Having parted from his mother in the orchard after a patrol, Chaos made his way through the mud - splashing as much as possible, of course - to the muddiest mud puddliest mud puddle of all, with the squishiest, stickiest, muckiest mud he could find, and then gleefully through himself headlong in it to root around like a big striped toothy pig. He surfaced more mud than pup, shook off, and then flopped in again, wallowing around to make the mud pit even bigger and muddier, until he'd sank in to where only his eyes and nose were visible as he stretched out in the muck. And then - he waited, blissfully covered in cold sticky waterlogged dirt, happy as a hog in, well, mud, for someone fun to come along so he could frighten them...

Rhys leapt from puddle to puddle with blissful abandon. She liked this season much better than Winter! It was way more fun and a lot less cold. Snow was overrated. Mud was messier, stickier, slimier and all around way more fun! Did she mention slimy? It was super slimy! If she ran at a shallow puddle and then stiffened her legs like she was going ice skating she could slide across the mucky surface. She never got very far before the slickness got away from her and she ended up falling, but it was still so much fun!

She spied a big muddy patch where it looked like a bison or two had wallowed and made a beeline for it. The mud coating that clung to her belly and legs and splattered her from tip to toe was surprisingly heavy, but what was a little more? Maybe she could even get good and coated with it, and blend into the mucky mess. With a little patience she could wait for someone to walk by and jump out and scare them! Wouldn't that be fun?

It was such a looooooooong time (like ten whole minutes!) of nothing happening that Chaos quickly grew bored with his plan. And despite being covered in cold mud he was warm enough beneath his fluffy coat, so as he'd stretched out there waiting... he'd begun to nod off.

Just a little at first, then he'd jerk back awake and glare out at the path for a while again, but finally he couldn't fight the pull any longer and he dipped further and further forward, eyes sliding closed and sinking under the mud until only his leathery nose remained above the mud. A quiet, snorting snore began to issue forth from that nose as the young wolf snoozed. As his sister began to approach the mud puddle the unaware Chaos inhabited, he accidentally nodded forward in his sleep, dipping his nose under the muddy water. His next breath brought mud water shooting up his nose, and Chaos, still half asleep, leaped to his feet with a confused and loud yowl of discomfort, flinging mud every which-way.
