Just a Hop, Skip, and a Step
It had been a while since he had been out of Abaven lands, the small canine usually hanging around the rapids to fish. Now though, he ventured beyond the borders to explore lands he had yet to step foot on, and since he was getting older, he felt the urge to seek out others like him. His internal clock was ticking, and he desperately sough out the one thing that was missing from his life. Love. Love, and a family to call his own. Granted, he saw Bass as a brother, but it wasn't enough. He sighed, head low and bushy tail streaming behind him as he trekked towards a place he'd never been to before.
Upon arriving, he slowed down as he stood near the edge of unknown lands. Crimson eyes gazed about, nostrils flaring as he scented something...odd. Somewhere ahead, he heard cries of distress from an animal before it became muffled, and then...silent. "Weird..." He took a few steps forward, and before he knew it, his front paws suddenly became stuck. Glancing down, he wiggled his toes, only to find that the ground beneath him was slowly eating his feet. "What the hell?" He tried to tug his paws out of it, but had no success in doing so. Perplexed by what was going on, he leaned back and put his weight on his haunches, hind legs pushing against the ground until he finally got his front legs free. He fell back on his rump then as he stared at the ground. What on earth had just happened? Glancing around, he spotted a small branch and in a few moments, had it in his jaws. He stared ahead, eyes looking over the ground as he figured out where he should throw the branch. Finally, cocking his head to the side, he swung back around and sent it flying until it landed with a dull thud a couple yards away. Before he knew it, it began to slowly sink until it was half way out of the ground. It was then he figured that he oughta be careful where he stepped now... |
