Don't Wake The Dead

The place she had stumbled upon was creepy. What would Amaia think of this place, she wondered? It seemed so lifeless, so dank and dark. The female would give a soft snort as something scurried in the distance, the sound echoing back to her. The place was just, well, eerie. She could smell the scent of death in this place... Decay. She gave an uncertain whine, glancing over her shoulder. For the moment she could still see the exit... But what about if she pushed forward? Would she be able to find her way back out again?
The femme decided to chance it. Paw steps were light as she moved, her gaze shining as she searched the area. She was curious about this place, even if it also freaked her out. She took another breathe of the damp, musky air, a deep frown on her face and brow furrowed. It seemed like very little could live down here... And that it might be easy to get lost. She paused again, ears swiveling this way and that. Was that another set of pawsteps approaching or...?

This was they way home, right? Why did there have to be so many creepy territories in her way? She just wanted to get back to Fiori now. She'd been lucky to leave the Soulless Forest behind, but now she was here. She entered the darkness, the smell of death heavy in the air, enough to make her hackles rise nervously. She wasn't sure how much more of this she could stand, but if she didn't keep putting one paw in front of another, she wouldn't get home. She had to keep going.
As she made her way deeper into the chambers, she noticed the scent of a wolf, someone who was alive in this awful place. Perhaps this wolf would know where to go, a better way to get back to the comfortable mangroves. Bright Moon would definitely be visiting the hot springs after this journey - she was going to need it. Feeling like she was close to the other being in this eerie place, she decided she would chance it and call out. "Hello?" her voice echoed down the chamber, "Is anybody there?" She paused, waiting a moment to see if her voice would reach listening ears, and if she might get a response.

Carletta would blink as a voice called out to her. They spoke in the common tongue, not her most fluent language but one that she could answer in at least. She took a breath, turning her full body in the direction of the voice as she called back. “Yes! I Here!” The Spanish femme called. Her blue eyes would shine in the darkness as she started back towards the call, wondering who it was she might meet.
Thus far the wolves she’d met had either been ill or had not stuck around anywhere near long enough for Carletta to get to know them properly. Amaia waas wonderful company though and the silvery-gray female was thankful that her sister was here with her. Her nose would twitch as she walked on through the Death Chamber, as she had come to call it. She’d call out again, hoping she was closer to the stranger now. “You there?” She asked, her voice uncertain.

Nervously, Bright Moon stepped a little further into the chamber,, hers paws moving carefully, afraid to make a sound. The sound of even the smallest pebble skittering over the stony ground was enough to send shivers down her spine. This place was creepy, and she didn't like it. But someone else was here. Her ears perked and she paused in her stride as a voice called back to her. The accent was unfamiliar, but it was the voice of a female. Was she in trouble? Or lost?
Pressing onward, she heard the voice call out again. "Yes, I'm here!" Bright called out a little more determinedly now, "I'm trying to find you!" She as she finished speaking, her paw struck into something, and she stumbled slightly. As the scent of death flooded her nostrils, she realized she had tripped upon a wolf's corpse. A shrill shriek escaped her as she leaped away from the body, drawing her forepaw close to her chest. Fear tugged at her now, and she wasn't sure she could go any further - would the only other live wolf in this chamber be able to find her?

Carletta’s ears twitched as the other female called back in common. She was trying to find her, good... So she shouldn’t try running about to look for the other, right? Otherwise they might pass each other. The silvery-gray female waited, at least until she heard the shrill shriek. She jumped, her fur standing on end as a bit of frightened Spanish left her mouth. "¡Gracia divina!" Her ears flicked back against her skull, wondering what might have happened.
A few moments passed and Carletta realized she couldn’t hear pawsteps anymore. Realizing something might have happened to the other she wolf Carletta took a deep breath and began to press on in search of her. She didn’t know if she’d be able to find the stranger in this large chamber... But... Perhaps luck would be on her side?Oh, esto no es bueno ..." She whispered to herself.
Lifting her ears once more the femme took a deep breath. The scent of another wolf seemed to be getting stronger now. So calling out once more Carletta would check her position. “Still there?” She called.

Petrified, frozen in fear, Bright had not moved for several minutes now. Although her eyes were adjusting to the darkness of the cave, she didn't want to see. Not if it meant she would catch sight of another dead body. She had forgotten her mission to find the other wolf, and only when she heard pawsteps nearby did she dare open her eyes and seek out the other living being. Realizing her eyes had adjusted enough, she could see the outline of the woman moving toward her. Relief flooded her - she wasn't alone in this death chamber.
She padded forward until she was in front of the lady. "I'm here, you found me," she said with obvious relief in her shaken voice, "This place is horrible... I-I just tripped over a body. What has happened to these wolves?" The fragrance of decay was all around them. Why? Was this place dangerous? Or did it simply attract those who were approaching death? She wondered if her new acquaintance new anything about this chamber, or if she had stumbled upon it mistakenly as well.

It seemed at last her search in the dark chambers would prove fruitful. The other woman started towards her, her dark outline evident as they closed the remaining gap between each other. Carletta gave pause, ears perked forward and blue eyes shining curiously as the other woman spoke. The common tongue was so much harder to understand, especially when spoken quickly when one was shaken, though she noticed a tone of relief in the other femme’s voice as well.
Carletta was relieved at least to have found this femme, a stranger in a place of the dead it seemed. But as for what had happened here, what had happened to the wolves within... The Spaniard wasn’t sure. She knew that the corpses were a sign that something terrible had happened here... And the smell of death seemed stronger in this room. Perhaps due to the body the other woman had tripped over, Carletta realized.
“Know not the truth... Sorry am I.” Carletta gave a soft whine to show her sympathy for the other femme. “Accident found this... This death place.” Carletta spoke in a soft tone, not wanting to alarm the stranger for any reason. “Leave we should... Not safe I don’t think.”
