves? It confused her for a moment. Memories from pack meetings briefly flashed in her mind. Obsidian. The horse, she belonged to the pack. How had she known to come? The ivory woman knew very little about the massive animal, only seeing her at pack meetings. The attack seemed to last a lifetime. Erani and Cormalin tag teaming the brute, Obsidian making her entrance, that would surely leave an impression on the brute.

The familar scent of the lead healer reached her nose, gaze turning to meet hers. She felt a gentle nudge as the woman guided her away, leading her to safety. Steps were slow, still trying to become coordinated again. She stayed close, keeping by Erani's side, using her for added balance. Her heart still pounded in her chest, realization beginning to form. If not for Erani and Cormalin and Obsidian, who knows what would have happened to her, she would probably still be at the mercy of the brute. She shuttered at the thought.

Noises slowly faded away as the pair got farther away from the danger, silencing enveloping them. Gaze turned toward the woman, hoping she wasn't hurt. She'd feel terrible if anyone got hurt on her behalf. Questions started to form. How had she found her? How did she know she even left Valhalla? It was still uncertain to the smaller woman were they stood with each other, they hadn't see each other since their last meeting, which hadn't gone all that well. But she was thankful for her presence today.

He was done. So completely done. The she-horse's shrill cry pierced his ear drums, reverberating in his skull, pale lips peeling back against ivory daggers, a threatening snarl erupting from his jaws. Fuck them! All of these fucking pack wolves! They could go fucking rot in hell for all he fucking cared. The stupid white bitch included. Snarling one last time at the damn horse, Demyan turned and charged off, tail held high over his back, unwilling to show any type of cowardice as he moved off. He had better things to do than fight over some stupid pack bitch.

Erani

Erani guided Rayne away, and when they were far enough away, she settled onto her haunches, not completely relaxed. Her haunches were lightly coiled in case Cormalin was cut down and the male intended to come for Rayne again. Deep blues cast a chilled glare toward the fight, as she waited for the outcome. She could faintly hear the sounds. Hooves pounding, the harsh challenge from Obsidian.

Then silence. Her coiled muscles relaxed into a complete sit, tail curling over her haunches. The wind blew toward her, and while there was the slight dab of Cormalin?s blood on it, there was no scent that said he was dead. She turned and ran her muzzle over Rayne?s form, checking her signs. Elevated heart beat, and confusion, mostly from shock. Erani moved to apply gentle grooming licks to Rayne?s head. The grooming would help to bring down the shock, and calm her.
?I believe it?s time you learned to protect yourself when running isn?t an option. When you are well, I will come to you, and begin teaching you.? Her words gave no course for refusal. Rayne would learn to fight.

As she heard hooves and pawsteps heading their way, she rose, gently ushering the younger healer to her paws, and headed them to home. ?Let?s go home, and get you tucked into an alcove in my den.? She?d watch over Rayne to be sure of no permanent brain injury.

Cormalin

The grey male finally broke and ran. Cormalin stepped back, watching the male go to be sure he left and didn?t circle around to come in from another direction. Turning, he smiled to Obsidian. ?That was very well timed, my friend.? Her praised as he padded toward where Erani had guided Rayne. He kept at a pace where Obsidian would be walking beside him, tail swaying. He knew Erani would come snarling at him if he didn?t come to her den and get his nose treated.

?So you were following us?? He asked, pleased that she?d been learning forest craft as well as basic warrior training. Mismatched eyes glanced up at his friend, before he caught Erani?s words to Rayne. ?I can help with this. I?ll speak with Chrysanthe about training those wishing to be healers in defense and offence. It make be hard to stomach for the more peaceful members, but it?s necessary.? He followed his sister and Rayne from the Area. He?d be talking to Chrysanthe about Obsidian, and have her warn the members about this male.

Obsidian

Obsidian reared, and the male ran. It was thrilling, and she was heated up. She pranced in a small circle, snorting, before Cormalin?s praise settled her some. She stood still, head held high as she looked around to be sure no more bad wolves wanted to play, before she turned and followed after Cormalin. His question received a nod. ?Yes. I wanted to get out, and I wanted to practice walking silently, so I followed. Pretty good, huh?? She wasn?t one to boast, but she was delighted with herself. All those dainty show mares from her past would be aghast at her actions. Then again, they freaked at fireworks, and camera flashes, so she wouldn?t have been surprised to see one of them run, tail hiked over her ass at the mere sight of a wolf.

A lot of those mares had been snotty because Obsidian hadn?t been purebred, instead being a sport horse type. Her tail flicked. They?d changed their tunes when Obsidian had won all the ribbons. They?d ducked into their stalls when she?d been led past after show. Obsidian smiled, then turned her attention back to the present. She?d gone from Champion mare to Warrior. She liked the change. Major would be proud. Cormalin was speaking to Erani as they walked out. Her ears pressed forward. ?I?ll help, too.? Her head tossed high again. Today had been a pretty good day, but she was ready to graze and take a standing nap when they got home.

She allowed Erani to lead her away, seating themselves a safe distance away, but the fight could still be heard. A frown pulled at her features, she listened to Erani speak, mumbling an agreement absentmindedly. She tried to slow her heart rate, to calm down, catch her breath, regain control of herself. Gaze drifted idly from Erani to Cormalin and Obsidian. Had she not been in shock she would have thanked been, be grateful. But she curled up inside herself, putting up her emotional defenses, shutting down. Rising to her paws once more, she followed the group home. Eyes downcast, steps slow, but she still kept up. She wanted to forget all of this, that it ever happened. But there would be no escaping it.
