These are the dog days

The sickness that claimed many of Abaven nearly claimed her; she managed to avoid catching it barely, mostly by avoiding everyone and being very wary of what she ate. She couldn't afford to get sick; already the healers - or healer - was likely run dry of herbs, and she herself had no clue on how to treat the sickness. She did know some herbs for sicknesses, however, and that was why she was around the lake; such a water-filled area would likely have some herbs near it, and so she would attempt to find them to give them to... Harmony, if she recalled properly. She knew battle herbs easily, and some easy sickness ones - perhaps the ones for colds would assist. Marigold, marshmallow, watercress. These were the herbs she sought, during the last few days before the cold truly set in. It was winter now, no doubt about it, but it was still very mild and calm, with hardly any snow. There should still be herbs at the water's edge; it wasn't even that cold.
She approached the water's edge, sniffing around for the distinctive scents of the plants; now that the flowering season was gone, these plants would only be identified by their leaves and scent.

It's been awhile since he had felt cold. The lands he had wandered about, before this one, were all warm.. some with a bit of chill to the bone, but not as much as he was starting to feel here, as he was wandering pass the grasses beneath him, still not covered in snow. His mismatched eyes were managing to get every bit of detail from his surroundings. And yet, he felt almost annoyed at everything. He hated to new places, you have to investigate and find out what is useful and what not. And let's not mention the pests. Those four legged ones that looked like him, yep. The insects weren't so annoying as some of the four legs were. Shoulders rolled at the thought and black lips pulled up accompanied by furrowing brows. "Tsk," He murmured with distaste. By the time he had already complained for probably the hundred time in his mind, he had found himself in a halt. His legs weren't moving like they were before, steady and confidently. Dark ears twitched atop his head that on it's behalf lowered between broad shoulders. He might be small, but he had muscle and stamina, and he wasn't afraid to show it. What caught his attention was a white rump, that probably belonged to one of those pests that he was just complaining about. Ears perked and his furrowed brows were replaced with a straight line formed by his lips and half opened, half closed annoyed mismatched eyes. Maybe if he was lucky he wasn't going to get spotted. Paws started to move as he aimed to turn around, what was unfortunate for him again was the stick that was at the wrong place..
Crack. And he already knew, he was screwed.

Truthfully, Vali was far from cold. Her fluffy white coat kept her warm, and she didn't notice the chill at all. She was also focused on her job, on her herb collecting; she was looking for all sorts of herbs. True, a majority of the herbs she sought she could find at home, but a few she couldn't... and truly, she wanted the excuse to explore, and to be outside the pack lands. She hadn't gone away in so long; she figured a nearby territory would be a well enough break. Besides, she could find watercress and horsetail here, with the plants thinking it was spring again. Hopefully, they'd still come again in the true spring, but for now, she'd take what she could get... and what she could get was a patch of watercress, growing right by the lake! "Woo!" she chirped, bouncing over, nosing the cress. It was a large patch, alright, and certainly wouldn't mind if she took a few. Her paw fished out and she pawed at the ground around a clump of watercress when a resounding crack sounded behind her.
The wolf froze, slowly turning to regard the source of the sound - a ginger male, frozen mid-action and looking absoltuely sour. "Well, don't just stand there," the Abaven wolf said mildly, ears twitching. "If you're just gonna stand there, then come here and help me with these herbs." She had no problem commadering help from a loner; perhaps they could even arrange a deal in order to procure his help.

She seemed so happy with the grass she had found.. Why didn't it stay that way? She could've kept nudging that gross green stuff and go back from where she came. But it had to be his lucky day.. What was that stick even doing there. Head lowered as mismatched eyes glared at the cracked twig under his paw. Ears twitched backwards annoyed at the same thing he was.. Her voice that chirped so loud it almost broke his drums. And he was even giving commands. Who did she think she was?
"You don't seem to be missing a leg. Get them yourself, gör." He muses with distaste and moves to the side to take a look at something that caught his attention. Oh, look. It was a ladybug. How nice. Ears pointed forward and he aimed to push it with his paw and gently press over one of her wings so it would tear away. Mismatched eyes watching as the insect tried so helplessly to fly off. Shoulders roll and he finally looks back at the white wolf, tail flicks behind him and he lets out a low mur. "Go make someone else work for you." His small body twists and he moves around to explore the new territory he had just come across. Nose to the ground eveyr now and then taking in the scents around them.

His reaction made her ears twitched - oh, so an asshole? Joy. No wonder this wolf is a lone wolf; no pack would want a wolf who did not socialize. Likely, he would be dead over winter; lone wolves did not survive easily in the winter, unless they banded together with one another. His use of another language did perk her curiosity, though, and she watched him sidelong as he focused on something nearby. She huffed softly at his later comment, though finally scraped some of the herb free even as he wandered around, sniffing. What did he think he was doing? Exploring? Bah.
"How about this, stranger. You help me with these herbs and I'll teach how to not die of infection if you get wounded, and possibly assist you in getting something to eat that's not a rabbit." Truly, the creature would have to be quite dumb to not take that offer, unless he already knew such herbs... but somehow, she doubted it. He'd have had to find someone to teach him and she couldn't imagine anyone who would do so, unless in exchange for something. On top of that, she was offering her skills as a hunter; she knew, from experience, that the life of a lone wolf only allowed the capture of small prey. It wasn't very possible to catch anything other than that.
