She would move to a spot not too far from everyone else, but not close enough to where they'd collide with one another during their practice matches. Her gaze roamed around, checking to see if anyone needed help before she started her own practice spar with Steel. When she saw that all was clear for now, she would turn around and shake out her fur, loosening her muscles as her tail wagged slightly. While she didn't know Steel too well, she knew him to be one of the quieter members of the pack. She had no clue what his experience was when it came to fighting either, so perhaps she could gauge his ability today and cut out having to test him later on. He was still a Native, after all. And perhaps it would soon be time for him to climb the ranks like Esarosa had. The chief settled into a defensive stance, amber eyes watchful as she waited for her opponent. He was more than welcome to take the first move, so she squared herself off just in case.
Truth be told, Steel wasn't much of a fighter. He'd always aspired to be, like his father - but so much of his life had been spent on his own, simply surviving, that he'd never gotten to learn. As soon as he heard he'd be fighting Avalon, he felt his heart sink slightly. While she wasn't exactly threatening at first glance, she was the leader of Ivalice and he had no doubt she knew how to fight far better than he did. He couldn't back down now, though.. especially not with Esarosa here watching him. He and Esarosa had been discussing starting a family, and he'd have to learn to protect them. His brow furrowed slightly as they moved away from the group, gaze fixed on Avalon's curiously and with a fair bit of hesitation.
Though she seemed ready to let him go first, it didn't seem right - and he wouldn't admit he didn't know where to start. He'd always been fine at playing things by ear, and he hoped he might find this came easier to him than he anticipated. "Ladies first," he'd offer, his voice quiet as he too squared his posture, balancing his weight and eyeing her, seeing if she might make the first move.
