Random Hunting Event!

Woah, what's that? A rogue bull elk has been spotted in the Avian Estuary, split up from its herd! Upon further inspection, you can tell that it is injured, and will only take three wolves to take down!

Everyone participating in this hunt will earn an extra 10 skill points toward hunting, on top of the points they will earn for completing the kill!

Be polite and don't post here unless you can complete the thread in a timely manner!

An injured animal. It made his mouth water as his tiny rump wiggled within the grass cover he had chosen. Ritsy knew he wouldn't be able to take it down on his own, but a soft giggle escaped his throat at the thought of tearing into the poor escaped beast. Though by the wolf's appearance, who would want to hunt with him. It was a chance to make new friends wasn't it! After they were dead and gone, he could eat their eyes! Of course he was going to claim the eyes on this creature - that was a given.

The insane male would wait patiently. If he charged blindly he would get himself hurt. Eck, the thought of it sent shivers down his matted fur and sticking out spine. Naturally from the odd way he walked, and ran. Puffing up his fluffy little white tail, he would convince himself to wait patiently for other wolves. Oh goody goody!

The sound of a bleating prey animal caused Esarosa to pause, lifting her head high as her ears swiveled with interest. It had been some time since she'd eaten anything substantial. Small prey was good filler, and she'd rather that than no prey at all. But sometimes it was nice to just stuff your face without having to hunt continuously in between bites of mouse steaks, frog legs and fish chops. So the sound of a large animal in distress really grabbed her attention. Surely she wouldn't be the only one to be attracted by the sound - she just hoped that whoever else showed up would be willing to cooperate, and share.

Licking her lips, she tracked down the location of the bull elk, noticing quickly that it was injured. Perfect. Although normally a dangerous target, this wouldn't be so daunting. Then she noticed that there was already one wolf on the scene; a strange looking, hunched, stump-tailed wolf with an odd black and white coat and red eyes. He looked eager to hunt, almost more than she was. Curious, she approached the wolf, waving her tail as she tried to keep low, out of the elk's sight. "Wanna take this thing down?" she asked, her toes gripping the earth, tail wagging enthusiastically, "We just need someone else... let's see if anyone else shows up. My name's Esarosa, by the way." Unaware of the other wolf's disposition, she simply waited to see what he would say, and hoping one more wolf would show up.

Imperium like all good things had been torn apart from the inside out.  None could stand against them, no kingdom in the land had ever been so powerful or feared but fate proved herself master of all.  Dagmær slipped through the estuary, ears high and alert.  She’d grown from the lost and wandering pup into a yearling…. a yearling on her own.  Plague was the enemy of her expectations and it was this invisible force that had brought the kingdom of Imperium crashing down and leaving her without a home.  Somewhere along the line her imagination began to still and her fantasies as Dagger, heroine on a mission to rescue her father, began to wane.  She began to doubt that he really needed rescuing….

Dagmær stopped in her hunting as she caught the musky scent of a bull elk.  For a moment she was about to head in the opposite direction, not interested in getting gored until she caught the faint scent of blood.  It was wounded?  There was no way she could take a bull elk by herself but she was getting awfully hungry.  Surely it wouldn’t hurt to check it out?

Creeping through the underbrush she spied two other wolves, strangers, seemed to have noticed the elk as well.  The female introduced herself as Esarosa and at the mention of someone else, Dagmær stepped forward.  “I’d love to help for a cut of the meat.  I’m Dagmær.”

This was exciting, he could only think that through and through. The males stomach rumbling, drool dripping from his maw as he wiggled with the two wolves that appeared. What pretty eyes they had, either way they were here to eat. A soft chuckled left the twisted males jaw. "Ritsy, ritsy will help hunt!" He exclaimed. The injured scent was exciting. Yet he would let one of the other wolves take the lead. The almost uncontainable male would sit licking his maw. Unable to sit still. "Instruct ritsy." He would say. Just this once tell him what he was supposed to do to share this meal.

