Here I Stand
A more recent and considerably more blithe change had been where pack borders, specifically for other packs were and weren’t. He knew there had at one point been a pack on the Maw and in the snow covered valley he was currently trudging through but it seemed they had suddenly disappeared, meaning the lands cupping the Rustling Thicket were free to explore. Without Bass to threaten him with his punishment and his mother too busy mourning the disappearance of her two daughters to care he had come to the conclusion that he was free to explore anywhere he pleased as long as he returned to his mother’s den by sunset.

Carrying a hare in her jaws, Aldegund sauntered along with little interest casting over her features and in honesty looked like she was about to die from lack of mental stimulation. She knew she needed to be actively doing things. However, creativity wasn't exactly her strong suite and unless she was learning, she was bored. With her head sunken low her eyes just lazed about while looking for a place to lay down. Walking a little ways more, a heavy sigh escaped her nostrils before she just flopped to the ground and pinned her quarry between her paws. What was she doing? Seriously, it seems like life was dragging on already and it didn't sit well with the woman.
Taking a bite into the carcass, Gundy let her mind wonder and eventually her bodily hunger was forgotten. Going on a journey should have been more thrilling. It should of brought new insight to a mind that was all but craving for knowledge. Yet, here she was in silence and having lack of motivation to even stomach sustenance. Staring into the distance, it looked as if no one was home and even to herself, it might have been true. That is until an inkling of movement snapped her out of her head. What was that? Perking her ears forward she remained silent and still, letting it register a little longer before rising. Leaving her meal, she sniffed about and certainly did not recognize the scent ghosting the ground. Following in pursuit, Gundy finally came to see a small grey form in the distance.
"Pardon, where is your Mutter?" Her voice called out in an calm bought, rich with foreign tones. A pup so young shouldn't be alone. If they were that is. Keeping her body lax, the last thing she intended was to look intimidating and chasing a pup wasn't on the agenda either.
He wheeled around and looked at her wide-eyed. He hadn’t anticipated being found by anyone let alone a complete stranger. “M-My wha-?” He asked, his voice shrill and cautious. He turned the strangers words over in his head a few times and finally it all clicked. “S-She’s close by…” He said, almost as if he was warning her. “She’ll do something about it if you hurt me!” He declared, his soft fur standing on end in a feeble attempt to make himself look bigger and less vulnerable. In truth he doubted if his mother really would do anything if something happened to him. All she seemed to care about were Tempest and Derecho. He clenched his jaws as the thought passed through his mind, a look as if he had just eated something horribly bitter passing briefly over his features. Bass wouldn’t save him if something bad happened to him, maybe Pyre would but everyone else in Abaven seemed too busy with their own issues to care about him. |
