Zuriel hadn't been one to jump to conclusions when she was younger. Sure, she had plenty to worry about for most of her life, but she had tried her best to either not worry too much or keep herself distracted so she wouldn't worry about it. However, the disappearance of Kane and sudden scarcity of Miach certainly gave her cause for concern. They were practically yearlings now and she was sure that venturing off was normal at their age, but what if Elias had come across them? What if some wild animal they weren't prepared to face found them? Her tail flicked uneasily as she walked across the valley. She had to keep herself from thinking that way. They were fine. She had to believe that. To keep herself distracted she thought back to the meeting Faite had held and remembered that she had been given one of her nieces to mentor. She hadn't gotten much of a chance to really get to know her nieces and nephews so she was excited to have this chance to work with Jaidah. She hoped Jaidah had some kind of interest in healing, but if she didn't then perhaps they could work on hunting. She just hoped Jaidah didn't expect her to teach her about fighting. She kept a sharp eye out for the girl while she pondered what they might work on. "Talk" "You" Think

Jaidah moved through the grasses of the emerald valley with the ease of a ship in the sea, her creamy tan mask bobbing with every proud step as the girl made her way toward the borders in a bid to star her escape. She had been bored at home, unable to bridge the gap between her and other pack wolves. She was nearly a full year old, and the time for hiding in the den was done. Mother made it perfectly clear that she was to do something with her life, and the young wolf decided that she wanted to be a healer. Daelos had shown her some really cool plants, and she was enraptured with the possibilities. Faite had told the young girl that Zuriel was to be training her, and from what Jaidah understood, Zuriel was a healer in the pack! She was excited, and dashed off rather than away, hoping to find her supposed mentor and get on with learning about medicine.

As she walked she happened to catch a young girl's scent on the breeze. When she glanced over in the direction that it came from she happened to see Jaidah's distinctive red and tan hued face bobbing along the top of the tall grass. She grinned a little and chuckled at the sight. At least she had found her! Zuriel turned to make her way over to her niece, giving her a quick bark to catch her attention. She was grateful that she hadn't had to really go searching for the girl. This gave them much more time to work on Jaidah's training. "Jaidah! I'm glad I found you," she said in greeting with a warm smile. She couldn't believe how big Faite's children were getting. Of course her own children were nearly as big too. That wasn't something she had wrapped her head around, or wanted to, just yet. Children just grew oh so fast. "I was hoping we could start your training today as long as you don't have bigger plans in store." She was glad they were fairly close to her den so that they could take a look at the herbs she had stored. That would be much easier than trying to find fresh herbs to learn from. Fresh herbs were certainly more fragrant than their dried versions, but Jaidah could still get the sense of their scent. "Talk" "You" Think

Jaidah's head snapped in the direction of a familiar bark, and she stopped in her tracks before she gave away what she had been doing. Zuriel came to meet her and Jaidah gave her aunt a warm smile and a happy tail wave. "Aunt Zuriel! I wasn't planning on doing anything special. I would love to learn with you!" Her excitement showed in a happy little jump and twirl, then she promptly settled. Looking over her shoulder, Jaidah wondered what was planned for them today, and she looked back at her aunt. "Um, are we going to hunt plants? Or are we gonna make a potion!?" Her innocent grin was wide as she rose up on her hind legs, aiming to wrap her legs around her aunt's neck before she went down on all fours again. She was simply too excited!

Zuriel couldn't have asked for a more eager student. She had hoped for Jaidah to at the very least listen politely to whatever she decided to teach. What she hadn't been expecting was for her niece to throw her forelegs around her neck in excitement at the idea of hunting for some herbs or making a potion. Zuriel laughed gently while her tail wagged. She had been a bit nervous about having her first mentee, but Jaidah's enthusiasm made her much more at ease. "Well, lets do a bit of both why don't we?" she said with a smile. "Luckily for us, a lot of different herbs grow right in this valley!" She hummed thoughtfully and looked around the valley for a moment. "I know we can find yarrow and marigold around here and those two herbs can be used well together so lets start with that." She gave her niece a smile before motioning with her head for Jaidah to follow her before she started off across the valley at a comfortable walk. "Have you seen yarrow or marigold before?" "Talk" "You" Think

Jaidah waved her tail as her aunt said they would be doing both activities, and she felt her body wiggle with unbridled excitement. She would finally be taking her first steps toward becoming a healer! Zuriel continued speaking, finding a very attentive Jaidah listening with her white lined ears pricked forward and curiosity all over her cream masked face. The fire and ice of her gaze burned bright, and she piped up as her aunt explained that yarrow and marigold mixed well together. That was all she said! She just left it at that and didn't expand on the explanation of how or what they did together that made them so special. "What do they do when alone? What do they do when you mix them together? What do they look like? Do they smell funny, cause Daelos showed me some plants that smelled funny a while back..." Excitement made her ask a million questions, and jabber on as though she couldn't breathe without saying something.

Trotting alongside her aunt, Jaidah watched to see if Zuriel found anything resembling the plants she had named off. "I have never seen either of those things! What do they look like?" The older woman's question made her finally focus on their task and not on her thoughts or curiosities about what they would be finding today.

Zuriel couldn't help but laugh when her niece started rambling off questions at a million miles an hour. "Hang on, hang on! One thing at a time!" She was going to have her hands full with this one, that was for sure! All the same, she was excited to teach Jaidah and show her all kinds of things about herbs and healing. She was interested to hear that Daelos had shown her cousin a few herbs though. Zuriel had taught her daughter a few things here and there, but it warmed her heart to hear her own daughter seemed to be following in her footsteps. "Yarrow looks like small bundles of tiny white flowers. Marigold has bigger, bright orange, yellow, and red flowers. Both of them should be pretty easy to spot! We'll just have to work extra hard to find them since it's getting colder and they are not growing as wildly." While they were walking and searching the valley for the flowers in question, Zuriel started her lesson on each of the herbs. "Yarrow is great for slowing down bleeding if someone has a smaller cut or bite or even a nose bleed. Sometimes you can give them a little to eat to help with fevers too. Then marigold petals can be placed over burns or cuts to help protect them from infection. In a pinch if you have anyone with a sore throat they can chew on some marigold as well." There, that answered what each of those herbs did! Now they just needed to find them. "Talk" "You" Think

Jaidah absorbed every word her aunt said with all the fervor of a dry sponge in water, her gaze of fire and ice on Zuriel as she listened intently and stored the information away. Marigold helped with burns, cuts and sore throats. Petals over burns or cuts helped keep infection away, and when chewed, it could help with a sore throat. But, how? And how did yarrow help with bleeding? More questions sprouted in a matter of seconds, but Jaidah made sure she focused on one at a time. Her aunt had been amused, but she really didn't want to overwhelm the woman and make her cranky. "How does yarrow help with bleeding and fevers?" She asked, keeping her eyes peeled for small bundles of white or large orange or red blooms. There was motion out of the corner of her yellow eye and her russet and cream face turned to look.

There, waving as if it beckoned her, was a big bunch of marigolds. They weren't the best looking, but there were pods beneath the petals. "Oh! Do they have fluff? I watched a dandelion fluff land one time, and then, a little while later...it turned into...another dandelion! Can you believe that!? Do these do the same thing as the fluff?" She had seen the yellow petals of a dandelion slowly turn into the white fluff she loved to play with. Maybe the marigold did the same thing, and they could get better flowers in the garden back home?
