Practice Makes Perfect
Rasiel Adravendi |
It was the middle of the night, and the child was being a very, very naughty little thing. Sure she remembered Regulus’ lesson, how not all wolves were good. That was fine! She didn’t need them all to be good, she thought. If some were bad then she had to become stronger so she could protect herself and her family. One training lesson wasn’t enough! But rather than ask her brother for another Rassie had snuck out again to go practice on her own.
Once she was far enough from the den the girl did her best to mimic the defenses her brother taught her. She started with her stance, spreading her limbs yet keeping them squared, spreading her toes and biting her claws into the soil. Then she flicked her ears back and narrowed her eyes. She tucked her tail and then paused. He’d taught her more... But... These moves were already feeling a bit weird. Rassie sighed. Would she ever get used to this?

The girl was sleeping soundly, her tiny chest rising and falling as she dreamed peacefully. It was certainly late when she awoke to faint sounds of movement. Eyes would slowly flutter open and she glanced towards where the noise had come from. Groggy eyes would begin to focus on her sister before the other girl vanished from the den. Feeling suddenly more alert now she sat up quickly and shook the fuzziness of sleep from her head. Where on earth was Rasiel going and why so late? They were supposed to be asleep. She was worried her sister was going to get into trouble, but wherever she was going she was doing it quickly. No time to wake their parents up.

He had been sound asleep, but the boy was beginning to find that he wasn't a real heavy sleeper. Most of the time his mother's movements would be what stirred him from slumber, sometimes even his father, but his sisters never before stirred him. Tonight had been different, he had been aware when the first sister stirred, but he had never opened his eyes, figuring she had just been switching her position around. Though when Kieryn stirred him the boy opened his eyes. He saw her leave, then quietly looked around the den. He realized that Rasiel was also missing and immediately the boy quietly got up. He was careful not to stir his parents as he left the den and put his nose to work at tracking the two. They shouldn't be alone and he was fearful something could happen to them. Moving forward he fallowed the fresh trail of the girls while he remained aware of his surroundings. Even though they were in pack territory and had guards there was always a possibility for an outsider to sneak in, let alone the girls were small enough that a coyote or a cougar would try their luck at taking one of them down.
It didn't take long for his eyes to spot the lighter color markings on the girls' pelts and quickly he closed the distance between them. Noting that Rasiel was doing some weird movements and expressions with her body that he hadn't yet learned to read. He was concerned something may be wrong with her. Was she ill and needed a healer? Tail wagging as he came to the side of Kieryn, he looked the girls over for any signs of wounds, but both seemed alright.
"What's going on," he asked in a low voice as he looked around them to be sure there was no danger.

Creed awoke with a start when he heard faint shuffling of paw pads exiting the den. He was still getting used to sleeping in the main den where Surreal and her family stayed. When he'd first joined Celestial he'd chosen his own closer to the lake, but ever since his promotion he'd thought more and more about moving in with the rest of them and he finally had caved. It was different getting used to the many sounds of slumbering wolves at night, but he was already a light sleeper anyways. Typically he would have ignored the sounds but he had a feeling it wasn't any of the older wolves leaving. The steps were too tiny and light to be anyone larger than a puppy. Suspicion was definitely one of the first things that entered his brain. Puppies, from his perspective, were hardly up to no good. More worried that they'd get themselves into some sort of trouble he silently followed the trail. Late night baby sitting didn't seem so bad and besides, it meant Surreal and Falk could have a break. He'd never had any kids of his own, but it couldn't be hard. It wasn't hard to follow them. Their scents all followed each other and they left behind a pretty good trail to follow. Rather than ruin their fun though the male remained downwind of the trio and watched them silently from cover. He'd watch for a while to see what they were up to before he sent them back to bed. They certainly wouldn't be allowed to stay up all night. Walk, "Talk" Think |
Kavdaya Of The Nomads |
She’d been sleeping soundly when the light patter of puppy paws brought her out of her dreams with a sleepy blink. She’d had enough experience with pups in the Nomads to recognize the sounds of night time escapees. She was on her paws, listening, her snowy form a ghost in the dark alcove she made her bed in. Two more sets of paws. Oh goodness, all three of them were up and out. She was taking a guess, but it sounded like Rasiel had gone first, then Kieryn, and now Lais. And then… Bigger paws, from Creed’s alcove.
A small grin crossed her features as she listened to him subtly follow after the pups, and at last, she slipped after them all, paws a touch above silent on the ground as she glided easily after the little parade. Where Creed’s scent diverted, she paused, then chose to follow him. She slipped up beside the male, nudging his shoulder gently with her nose before she settled silently beside him, casting a secret grin at him before her eyes shifted to watch the children intently. It looked as though Rasiel was practicing. Her hips shifted, hind legs stretching out to the side as she relaxed. If there was trouble, both she and Creed would be there in a heartbeat.

