Dark clouds loomed in the distance, the setting sun casting a golden glow across the land. Inga let loose a shuddering breath. Pain flared in her chest and she closed her eyes for a moment, turning her head to meet the concerned gaze of Branwen and she smiled softly. The crow hopped over to her, resting her delicate head on Inga’s left forearm. Balthazaar for once was silent, he rested at the lip of the cave that overlooked the waterfall. “It’s time isn’t it, Inga?” The old woman slowly raised to her feet and nodded as Branwen flew over to land next to Balthazaar. She was old, not as old as some but her lifestyle had been violent and rough and honestly it was a miracle she’d made it this long. She’d spent the past few days in contemplation of her life and the direction it would go. As she watched the light scattering in the sky she knew it was time for her to pass on. Resting at the lip of her den she let her howl echo down the peek and across the northern air for any that might wish to say goodbye.

Ears pricked to the mournful sound of a howl echoing through the mountainous land, and the slim alpha stood motionless for a long, thoughtful moment. She had heard such depth of knowledge in a call before, when her sister had called her to the borders of Ebony to share her certain knowledge that she was to die. Had Inga, too, this certain knowledge of impending death? The norns were on occasion wont to allow wolves this brief glimpse into their futures, to know that this time there would be no recourse. The faintest of regretful sighs puffed an orange-tinged cloud of fog before Katja in the cold sunset-light. With Inga would pass a wealth of knowledge, a lifetime of stories and experiences that would never again be shared with her pack. She could only be grateful the woman had had the raising of Auora's children for as long as she had.

She passed shadow-swift and shadow-silent to where her elder rested, then paused before lowering herself to her belly to lay silently beside the pale form to hold vigil over her, her tongue seeking to run over Inga's ears in comfort and benediction.

Inga had not been expecting anyone to show, she’d already bid her goodbye to Lyndvarr who was currently in his den ailing. He wished to remain and sing her on her journey but he was in no shape to do so and she’d sternly sent him back to bed.  She was still alive after all, and still his elder.  Though it would not be for much longer and she felt it in her bones, her thoughts growing light as Katja appeared.  “Hail Katja, Jeg håper å se deg før jeg forlater denne verden”  The younger woman knelt beside her, tongue offering comfort as it smoothed the fur between her ears.

”Vanskelige tider i møte for Yfir men jeg vet at du vil føre godt . Vær så snill, holde seg sterk . Gudene har store planer for deg”  Her voice began to fade as her head fell to her paws, eyes closing.

She listened quietly as Inga's voice softly washed over her, the knowledge that these would be their last words together solidifying into a sad acceptance. She pressed her shoulder gently to Inga's, sharing her warmth that the elder might be comfortable as she took her last breaths, but did not interrupt her words, until her voice failed, and her pale head slumped limply. Katja shifted that her head curved over Inga's neck. "Måtte gudene får du med glede," she murmured into the woman's ear, though she was likely already beyond hearing. "Du visdom og veiledning ... Yfir vil bli sterkere for tiden din her. Takk."
