Pleasantly he romped. The rays of the sun were locked in a constant battle with the cold of winter, and inadvertently keeping the creature at a comfortable enough temperature. He was satisfied with the weather, and the new area he?d discovered was plenty of fun. The brittle grass was tall and tickled his body as he leaped up into the air and bounded along. In some areas, it even went high above his head. He felt very sneaky in this tallest of grass, occasionally pausing his frolicking to crouch and scuttle about. ?Dunununun,? he hissed to himself as he shuffled forward, head between hunched shoulders. ?Hiyah!? The little beast pounced forward, pushing through a denser section of grass. His jaws shot out, and he snapped at more sprigs. They didn?t taste very good.

At the thought of taste, the gremlin?s stomach growled with displeasure, and he frowned. Standing still, he sighed quietly. He wished he could catch things! Why, he was so hungry, thinking about it brought about the most agonizingly vivid sensations. He could almost smell the blood and flesh of a nice dead thing? Nostrils twitched, and saliva oozed from between slightly parted lips to drip down his chin. Wait! Pale eyes flashed wide open. That smell just had to be real. He sucked in a ragged breath, pulling back a strand of saliva. He glanced around frantically, standing on his tiptoes and jumping up to peek above the grass. He could not see enough to pinpoint where the smell was coming from, but following the scent he would surely be able to. With no further hesitation, Caesar sprung forward through the grass.

Moments later he burst through another curtain of grass into a mildly large clearing. There, nestled inside the nothing like a pearl in an oyster, lay the stinking corpse of a gazelle. It was peppered with large crows that littered the air with their ugly, gravelly calls as they feasted on what scant amount of meat remained. Caesar?s jaws fell open, floods of saliva pouring free now. Most of the good parts had probably been taken, and he could see that only mostly bone was left, but this was the first food he?d seen in? days? Weeks? A while. His bony chest rose and fell quickly, and in a flash he bolted forward. ?Mine! Mine!? he screamed at the crows, and they screamed back, albeit while fleeing. Victory. The tiny wolf dropped his head and began to strip what skin and flesh remained on the bones. There was that, and a small portion of a haunch left. Good enough. More than what he typically got from the usual carrion.

No you don't! A flash of grey darted through the tall grasses, here, there. Loccian was hunting, and she had her target locked on. Fortunately her small body helped, light on her paws and able to squeeze between clusters of tall grass. She was able to stay behind the rabbit, close enough to where she could keep track of it but far away enough to where she couldn't make that final jump to take out the animal.

Off she was, tail streaming behind her, muscles working. The distance between her and the rabbit was growing smaller, the anticipation killing her. Tongue slipped out of her jaws and hung out the side, ears back. Suddenly it was yanked in and her neck stretched out, jaws opening wide then snapping shut. So close. The rabbit darted to the side just before her jaws made contact with it's rear.

She had a split second to make a decision, stop the chase or follow it. Forepaws touched the ground to the right of her body, body arching, back legs readjusting their position before propelling her forward, right after the rabbit. The chase would continue.

Unfortunately for her, Loccian had not been paying attention to her surroundings. She did not notice some of the grass here had been pressed down by the body of another, her mind focused only on catching this animal. And before she knew it, the shewolf lunged through a thin wall of tall grass, paws catching on a body and throwing her forward and into the ground.

She hit the ground hard, pain shooting through her chest where it had made contact with the frozen earth. She slid a foot or two into a clump of grass, her body twisting till she finally came to a stop on her side, a groan of pain slipping from her jaws as she lay there breathing heavily.

Tattered bits of bloody flesh slid down his throat and coated his lips and teeth with a thin veil of red. He ate messily, saliva and food alike stringing along his muzzle and face as he buried it in the corpse. Small squeaks and hums of satisfaction escaped his maw as he fed. It had been so long, his stomach probably had cobwebs and dust in it! The beast giggled, and continued to indulge in the small amount of food he?d found. What a lucky day!

He was just getting to the haunch when the approaching pounding of another caused him to snap his head up. Ears stood up erect, the frayed edges of the stumpy left drooping pathetically. Pale blue eyes widened slightly, and his bloodied jaws clamped shut as he held his breath. Something was coming, and getting very close. A rabbit shot past, and he gasped a little. Instinct told him to run, but another voice hissed about the food. He couldn?t just leave it. He wouldn?t. He remained still for a second, paralyzed while reasons battled. In a flash the approaching whatever it was burst through the grasses and promptly collided with his back. The stranger, quickly identified as wolf, went flying in one direction. Caesar was shoved with a yelp into his meal, falling roughly on his right side into the hollowed and gory belly of the ungulate.

It didn?t really hurt. If anything, he enjoyed the bump, and the bath in the animal remains. But he screamed anyways. ?Oooooooooooooowwwwwwwww!? it was an exaggerated and drawn out howl, his high voice trembling as he pointed his head skyward, still on the ground. Indignantly, he hopped up off of the carcass, his side painted with globs of stringy meat and blood, though he didn?t seem to notice much. The imp spun to cast a pointed stare at the culprit. ?Flying lady hurt Caesar! Pushed him in his food! She owes him new food!? he barked, fluffing his scraggly fur. He was never one to disregard an opportunity. Maybe she?d think she really owed him something, and he could eat more.