Esarosa was surprised that moments after her suggestion to the male that they ought to wait for one more wolf to appear, another appeared as though summoned. It was obvious, of course, that this third hunting companion had also scented the injured elk, and noticed its vulnerable presence. It was great timing for the wolves. She nodded her head as Dagmaer introduced herself. "Since we're here to hunt together, you can call me Esa, just to make it easy," she said - she wasn't fully sure if the other lady had heard her introducing herself to the male - who now called himself Ritsy - but names didn't matter too much here. So long as they cooperated and got a meal out of it, that was all that mattered.

Esa looked to Risty now as he wiggled around and chuckled in a way that seemed out of place - something seemed off about the odd wolf, but she wouldn't question it now. With almost child-like enthusiasm and wording, the male would commit himself to hunt with the two females, and demand to be instructed. She hadn't noticed it before, but something almost seemed wrong with the brute. The ebony-coated woman stared at him for a moment, perhaps a moment too long, before she tried to blink away her confusion and amusement, nodding to the brute as she tried not to draw attention to her observation of his oddities. "Okay, Ritsy," she said to the brute, "We'll tell you what to do." She then turned to the seemingly more level-headed wolf, Dagmaer.

"Any suggestions?" she asked, although she already knew what she had in mind, "I think we should just rush it and overwhelm the beast. He's pretty badly injured; looks like the wound's been festering long enough he can't even keep up with his herd... I doubt we'll even have to chase him. We just need to make him bleed, weaken him and finish him off. I can go for its left flank and thigh, if you go for the right -" She said to Dagmaer, before she'd turn to face Ritsy again, giving him some open options as she continued speaking. "Risty, if you can go for its front end and just bite as many times as you can, draw as much blood as you can, that'll keep it confused and distracted, less likely to be able to strike us. Just watch out for those hooves... it may be weak with injury, but it can still put up a deadly fight."

Normally she would suggest something more strategic, to set a trap, chase and ambush the animal, but it seemed that this bull elk was an easy target. They could probably take it down with a relatively easy fight, and she didn't expect much struggle from it. But she didn't know these wolves, so she would have to get their opinion to make sure they set off with a plan in mind. It was a strange thing for Esa to hunt seriously with complete strangers, but she would be glad for the experience when this was done.

ooc: so sorry for the wait!

Well, he was certainly an odd one. Grinning Dagmær tilted her head to the side as she gazed at the eager man. Instruct him though? Eh… she wasn’t much of a teacher and she looked to the other girl, Esarosa. “Ok, Ritsy and Esa, you can call me Dag for short.” Dagmær’s gaze shifted toward the bull elk as she listened to Esarosa’s plan. She nodded slowly but hesitated. “I don’t know Esa, even with an injury an adult male elk could still do serious damage. Maybe we should try to get him running anyway to be safe?" She felt much better about attack the end without the horns and her style had always been decidedly patient. Rushing in… well, this wasn’t like her. Though she had to admit that Esarosa made some fair points and she trusted the older woman had more experience. “Ok, let’s give it a shot but if it starts to get to dangerous we should back off and try another angle. Ritsy, stick to quick, short bites. If you stick in one place for to long you’ll get gored for sure.”

Dagmare crouched down amogst the reeds and nodded to Ritsy. “Ok, you go in first and get it good and distracted so Esa and I can get at its haunches without it turning on us.” She was glad the male was the bait.

The stunted male would nod his head rapidly to the two women. Oh he didn't like the sound of getting hurt, even though blood was nice. An excellent job for the twisted male. He waited for Dag to stop speaking and prepared himself. Eagerly crawling towards the injured buck, observing the horns on its head. He kind of wanted to keep one. As those thoughts focused out he jumped out and ran towards the front end of the animal. Giggling a bit as like a tiny dog started to nip at its front legs. The animal growing irritated as Ritsy drew some blood. With each bite though, he would make sure to hop a fair distance back so the buck could not kick him. Watching those large antlers as to not get any part of him hurt. The rest was up to the girls. They could easily over power it, with him distracting the animal as well maybe that helped.