A voice, calling to her, caused Rassie to look up. Gaze focused on her sister as the girl sheepishly grinned. “I’m practicing! Reg taught me some defenses earlier, for fighting! Do you want to learn to Kia? I could teach you!” Then their other brother showed up. It was a party! Her tail started to wag, a mischievous grin spreading on her lips. “Like I told Kia I was practicing my defenses! Regulus taught me.” She puffed out her little chest proudly. “I’ll teach you too if you want me to, Lais! We can all practice together!” She was unaware that two pairs of adult eyes were watching over them, though perhaps that was for the better.
“But we gotta make sure we’re not gone too long.” Rasiel added. “Mom and dad are sure to notice our warmth missing sooner or later... And I really don’t want to get in trouble.” She glanced from her brother to her sister. Would they stay and practice with her or try to usher her back to bed?

The girl gave Rasiel a perplexed look as she said that she was practicing fighting. This mischievous grin didn't make her feel any better either so she glanced towards Laisren to see how he felt about it. She wasn't really keen on the idea of being out so late. If they were allowed wouldn't their parents just allow them to? They wouldn't have had to sneak out and Rasiel had definitely crept out of the den very quietly so she wouldn't wake anyone up. She wasn't opposed to the idea of learning how to fight. Her only problem was she still felt the pull of sleep on her eyes and she knew they weren't supposed to be out so late. Couldn't they do this in the morning when it was bright and sunny and they could actually see?

The boy's tail wagged in excitement as Ras explained what she was up to. It sounded like to much fun to miss out on and Lais would love to learn. He wanted to become a fighter someday and learning his defenses was the first step towards becoming a fighter. He drummed his front two feet into the earth and looked to Kie, she seemed hesitant and undecided. Looking to him and wondering what his thoughts were made him smile. Although the boy thought she looked rather tired. She didn't have to participate if she didn't want to, she could watch and if she fell asleep then they would wake her before slipping back into the den.
What harm could it be? They were deep within pack territory to begin with so what really was the worse that could happen. He looked between his two sisters and smiled.
"Why not, it's sounds like fun anyway!" he said with a smile before looking to Kie, "You can watch if you like Kie we will be fine and if we don't go any further we shouldn't get in trouble at all."

Kie was being no fun at all! She trailed off, glancing towards their brother, and Rasiel found herself looking at him too. She knew it was late and she knew that they should be sleeping… but she was so energetic that she couldn’t wait til morning! Luckily Lais was definitely interested. Rasiel lifted her head proudly, giving her sister a warm smile all the same. “It will be fun! But Kie does look tired…” The little girl shifted on her paws. Though she wanted to practice, right now she supposed it might not be the best idea. Especially since she wasn’t sure if Kieryn would get back up if she fell asleep out here and then they’d definitely get in trouble. Grinning at Lais she made a promise though. “I can show you in the morning though! Right now we should probably head back to bed… sorry to drag you guys out. I was just excited.” She moved closer to her sister, nuzzling her shoulder first before turning and doing the same with her brother. Then she started for the den, little tail wiggling the whole while.

She had to admit she was still sleepy and she stifled a yawn as she glanced between her two siblings. She felt bad for being a buzzkill but she wanted to go back to their den to sleep. It was late and more than anything she was worried they were going to get caught out here and then get yelled at. The idea of getting scolded for running off alone made her ears flatten. She didn't even really want to be out here anyways. She wanted to be at home curled up next to her siblings. At least it would be warmer. Lais seemed excited by Rasiel's idea though so she just smiled softly. She was the odd man out here. She didn't want to go back by herself so if she had to she'd stay and watch until they both wanted to go back. She glanced briefly at Ras as she seemed to notice that she was tired. A happy tail wag was given when Rasiel mentioned going back to bed. She couldn't figure out where all her energy came from so late at night, but she almost wished she had it. Almost. Sorry for being a buzzkill guys. She said guiltily as she followed Rasiel back to the den.

When it was mentioned that Kie looked tired his eyes looked to her, scanning over her face. His excitement subsided as he realized that the statement was true. She did look really tired and didn't seem like she would be able to stay awake. The girl could fall asleep out here and neither of them may be able to get her back to the den, she would get to cold out here even if all three of them slept here together. Not to mention it was rather dangerous for them to do in the first place. He was bummed, but he was more concerned with getting Kie back to the den before she fell asleep. There was plenty of time tomorrow for them to go through all of this.