Esarosa turned to the other woman as the fae said they could call her Dag. She nodded to Dag, liking that they could each be addressed quickly and easily with shortened names. She watched the woman's expression as she was explaining her plan, and then quieted to listen to Dag's response. Her ears flicked, and she had to roll her eyes slightly. Hadn't she just finished saying that it could still put up a deadly fight? That was why she'd designated the strange little male to take on the more dangerous task of attacking and distracting the animal at the front, so they could take a chance from behind. "Hunting's always risky," she retorted with a great shrug as she eyed the woman. This was a risk she was willing to take, as the meal would last for some time. She was exhausted from eating only small prey.

The ebony-coated woman remained silent as Dag offered a few more suggestions for their safety, and gave Ritsy some tips before they set off. Sounded good to her, she was ready to give it a chance. It was an odd thing to hunt with complete strangers, but it would be worth their while in the end. Unless someone ended up gored or stomped. But they'd just have to see what happened.

She watched as the male crept forward and made his move. Emerald eyes would shift to Dag - she wasn't going to chicken out, was she? "Ready?" she asked, tail waving in the air as she crouched down to prepare herself to leap, "We've gotta help Ritsy now, so give it your all. Let's go!" Her eyes turned to where Ritsy was now, darting in and out around the front of the elk, nipping at its legs and keeping it thoroughly distracted and agitated. This would be the perfect opportunity to begin their assault. Legs bending and muscles coiled, Esa sprung forward and sprinted toward the elk's left flank, her ears lying flat and tail straight out behind her. She could already feel herself salivating at the thought of a warm, filling meal.

When she was right next to the elk, her forepaws left the ground as her wide open jaws aimed for a chunk of flesh right where its thigh connected to its flank. Her teeth closed on a mouthful of flesh, while her hind legs steadied her, and she quickly and with great force thrashed her head back and forth, causing a severe rip in the animal's hide. Then she'd let go and spring back, getting out of range of any of its hooves, and its antlers. Startled, the elk had swung its head toward her, so she would snarl and snap her teeth, threatening it from a safe distance. This would leave an opening for Ritsy to continue his attack, and give Dagmaer an opportunity to strike from the other side. It wouldn't be long now before they overwhelmed it and caused it to bleed out.

Dagmær’s muscles rippled as she tensed, her body coiling like a spring. The male was…. definitely right in the head but that suited her just fine for the task he’d been assigned. Giggling he ran forward snapping at the bull. Esa was chattering about helping Ritsy but Dagmær missed most of the words. She knew her task and was focused in on it. As Esarosa moved Dagmær switched tactics. A sudden leap might catch the bull elk’s attention so instead she started slinking along to the bull’s right side. While Dag was fairly friendly and charitable she looked out for number one and would rather the bull busy himself with the other two…. well for a moment. Once she was near the flank she struck, her body letting loose it’s energy in a powerful leap, fangs sinking in the flank as the elk bellowed, its right back leg flailing trying to strike at her. She let go, backing up and then striking again. She dove in low, right after the elk kicked out and before it could recoil the limb her fangs latched onto the leg just below the back of the knee, fangs seeking into the pre-existing wound. It bleated and stumbled but they hadn’t brought it down yet. Hunting was often a game of endurance and she was going to out last this elk. All they needed was a few good strikes to get it on the ground. No one had been assigned the kill shot but with Ritsy being closer to the head she hoped he’d go for it. If not she or Esa could pick up the slack depending on which way the beast fell.

The injured bull elk was struggling frantically now as each wolf took their turn wounding it further, weakening it little by little. With each painful bite, it whipped its head to and fro, unable to decide upon which wolf to fend off first. Esarosa knew it would be of no use to the animal now - they would only have to take advantage of its confusion now to get it on the ground. But, as she distracted the elk, unbelievably, it looked like Ritsy had taken a step back, resigning from his attack when there was no time to waste. She wanted to yell at him, to scold him for minimizing their chances, but she couldn't waste her breath. Instead, she had work to do when Dag made her attack on the other side of the elk's body, causing the beast to kick and turn, bleating toward the dark gray female.

Realizing that she would have to get closer to the elk's head if they were to make a killing blow, she aimed a bite first at the back of its elbow, just above the bony joint. Her lower fangs dug through soft skin on the inner part of the elbow, piercing into the limb's main artery, her upper fangs slicing through muscle. She clamped down hard and shook her head, her whole body giving her momentum and force to do so, tearing through delicate tissues and causing blood to pulse from the open wound. When the elk swung its head toward her, she let go and bounced backward, out of reach of its antlers. She could tell it was slowing down now, panic and blood loss causing it move inefficiently. Then Dag would attack the back of its leg; with wounds in opposite ends of its body, it was losing balance quickly.

It stumbled, offering Esa the chance to go for its face as it tried to right itself, as though it might try to flee. She rushed in front of it, taking a mighty leap toward its face and snapping her jaws shut on the sensitive skin at the front of its snout, right between its nostrils. With all four paws back on the ground, she pulled and thrashed, bringing the bull's head as close to the ground as possible. This was their chance - it was fatigued, losing balance and had little ability left to fight.

OOC: Skipping Ritsy as agreed upon. Luns, go ahead and make the kill shot, I think we have enough posts/rounds for it to meet requirements, right? If not, it's open for us to keep going another round.

Dag locked her jaws tightly on her hold, unwilling to relinquish it as she felt the muscle fibers tearing under her fangs as the elk struggled to break free. From her vantage point at the back of the knee she was so far safe from the kicking but as the hoof sailed right past her head she could only hope that the others were having better luck on their ends. She felt the elk shift, teetering off balance as its upper body lurched suddenly forward. Taking a risky Dagmær release the elk's leg and quickly shuffled back in time to miss being clipped by the hoof yet again. Ritsy seemed to be spectating and she cursed slightly under her breath realizing it was going to be up to the two women to take the elk down.

Dagmær's powerful legs pushed her forward as she rounded to the front of the elk, keen emerald eyes taking in the twist of the neck as she lunged forward, fangs digging into the elk's throat, just below the jawline. Her upper limbs latched around the beasts neck as she thrashed her head, biting and ripping like a mad woman. She sought to deliver as much damage as possible, the blood spilling into her jaws and smearing along her cheeks as she thrashed. She could feel the fight waning out of the beast as it finally collapsed on it's belly. Dag held her grip looking to Esarosa for confirmation that it was alright to let go. She didn't want to be faked out by their dinner.

Jaws maintaining their iron grip, legs bending to pull hard against the elk's resistance, Esarosa kept the weakened animal occupied. To her relief, her hunting partner was ready to make the finishing blow, and came rushing up to the front of the bull elk. Her movements were swift and strong, and Esa watched from the corner of her eye as Dag lunged, closing her jaws like a trap around the animal's windpipe. The airflow was severed, and as the woman thrashed, blood sprayed, and it wasn't long before the elk slumped to the ground. The scene had become grisly with their final move completed. Esarosa let go of her hold and moved beside Dag, eyeing the animal carefully. It had remained still for several moments now, and it looked to her that they'd finally ended it - this thing wouldn't be getting back up with its trachea severed and the last of its blood now staining the ground.

"Nice shot," she complimented the other woman, her tail wagging, "We did it!" Although Ritsy had helped them in the beginning, she wouldn't glance at the peculiar little man. She was thoroughly ticked that he'd abandoned their hunting party at the most crucial moment, putting a lot of strain on herself and Dag. But at least now they'd be able to eat - nothing else really mattered. No one had been hurt, so there was nothing left to do but gorge themselves and split up the rest to take their separate ways.

Dag continued to cling to the elk's neck, breath spilling from her nostrils and she breathed heavily from the exertion of the hunt. Slowly, she'd release her hold and drop the head of the dead animal. Licking the blood from her maw she grinned at Esarosa. "Thanks! Not bad yourself!" Dagmær purposely moved herself between Ritsy and the elk. She and Esarosa did most of the work so he could eat last as far as she was concerned. Digging in Dagmær set to work ripping open the hide hungrily. It had been awhile since she'd had a good hearty meal and she intended to gorge herself on the elk. As much as she could eat.
